The Travel Business As A Home Business Career

Hi Folks

This blog is primarily for those who want to promote travel in all its various forms as their Niche. Or perhaps they want to know how to become a Referral Agent or Booking & Selling Agent. (I will give a link to further info for each of them)

There is a lot of money to be made in the travel business. Though it may seem simple to run a home based travel business, you do need to know what kind of home based travel business you want to run.

Travel Biz - How To Make It Work For You

Basically, there are two types of home based travel agents – referral agents and booking and selling agents. Referral agents just run a home based travel business that points consumers in the direction of the travel agency. The actual agency closes the sale and books the travel. If you have a little travel industry experience, running a home based travel business that focuses on referrals is the one to go for.

However, if you are interested in starting a home based travel business that gets into the details, then you may be more interested in becoming a booking and selling agent.

You can run a home based travel business that plans a number of types of trips or you can develop a more specific niche like cruises, or other forms of travel holiday.

Running this type of home based travel business will require more contact with customers to figure out what types of things that fits the customers criteria. This type of home based travel business does earn more commissions.

What are the benefits of having a home based travel business? There is, of course, the flexible schedule and being your own boss. There's also the added bonus like earning you vacations each year at a big discount or even entirely free.

If you are going to start a home based travel business the first thing you must do is get in touch with a host agency. Its important to make sure that you separate the host agency from your home based travel business. You need to remember that although your home based travel business may work with the host agency, you are not a customer. Neither are you an employee of the agency. Keep it as a business relationship.

Starting a home based travel business can be a real money-spinner but first decide on what type of home based travel business you want, based upon how involved you want to be. Get in touch with a host business, and take it from there.

Ok folks I'm sure there are quite a few WA members who are already doing this type of promotion as their way to earn an income from home so please leave any pertinent info via a comment below.

Have a great week and be successful.

Travelrr has an interesting business model where you are earning from Amazon affiliate click-thru's and PPC(assuming AdSense). I imagine getting the targeted travel traffic will not be cheap at all if going the paid route.

I'd be a little more gung-ho if their website didn't have a bunch of articles dated 2013. Navigating to get to the real details of the program is a little non-intuitive and lacks some key details. I'm seriously considering this as a new project to add. Thanks for the info.

Hi Brad and thank you for your input.
Sorry if the Travelrrr sites isn't too good.
I pointed people to it because it is a good site to get more info if you're thinking about this Niche as a way to earn money.
Worth investigating further though if you are serious about it.
Have a great Friday and thank you for reading my blog.

A very interesting post, Robert but in my experience, this is a pretty cut-throat business although an enjoyable one.

Hi Carol and thank you for stopping by.
Isn't all business cut-throat Carol?
It is in my experience anyway.
If its not for you then you stick to what you have just now.
There are quite a few members who are involved with this method of working from home though so there must be a living to be made from it.
Hope you're still resting your eyes.
Have a great Wednesday.
Robert

I want to do this! I just don't know where to start. I'm most interested in cruises. I'm becoming a Certified Copywriter and then a Facebook Market Analyst.

Hello Janina and thank you for your comment.
I have given two links which you should follow for more info.
You can also do your own research simply by typing in travel agent/cruises or go here -

Great idea.

Hello Robert and thank you for reading my blog.
Is this something you could be interested in as a home business?
Follow the links and find out.
Hope you have a great Tuesday.

A great niche and pursuit. You can also do travel photography and writing to reinforce it. It's a great career!

Yes indeed Mike.
There are all sorts of holidays people take now that almost anywhere in the world is so accessible now.
And of course you can write about it and sell your articles to Travel companies to put in their promotion material and in holiday magazines.
Have a good one Mike.

Hi Robert,
I have question about travel agencies?

First of all I used to work for a couple travel agencies many years ago. We did airline ticketing for company businesses and walk in customers.

But since the advent of the computer, nearly all of that type of travel agency work has gone away.. Is there really much traffic that a "travel agency" would get?

I am sure bus trips and cruises would still be a form of travel that an agency might do. Is there enough of them still in business to affiliate with?

Bill

Of course there are opportunities out there Bill.
With so many people searching online it makes sense to get in on the ground floor before it eventually gets saturated.
Not for many years to come I might add.
Perhaps you could use your previous experience to become a Referral Agent.
Did you not follow the link to Travelrrr?
There's sure to be info there that you can relate to.
Thank you for your input Bill and have a great Tuesday.

Great post today, Robert! I am in the travel niche, but RV travel and now I'm thinking about how I can alter this to fit my business. You've got me thinking for sure. :)

Hello Sue and hope you are well and going great guns with your biz.
Yes I recall you were doing something with RV's and why not branch out into other areas of travel.
With your experience it could be your next move anyway and I just got you thinking more about it with my blog.
Have a great Tuesday and thank you for your comment.
Robert

Hi Robert...yes, you definitely got me thinking when I read your blog. The wheels are turning for a new branch or two off my main niche. Thank you very much for your post!
