What You Have To Do To Achieve A Higher Rank
Hi Folks
My blog for the weekend is about things you can do to improve your sites rank in the search engines. Pretty straight forward stuff, but it seems from the questions I have been asked recently members are getting depressed that their site has a poor rank.
Lets start with:
Why You Should Include A Call To Action (CTA)
Google loves to see people click a button on your website after reading or scanning one of your pages. If they don't do this then Google assumes your site didn't have much to offer the visitor.
You should add a CTA to all your posts. You may think this is common sense, but in my experience browsing members sites, its not. I think you will find that without a CTA your site posts will get a lot fewer click-throughs or leads.
What About Your Sites' Bounce Rate?
As an online marketer you should already be aware that Google does not like a high bounce rate.
What does a high bounce rate tell you? Its obvious folks. People didn’t find what they were looking for. In other words, that your website wasn't relevant to the keyword search term they used.
Your call to actions can help guide people to browse a lot of pages on your website. Internal links will also help lower your bounce rate.
The Time Visitors Spend On Your Posts
Fixing your bounce rate wont stop people leaving your site, so what can you do?
According to a recent survey people scan webpages, they don’t actually read them word for word. So what can you do about it to get them to stay on your site longer?
First of all (and I see this all too often) Avoid clutter. Don’t be afraid of the white space and add as many photos or videos as you can to break down the text. Sub Titles and Sub Headers, and bullet points are also good.
Time and again when a member asks me to browse their 'New' site I see these huge blocks of text. If people see a huge block of text, they will most likely move on. But if they are interested in the topic, they will at least scan the text.
Linking
A member asked me only yesterday how many links are too many. I have to say that from my own experience, The more links you have on your website, the higher your ranking.
Why I hear you ask?
It’s quite obvious: when people cite you, it means that you are doing a good job and therefore content and links are very important for ranking.
What Can You Do: I’ve said it in many of the blogs I have published within WA. Great content is king. If you create great content then links will come. Not overnight of course, but they will.

Yes indeed its ok getting lots of people to your site but you have to make sure they stick around.
You can of course do this with great content and navigation to lead them around your site.
