Not All Niches Are Good For Making Money Online

Like many here, I have tried different niches, for whatever reason,it comes a time I feel a Niche is nolonger interesting or whatever then try something different.

This is nolonger the case but happened quite alot when I first got started.

Along the way, I have come to know that there are some niches that are so competitive it`s hard to make money.I`m talking from experience,I have a skin care site, 141 posts,(used to be over 200 but removed some posts) the site is 1 year and 2 months. In this time I have really struggled to make money from the site, I ask for comments, promote on social media but sales are slow,ok most of the items i promote are over $200.

Along the way, I got tired of giving my cosmetics site my all and not getting the results I wanted so one evening I created a sports site. The site was done quick, has less than 20 posts, I do not even promote it and the last post there is months old.Now the sports site makes (quantity wise)10 times more sales than the cosmetics site.

As a woman I spend quite alot on skin care and cosmetics so I thought a skin care site will be great, well, quite the opposite,I have found out the hard way selling skin care products online is really competitive.

Will not give up the site, I invested enough energy on it but I have come to know that not all niches like my skin care website makes as much money, my little site makes much more and takes me zero hours to maintain in any way.

Why am I writing this? today I saw someone ask the same question, is skin care a good niche? I answered from my own experience but wanted to share with everyone else.If you realize that nomatter how much you think people spend on a niche and you struggle to make enough sales, think if there is anything you can do, is there a chance of trying something else. What it cost is the work and buying a domain name.

Happy new year

Every niche should have the potential to be good.

Im saying this from experience, I have a skin care site which I really struggle to monetize. At the same time, I have a sporting site with less than 20 posts, the last post is.........months ago(maybe 6 months) but this site that I do not even promote makes shales on its own almost. The skin care site that I keep promoting, adding a post weekly makes very few sales so yes to me not all niches are good no matter what we think.

Hi Roamy,
I think this is so true that what seems to be a good niche to use may not be.

Then how to find the right one? I don't have a great answer, I suppose you could use Jaxxy to test the waters of a niche, but there is no guarantee that will work.

Building a website and lots of work on posts is frustrating to find out that wasn't the best one.

As I see it the public is fickle, one day it is this niche is hot and then it is not. Research is about all you can do.

Thanks for sharing.

Bill

I don`t think there is no easy Niche, you have to put work in any of them and maybe in time make a decision.
But as said in my post, as a women who spend a lot of money on cosmetics and skincare, I thought/believed this is a good niche, not only good but something I love, maybe it is, but also very competitive.

Thank you so much for sharing your learning from experience. I think it does make a big difference with the niche chosen, and despite best effort the high competition will make it more challenging. Thanks for sharing your observations.

As a woman who like skin care and I spend quite enough on skin care products, I could not have thought the niche so hard but it really is.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this, it will help many, this can happen in many different niches too.

True, I just did not expect skincare to be so competitive, but it really is especially if I look at my other site with so few posts making more sales.

I'm curious, what kinds of posts did you put on your skincare site? Were they more informative posts or were there a lot of reviews. I'm kind of going through something similar with my first website and while it is a niche I generally enjoy (not as much as in my younger days though), I've earned very little from it. I haven't done a ton of reviews though and consistency hasn't always been there like it should so I'm sure those things are a factor, but I do have 200+ posts on it.

I can say it`s more info than reviews having said that,I have about 50 reviews(not counted so can`t be 100% sure.
But as said,I think it has more to do with the niche, than review or info posts. My thinking always is that maybe if I were promoting nonelectric goods. and why do I say this? most countries have a different electric system(plug etc) I know because I always have to figure out what kind of socket they use in a country if I`m traveling abroad. But then, maybe it`s just me worrying too much because the site is not working as I want it to.

Skin care is indeed a difficult vertical, so I've seen people be most successful by having a much tighter niche - specific skin or hair issues that few other sites address. It's all about solving a need, more than focusing on highly searched keywords. Do you have a very specific focus for your skin care site?

My site concentrates on microdermabrasion, very tough to market.I`m still figuring out how to change the niche(without abandoning the site) maybe change it to acne skin care or something but not yet sure what

What kind of products are you recommending, and from what merchants?

I recommend microdermabrasion machines, sometimes I wonder if things could have been easier if I were promoting nonelectric items but having said that, I think skin care and cosmetics is over competitive. Different merchants really
