This is Not Fair

Today I saw that one of my posts was out of the top 100.It``s an ok post.As my site continues to grow, some old posts get ignored by me and this is one of them and the only (if at all) traffic that gets there is through internal links or....

So I wanted to check what my competiors are doing better as I want to improve this particular post.To my surprise the post in position 5 has about 200 words in total (maybe 300 words if I stretch it)

Saying do this,do this,do this in simple words, he was in a hurry when he wrote the post and he`s done.Explained like a 4 year old would and that`s it.

With his few lines of words he has 3 adsense ads,and 9 other links. How does such post make it to the top ten? am I missnig something here?

I never let what people do with their sites worry me,but this made me feel cheated.

Nothing is perfect, not even google.

Totally agreed

It's frustrating. I have seen that before to, and asked about it on WA. What Jovo said below is pretty much the response I got when I asked this same question.

I was very frustrated because my 3000 word article was nowhere to be found. I was being outranked by what seemed like a computer generated paragraph and pinterest.

I have started sharing that article on Pinterest and other social media networks. It now has over 300 shares and over 30 comments.

But it is still not on the first 3 pages of google.

What I have found interesting is that when I search for that particular keyword (via incognito search) my website homepage (blogroll) comes up in position 6 Page 1.

I am happy with that!

I`m sorry to hear that, it`s the same with the post I`m referring to, there is NOTHING on that particular post to make me want to visit the site again in the future is I`m a site visitor and yet it rank so high.
I guess I just have to accept things the way they are and try to promote my post and let it climb up the ranks.

Yes, unfortunately there isn't much you can do. I revamped that article twice now and did another fetch as google both times.

Focus on promoting it via social media if you aren't getting anywhere with google.

I have really started focusing on Pinterest. It is a lot of work figuring that beast out (and I am still working on it) but I am now getting close to 2000 visitors a month to my site from Pinterest alone.

Just grin and bear it and move on!

Not always easy when you know well something is not making sense.

I know mate BUT there is always the difference in mentality and the difference in Nationality!!!!

Paul

There could be a few different reasons why the other post ranked better. Maybe it's been online longer, has more than one keyword or has been edited and republished? Having said that, I understand your frustration. I think I'd feel a little cheated too! Alanna

Maybe you`re right, but that post could have been written by a 5 year old and they could have done a better job.But as you said, maybe the site is 5 years old.

I blogged about computer generated texts in posts ranked on position 1, where the texts without any relation with the picture of the item. The texts randomly generated. So I learned that there are no rules.

Speaking of rules, this is an oldie but a goldie: https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2010/03/googles-seo-report-card.html

The time Google did a SEO audit on themselves and found they didn't follow the rules of SEO they advise everyone else to apply.

And it didn't make any difference :)

Thanks Jovo, usually it does not bother me, a post outrank mine,I`m not worried, but a post looking like it`s computer generated, ca 300 words, more links than content ranking top 5.That was/still is bitter for me.

Hi Roamy, over time, as you build authority on the internet, you'll find more and more of your posts move up the ranks. Go to http://moz.com and compare the DA (domain authority) of your site and the site which had the post in position 5. My guess is you are doing all the right things and simply need more time to build authority.

My posts rank very well, the ones that do not rank, I can accept that, was just totally unhappy with that single post being ranked so high for no reason at all(in my opinion)

No, you are not cheated. This is how Google works. I follow the training and as a result I have many posts ranked in top 10 or top 5, BUT this doesn't mean you will follow the instructions and get all your posts ranked the same way. It's simply impossible. There are some rules that you follow to get your post ranked but there is no guarantee that it will. Sometimes Google ranks sites that don't deserve it but this is how Google works. We can't do anything.

Agree totally. And im ok with some of my posts not ranking well, I`m just not ok with a (more computer generated like post)ranking in the top 5.
I feel better now, but was really sad when I first saw that post, but now having talked about it, the disappointment is less.

Welcome to the SEO casino.

Well said, I just have to do my part and hope for the best.

Simple works on the internet. Short, simple sentences. Clear simple explanations. Lots of visuals. A post that helps.

There was nothing quality or quantity about that particular post, that`s why it bothered me so much.
