Are You A Recruiter Or Do You Want To Make Money Online

Hi Folks

In my opinion MLMs (Direct Sales) are the worst online enterprise you can enter into if your goal is to make a lot of money from the internet. Why? Because its based on a pyramid and those at the top make the real money and the rest the crumbs. Read On...

Multilevel Marketing, or MLM, is a business model that is a combination of direct marketing and franchising. The concept behind the model is simple:

A company has a product that needs to be sold. Typical business operations will sell the product directly to consumers, or they will look for people who will sell it for them. MLM requires salespersons not only to sell the said product, but also to hire people who will buy and sell the product, who will also, in turn, hire people who will purchase and sell the product for them, and the cycle goes on.

MLM businesses sometimes have a problem regarding corporate image because it is often hard to tell a legal MLM enterprise from the scams, although there are lots of legitimate MLM businesses operating in many countries. Neophyte firms may call their operations "home-based business franchising," or "affiliate marketing."

The bad thing about MLM businesses is that more emphasis is placed on the recruiting of sellers than the selling of the actual product. In the present economy, there is simply no need to sell consumers the overpriced products that MLM firms usually offer, and they lure other people in to securing memberships with the promise that succeeding memberships will make them unimaginable amounts of cash.

So it is important to differentiate legitimate MLM businesses from the fraudulent ones. Here are some giveaways:

1. Use of celebrities to attract clients

A lot of MLM ventures attempt to associate their businesses with celebrities to give them credibility and appeal to buyers. It is important to remember that these celebrities did not earn their money from MLM businesses, and therefore clients will not benefit from it either.

2. Shelling out cash for the program

Some MLM businesses will oblige their prospects into buying into the venture as they were hired to sell the merchandise. It is a sure indication that it is a scam. If they are legitimate, there is no need for sellers to buy their own products, since it is supposed to do well on its own.

3. Purchase of sales materials

This is the scam where an MLM business will require their sellers into paying for the materials to be used by the firm for advertising. This a big no-no since companies should be the ones paying for their advertising, not the employees that they are hiring.

4. Seminars for training

Another sure sign that a MLM business is a scam is when they offer training seminars that actually provides little training, but dwell more on building the enthusiasm of the prospective recruits for the venture. MLM companies will require them to pay the expensive training fees, with the promise that their "investment" will pay off in tenfold. Always remember that no legitimate firm will make people pay for their own training.

5. Rate of people dropping out of the business

The truth is, the drop out rate for these MLM programs is huge. But of course, the promoters will not divulge this fact to prospective recruits. About ninety-eight percent of them pull out of the program, an enormous amount compared to those who actually continue on with the venture. Promoters will tell people that those minority are the hard-working, patient ones who have become immensely successful and are currently earning thousands of dollars per month. But the real winners of the game are those who have the sense to drop out.

6. Brainwashing

Promoters will go on and on telling recruits to have faith in the program, and believe that they too can earn a lot of cash like their predecessors. These scams will often go great lengths to promote the products, to the point of even destroying the image of their competitors in a very unethical manner.

People who want to earn money and are planning to enter a business should always exercise great caution towards those who only want to scam money of them. Always remember that a legitimate enterprise will make sellers earn their living and not profit from them.

Its also very important to remember that its the affiliates that get paid by the company and never, ever the other way round. Therefore if you are being asked to pay then I strongly suggest you don't.

That's all folks.

Of course anyone else who has an opinion on MLMs can do so via a comment below.

Onwards and upwards and be successful.

Robert Allan

Thank you Robert, nice article. I've been there and so glad I made the choice to switch to WA.

Hi Sandra and thank you for reading my blog.
Hope you are having some success here at WA.
Enjoy your weekend when it comes.
Robert

Hi Robert,
Sue and I have been involved with several MLMs in the past. We probably made about 10% of what we had to invest.

If a person is a good salesperson they might do well, but for the average person, I suggest trying Wealthy Affiliate.

Thanks for sharing.

Bill & Sue

Hello Bill and Sue and thank you for your visit.
You're lucky you got 10% coz the biggest majority don't even make that.
Have a great weekend here at WA and be successful.
Robert

Thank you for sharing the comparison between MLM and WA. You described exactly how MLM works. I know about that because I have some friends on MLM, with an investment that never get back. Thank you, it was very useful :)

Maria, nice to see you reading my blogs on a regular basis.
Hope you took my advice onboard and wont be tempted to try MLM yourself.
Much better if you stick to Affiliate markketing the honest and straight forward way.
Onwards and Upwards.
Robert

This was very informative.

I was actually at one point thinking of trying this out and have been on the fence since but after reading this, I know it's not something I want to try anymore.

I'd much rather stick to affiliate marketing.

Thank you!!!

Hi Teresa and thank you for reading and for your input.
Yes best to stay away from MLM and especially when there are so many scams around and you don't have enough experience to spot them.
Hope your Thursday is going well for you.
Enjoy.
Robert

Hi Robert, I agree with your assessment, thanks for the advice, Best Alan

Hello Alan and thank you for stopping by.
A few good tips in the blog that members should take onboard to avoid being scammed.
Have a great Thursday.
Robert

MLM marketing is not easy because you have to establish a downline. That being said, I belonged to one for about 10 years, and actually made quite a bit of money at it. However, it was not easy. I do believe there are more MLM scams out there than bona fide solid companies. There are a few good ones, and I was lucky enough to find one of those. I do like the fact that we don't have to lay out large amounts of cash for WA. For my MLM, I did have to buy products to demonstrate, but they were such excellent items that I didn't mind owning them. All in all, it is nice to be in a business where we just promote products but do not have to buy them.

Hi Fran
Its great that you landed on a good one but in my experience they are few and far between.
As you say and I agree there are way more scam MLMs than good ones.
I was involved with Affiliate Marketing as well and I did ok with it but now I just tutor/mentor and that is ok for me.
You can bet your last dollar I steer the people who get in touch with me well away from those scams.
Thank you for reading and for your input.
Hope your Thursday is going well.
Robert

You're right on the money with everything about MLM.

Although it offers legit services, I allowed a friend's parents to suck me into the Utility Warehouse Network Marketing Biz opp. I struggled like hell for a long time and spent countless money on materials, events and books on top of fuel for carting people to opportunity evenings.

I was out of pocket. MLM/Network Marketing was the biggest mistake of my life.

Affiliate Marketing wins hands down! There's no competition :)

Hello Neil and thank you for your input.
I am expecting to get more negative comments than positive ones regarding MLMs and hope the newer members of WA read them on this blog.
Now after all your years online I hope you are doing well within WA.
Onwards and Upwards.
Robert

You're welcome Robert!

Just don't post this stuff on platforms like IBO Toolbox lol.

Have suffered multiple failures online but I'm slowly getting somewhere with WA this time :)

Although have been in the game for a while, marketing is forever evolving. So what I knew back then no longer works.

Thanks anyway, and hope the same for you too :)

I came across a company not long ago which sounded good, until I spoke with someone. They said they were a networking group; they didn't sell any of the products just recruited. The products are gathering dust on top of peoples wardrobes. As you say, not sustainable.

Hi Dave and thank you for dropping by.
I'm afraid your are a nothing but a recruiter with the scam MLMs.
Its the newbies that contact me after they have joined the scams I feel sorry for coz they just didn't know enough to spot them.
Hope after they have read my blog they will have a better understand and know what to look out for to avoid them like the plague.
Enjoy your day.
Robert

i have learned the hard way about MLM scams, and nobody can scam me now.

Hello Sajjana and thank you for reading my blog and for your comment.
I'm afraid there are a lot of people poorer today because they got sucked into those scams.

Fortunately for me I only lots a few dollars before I realized just what I was supposed to to to get rich quick.

That was a few years ago now but lessons learned back then keep me well away from them now.
Have a great Thursday.
Robert

A very good analysis between legitimate operations and scamming. MLM is a legitimate business model it’s just the snakes that highjack the model and turn it into a scam.

Thank you,

Doug

I agree Doug but I have had so many questions asked of me about MLM I just had to publish a blog on it with my own personal opinion.
This opinion is based on personal experience and I am not out to trash the legitimate businesses.
Thank you for taking the time to read and for your input.
Have a good one.
Robert

It's the same concept,..albeit with a different story wrapped around it ,.as you've quite aptley explained.
You either affiliate with another,..or reverse the situation ?

Gold star for me see!!!!

Hello David, thank you for your visit and input.
The whole idea of internet marketing in all its forms is to earn money.
You may have to invest some money to make it but not the continual investment the scam MLMs ask you for.

Thank you for the gold star, much appreciated.
Have a great Friday.
Robert
