What's Your Definition Of YOU?

Hi Folks

I based the content of this blog on a book I browsed the other day ('The You Factor' by Leslie Strong). Its also part of the title of my blog.

After reading the book it struck me that a lot of what it contained could be related to Internet marketing and most of all to each individual WA member. How Come I hear you ask?

Think about it - What is the true factor that makes the difference in the different internet marketing strategies?

If you want a home based business or a work at home job, chances are you have done a lot of searching on the internet. Let's face it, the internet is the place to be if you want to make money, and that's why you are all here at Wealthy Affiliate.

You have, most likely, read about many different opportunities. You have followed the advice and suggestions of some of the web gurus. You have looked at this internet marketing strategy and that affiliate marketing opportunity. Maybe during your searches you have gotten confused. You might even have been scammed a couple of times.

You have wondered to yourself, "is this legitimate or just another scam?" Can I really make money on the internet? The answer to your questions is yes and no. On the internet, just as in the physical world, there is a bit of everything. There are many choices and many different people looking for choices.

There are many types of people surfing the net in search of opportunities. They are always looking for that perfect opportunity. For example, there are the "window shoppers". They look at every new opportunity, visit lots of websites, read lots of reviews, they have them all bookmarked. With some websites they have even gone through the order process. Just to see how it works you understand. This person hopes and wants but between you and I, they will never take that final step.

There is also the info junkie. This person wants and hopes and, in fact, takes action. The info junkie buys into everything hoping it will make them rich. More times than not, this person suffers from paralysis of analysis. They are reading, assessing, double checking, and wants to know everything to the last detail before actually doing the business. They want to know everything first from the books and DVD's piled around doing nothing but collecting dust.

Next, there is the "jack of all trades". This person jumps at every opportunity to make money. Their inbox is full of emails from all the new and different ways to make money online. They have so many bookmarks and favourites they forget which is which. The grass is always greener on the other strategy. These people know a little bit about everything when it comes to internet marketing. They go to forums and make posts as an "Expert". Who are they trying to kid? This person might be able to succeed but they have no time to get good at anything because they are spending all their time trying to manage excess.

I was watching a Bugs Bunny/Elmer Fudd cartoon last night with my 4 year old grandson. Of course Elmer was hunting that damn wabbit lol. It was a very windy day as the two were running through the forest. A truck coming along a road in the forest hit a bump. The rear doors flew open and many hats blew out the back and into the trees. From time to time one of the many hats would land on the head of Elmer and he would then take on the personality of the hat, such as a sailor, a soldier, a policeman etc. You get my point - he was wearing a lot of hats.

My point in all this is that the strategies of many successful entrepreneurs are judged negatively because someone can't make money with it. I say money can be made with most all of them. The entrepreneurs share experiences and knowledge that worked for them. What they can't foresee when writing is the wildcard or the YOU - Factor. There is no way for them to plug you into their formula.

If you are a window shopper who researches but never takes action you will never succeed. If you are an info junkie who buys the books and keeps reading and reading but never takes action, you will never succeed. If you are a jack of all trades and never commit to one strategy or niche you will have problems succeeding. YOU are the main factor that determines if a strategy will make you money or not.

I'm not a sporty person but many of you will have heard of Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods, arguably the best in their fields (at one time). They loved what they did and strove to be the best.

Don't forget - Someone taught them how to play they way they did. They took it from there. Many people learn to do the same things but some take it and excel at it. The point is that with Michael Jordan it didn't matter which basketball he used or which court he was playing on, he succeeded. Tiger Woods was the best in golf, no matter what clubs he was using or which course he was on. What made them the best is what was inside them. The YOU-Factor.

In conclusion;

You are what makes the difference with an internet marketing strategy.

You just must decide which one is for you.

You must decide which strategy excites you.

You must make a decision, commit to it, and work it with persistent and consistent desire.

If you have what it takes you can make anything work. You take your dream; mix it with a burning desire, and then top it off with action and you are bound to succeed.

There you have it folks. As I said the blog was born from reading that book but it is so relevant to anyone who has signed up to wealthy affiliate because they want to be their own boss. They have a burning desire to have their own business. I hope my blog has fanned the flames of that desire.

Anyone with anything to add, please do so via a comment below.

Enjoy your day, and be successful.

Robert Allan

If I were to ask anyone of your family or friends what is it about you that defines YOU what would their reply be?

Hi Phil and thank you for stopping by.
I have to agree with you coz at the end of the day where does the buck stop?
Have a good one.
Robert

Excellent post Robert. Many of us here should take this advice to heart!

Blessings,
Debby

Hello Debby and thank you for reading my blog and for your kind words.
Hopefully new members will eventually land on this blog and take the advice onboard.
If not then I'm afraid they could end up as one of the stereotypes I mention.
Have an excellent Wednesday.
Robert

Thanks Robert. You have a good one too!

Yes Robert. You are your own master!

Yes Mike you are the master of your own destiny.
Just a shame that so many people take a lifetime to realize that.
Thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to read my blog and for your comment.
have a great Wednesday.

Great post Robert.
This reminds me of a book I read a number of years ago now called Personality Plus by Florence Littauer.
Perhaps you have read it already but essentially it breaks personality types into 4 broad categories each having portions of the other but with one predominant trait.
At the time I read the book I had a business in which I dealt with Joe Public on a daily basis.
Before reading the book I would often be at a loss as to why the behavior of some people seemed either rude, indifferent or otherwise and quite frankly I was "over" dealing with the public. After reading the book I had an understanding of why some people were the way they were and it changed the way I interacted with them in a very positive and proactive way.
Identifying personality traits in both your customers and yourself can be very rewarding.
Thanks for your post - it was a great read.

Steve

No probs Steve and thank you for taking the time to stop by and read the blog and of course for your input.
They do say it takes all kinds and as we say here in the UK - 'there's nowt queer as folk'.

I had a spell as first point of contact for the public as well and I have to say I quite enjoyed it.
Gives you a whole new outlook on how to deal with all sorts of people.
Enjoy your day.
Robert

Very realistic post. I've read where only 5% of people who attend "how to" workshops succeed. It's not because the information isn't valid. It because the person didn't follow up or take action on the information. A person is most likely to succeed when they have the same personality and traits as the speaker. Good topic..thanks for sharing. Debbie

Hello Debbie and thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment.
I went to a few workshops in my time Debbie and to be honest with you I could have run them better myself.
One of the main reasons I became a trainer in fact.
I knew I could do it better.
However I take your point because a lot of people just wont get up of the backside and do something about it.
There are or have been plenty of those who signed up to WA as well.
They don't stay very long and I believe its simply because they want the money but don't want to work for it.
Was it ever so.
Have a great Wednesday Debbie.
Robert

Yes of course...there are some teachers that are better than others. I, too, feel like I want to be the one leading the way. It's not so easy though but I'm not giving up. Debbie

Never give up Debbie and I will look forward to all those blogs you're going to publish within WA.
I'm sure they will make for some interesting reading.
Now I'm off out for a few hours into this glorious sunny day we're having here in Edinburgh.
Robert

A fantastic blog post Robert. I love the way you define each stereotypical REAL character: window shopper, info junkie, jack of all trades and specifically point out the flaws preventing their success. We all know these folks, and if we are honest we know them in ourselves.

The simplified moral I get from this article is this:
Carefully chose ONE thing to master, and TAKE ACTION.

Hello Kaju.
I'm not surprised you hit the nail on the head - It does indeed mean focus on one thing. Learn all you can about it and only then you take action.
I also agree that there's a little bit of all the stereotypes in us. Its up to us as individuals to recognize those traits and overcome them.
Success can be yours but you really do have to put in the hard work.
Thank you for reading my blog and for your input.
Have a glorious day.
Robert

I gather many aspiring internet marketers are having trouble picking out that "one thing" to invest all or most of their time - the one thing they would enjoy most and which has the most money-making potential. That is why they are perpetual info gathers. .

In in a sea of never-ending internet options, this can be the most difficult obstacle to overcome.

It always helps if you're passionate about something, something like you are Kaju.
If its something you can talk about for hours and never get bored with it you are onto a winner.
It just takes time and to take that passion online to make money from it takes a lot of blood sweat and tears.
Internet Marketing is not for the faint-hearted.
Robert

One needs to be realistic however, there are some passions one may want to pursue that realistically are not very marketable. To make significant money, there needs to be enough demand for the niche product or service your passion is choosing to pursue.

However, you can look at this another way: and say to yourself out of 7.5 billion people globally, and 300+ million nationally, even if there is a small fraction of 1% sample group, that is a big enough sample to target your product or service to, if you know how to reach these potential customers.

But more realistically, such businesses are limited to targeting a local market, so the challenge is marketing to this much smaller (if even existent) sub-group of potential customers.

Unfortunately if careful research yields the demand is too small for one's niche, one may need to make the hard realistic assessment that the opportunity of making a good income is slim to nil - no matter how passionate they may be about it..And thus pursue a different niche.

Hard to let go though Kaju and I bet you would say - Some Day.

So true, so true. My stubbornness tells me to never give up the dream.

You never know - Dreams Can Become A Reality

Indeed Robert. Keep the dream alive!

I'm an eternal optimist. It's important to believe in yourself. Thank you for the narrative. Helps to recharge my batteries.

Hi Pablo. Batteries recharged and ready to go.
That's what I like to hear.
Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment.
have a good one.
Robert

This should make a lot of people refine their strategies Robert.

Hello again Ian and thank you for reading my blog and for your comment.
I can at least hope that when people read this blog they will go away being more positive about who they are and what they hope to achieve.
Have a good one.
Robert

Great post Robert very inspiring and so true I`ve known all of those people at some point in my life

Hello Richard and thank you for dropping by and reading my blog.
I think we have all known people like the ones mentioned in the blog.
Some will succeed and some will fall by the wayside.
make sure you are not one of the latter.
Enjoy your day.
