Can Selling On Auctions Sites Be A Viable Home Business Venture?

Hi Folks

I published a blog last week on selling on eBay as a Trade Assistant or a Power Seller. Since then I have had a few members asking me to be more exact. Could I supply more details on how to go about it? What does selling on auctions actually entail? This blog should contain enough extra info. Read On...

Your major problem would be to find a reliable source of products. It must be truly reliable The goods you're going to sell must always be available to you and therefore to your customers. If you are not a reliable seller, the customers are likely to find you out sooner or later and you will fail in your business.

There are one or two other things you will need once you get started. You could stock products privately or ask manufacturers to stock them and use only as required. How can this factor affect your business? Its obvious - sooner or later the price of the products will be affected if you have to store stock yourself.

Of course, storing the products at home would be easier but as your business grows imagine how jammed your home would become. Also if you had to pay rent somewhere else you have to make the price of the items you sell higher. It might not affect the goods that you sell in great volume (small stuff), but if we are talking about custom items? Each item will cost considerably higher, and you're sales will be affected in whatever niche you have chosen.

Another way is to find the reliable sources of goods that will stock the products themselves and you take what you need as your customers make orders. In this case the working scheme is something like this. You find a source - place the products on your auction site - your clients buy something and pay for it - you receive the money. You then order the products from your source - the source either delivers the products to the customer directly or you have to do it. The difference between what you get from your client and what you pay to the source is your profit!

I must add that although my blogs mention eBay as your auction site there are many more such as those within the graphic above. It might pay you to choose one that will suit you rather than go for eBay where there will surely be more competition.

There you go folks and I hope this has answered any questions you might have regarding acquiring, storing and actually selling on auction sites such as eBay.

Anybody with any other ideas please feel free to leave them via a comment below.

Enjoy your day.

Hi Robert, is this method called 'Dropshipping'. I have tried this in a former life. One major problem is that sometimes the delivery times where very long. This can lead to customer dissatisfaction, which is a problem.

You don't have to do the dropshipping yourself.
Let the supplier handle that.
Of course this would eat into your profits a wee bit but saves a lot of hassle.
Thanks for your comment and taking the time to read the blog.
Enjoy your Wednesday.

Hello Keith and thank you for reading my blog.
Hope you took away a tip or two that will help you get started.
Have a great weekend.

Great advice Robert. I know a couple of people who make money via Ebay and other auction sites, so I know it can be done. You are right though, you do have to be careful about how you go about getting it all started.

Thanks for giving us sound advice on these issues.

Blessings,
Debby

Hello Dear Lady and thank you for your kind words.
Hope you are keeping well and of course doing well with your website(s).
Remember if and when you get stuck to drop me a line or two via a PM.
I know it can be done Debby simply because I got my two daughters started a couple of years ago. Now they no longer have to come to dear old dad for a handout lol.
I'm sure it would work for anyone who has a mind to as well.
Perhaps its something worth more investigation for yourself.
Take care and enjoy your Wednesday.
Robert
