When A 'Freebie' Isn't Free Anymore
Hi Folks
I'm willing to wager that the highest percentage of WA members joined because of the 'Free' trial.
Why can I say this? Because every day I see new members on Live Chat who say they can't afford to go premium. Some have went premium but can't afford to continue for a variety of reasons. The trial has ended and the Freebie isn't free anymore.
They are stuck between a rock and a hard place. They have created a website. They have built it out. Some of them could even be making money from it but not enough to continue paying the monthly premium fee. What can they do. They go on Live Chat and ask for help.
There are many people searching the internet now-a-days looking for programs that are FREE to join. As a website owner I can see this by looking at the keywords that people are using as search terms. Many people are searching for no fee home business, free to start work at home and no charge home based business and many more. They see Ads like the ones within this blog. They catch our eye, we read more and sign up for the 'Freebie'.
There are many reasons why this is so. I think the main reason is that just like myself when I first started there are so many people who signed up to programs that were unsuccessful and actually turned out to be Scams.
There are indeed many Scams on the web these days and the number will continue to rise. However we have to take some of the blame ourselves. Many times we think we can spend a little money on a program and the big money will come rolling in. When it doesn't we quit, call the program a scam, and swear we will never try again.
Another reason is that many people are working hard at their J.O.B. and are barely paying the bills. They feel they either cannot afford to take the chance or really do not have the money to spend. Either way, I think many website owners do not put these FREE to join programs on our sites. This is mainly because they know they will not make as much money.
Personally I think we need to highlight many of these programs more. We have to warn people about them and perhaps point them in the direction of WA. After all we are all here to make money and a great many of us want referrals, do we not?
Just like Wealthy Affiliate, more often than not when the online companies offer an entry level and their subscribers start to become successful they will eventually upgrade into the full program. Others will upgrade when its not seen to be a scam and actually works.
I also think that when we as website owners show real support to our referrals that they remain within the program a long time. That means more money in the long run for us.
At any rate here are a few tips on trying out free to join programs. They are as follows:
1. Either do your home work, or find a website that highlights key FREE to Join programs for you.
2. It's not mandatory, but when possible, setup a separate email address for your work at home business.
3. Remember you get what you pay for so if it's free you are going to have to have to work even harder, but it can be done.
4. Once you feel that the program is legit and / or you are making some profits upgrade to the complete program as it will help you make money faster.
Number 4 is usually my advice to all new members. Hold off upgrading to premium until you are 100% sure this is what you want to do. If it is then stay as a free member until you have the necessary funds to upgrade. There is plenty of help as a free member although there are of course limitations on the functions you can access.
I personally started with WA way back in 2013 and it was almost a year later before I actually upgraded. It can be done. I'm proof, and I'm still here.

When I upgraded to Premium I thought it will be faster to make money so I can earn for the monthly premium payment. That's how I think as a newbie. So when I have no money to sustain my premium membership I stopped then I came back after more than two years.
In my calculation, maybe within three months I'd be starting to earn but this is already my 6th month and i have not seen yet a dollar. So I want to quit, but seeing my site and its content which I have really worked on it, I said to myself, you've done a great job the dollar is being prepared for you. So I am not quitting.
Yes, I agree that new members who are not ready with the monthly premium fees, they better stay as a Free Starter Member until they are decided to go for it with everything.

Yes its easy to become disappointed that things are not moving as fast as you would like.
Yes its disappointing you are not making money from your hard work.
But as you say in your comment - you have a good website.
You worked hard to get where you are today.
I can say with 100% honesty and conviction based on my own experience that if you keep it up you WILL succeed.

I must be a rarity, I joined premium on Day 1 with Wealthy Affiliate. After seeing so many other programs and webinars with the obligatory "up sell" at the end, after reading the WA "prospectus" this training applied to me and was a breath of fresh air.
And I certainly do not regret any of it.

many join and I'm afraid many leave and the main reason is lack of funds.
If they would only stick it out a while longer.
Give it a real chance then they would not need to keep going after 'Freebies'.

Robert, you know the most effective programs aren't free. Premium members in any program are attended to better. You get what you pay for.
I agree, there's nothing really for free coz somewhere down the line there will be a reckoning.
It doesn't always have to be money though it could still cost you dear in other areas of your life.
I'm still uptown so better get out of this internet cafe and make sure nobody has half-inched my bike lol.

Hi Robert,
Thanks for a great post. In my case I signed up for the long haul within the first few weeks and got into the training but then came to doing a web site and finding a niche. Not much sense in building a web site if you don't know what to do it on. It's take awhile to find what I want to work on which was last week but unfortunately we have had a close family member pass away so things have been put on hold. Hopefully I will start on the web site next week. Just as well I'm in for the long haul.

I liked your article because I feel I was pulled into a scam. I didn't realize it until I discovered WA. Unfortunately, I paid too much money before I realized it but did not spend thousands like I could have done. I actually googled the company for reviews and found a member of WA reviewing the company and that was my deciding factor that it was pretty much a scam which I thought by that time, too. I really feel, after trying WA and becoming premium, WA is the real deal and so easy to learn and follow.

Thank you Robert for a very informative article. I was in a similar position and am so pleased I came across WA in my search. I am still learning and haven't as yet got a website up and running .. it is such a new adventure to me so I am going slowly at it.

Don't start if you can't join. Get a feel for the program and don't rush into it if you feel your not ready due to funds, pressure etc.,
By joining up as a Premium membership and not having the funds results for an absolute fail, not only on their part as a joiner but also for the one that built the site and promoted the Wealthy Affiliate opportunity.
One step at a time, day by day until the funds are available. NO RUSH!
