Online journey is never an easy one,you solve this problem and the next one comes.Today my computer just refuse to load,it has been a problematic laptop since day one.

I had a HP in the past and was happy with it,so when my acer started having issues, I got another HP.Somehow the batteries went down in less than 3 months and I can not use it for 10 minutes without connecting to electricity.

This week, it was behaving funny, today when I turned it on, it just refuse to load so I can not even check what the problem is, not that Iam able to fix big problems but little problems should be fixable after hours of trying.

Now I have had to dig out my 7 year old acer to write this.thankfully I did not throw it away, it was just sluggish and I did not want to spend time and maybe money to make it work the way I want it to.

Now I have to use this slow old computer till I can have my HP fixed, really not happy.

Hope you guys are having a lovely weekend, my sunday as you can imagine has just been ruined.

Have you tried reseating the hard drive and the memory sticks? These are two things that don't take very long and you don't have to take the laptop apart.

Every HP computer I've ever had, with the exception of the first one - an early 1990s desktop, have all crapped out on me. On two of them, they caused serious data loss and weeks of time trying to recover data! I had well-documented these times here on blogs, which are now removed.

HP has gone down in quality and is, at best, a mediocre line of computer products. I try to stay with Dell these days. Fortunately my desktop, which was a HP last year (or early this year) began showing signs it was going out and I immediately took action by backing up everything from the hard drive. It got worse to the point I could not go beyond a certain area on the hard drive. It became unusable but not before I successfully backed up AND ran comparison checks with software designed for this job. It was the hard drive that was at fault and the computer became unusable. I junked the computer. In fact, every HP computer (not including that first one) were faulty hard drives.

Your mission for that laptop now, is to get it up, hopefully after reseating the hard drive and memory, but then, backup any data on the hard drive that you don't wish to lose, to an external drive.

The next time you purchase a computer, based on my own experience with HP computers, avoid them. They are "throw-away" computers. They are less expensive to purchase but you pay in the long run - best get a more expensive one (after research) and in the long run, save money!

Thanks Daniel, it is true the older HPs were brilliant, but over the years, the quality has gone down so much. The present one is not yet 2 years old but the issues it has been giving me make it like a 15-year-old laptop.
Unfortunately, I can not do anything now, took it to the repair shop early today. He promised to have it ready one way or the other by 3rd January, if it were not for my online work, I could have waited till the end of January to bring it for repairs, but the one im using now is the speed of computers 20 years ago.
There is no way I will buy an HP again, they are really not less expensive, I paid over CHF 900 plus but lesson learned the hard way.
I will have to start saving for a new laptop now.

Dell is definitely the way to go but you can also check out Isus computers as well. I heard they are not bad. As you probably know, Apple computers are also top quality albeit, for the price you don't get near the storage you get with a Dell. Apple computers tend to outlast any Dell computer but for a Windows-based computer, it's Dell.

Watch out for Acer computers as well! They too are inexpensive but, in my experience, not much better than HP. If it turns out it's the hard drive in the laptop, have the technician put in a WD hard drive. They are not that expensive and worth it. You would have a reliable backup computer and would be able to retire the old one you are using now. If you are able to have the HP repaired to your satisfaction, I would still plan on replacing it and then keeping it as a backup.

I was reading the comments below. Always ALWAYS back up your files. If you don't have any external hard drives, at least pick up one or two smaller ones for this purpose. Having read below, I hope the technician can get your computer up as is so you can get those files backed up! A bunch of suggestions here. I hope some of them are useful to you :)

Thanks Daniel, the guy managed to get everything going and now I`m out of $175 not happy at all.
I just hope the computer will hold on long enough as I save money to get something different.
Always backup, something so simple, something we learn as soon as we start using computers but we or should I say I? forget to do most of the time.
It`s better now but I remember when I got started here, I used to lose posts that I had finished writing, not yet published then something came between and I did not even save them. The same thing with backup, I always seem to forget. Lesson learned this time because if I had lost everything, it could have been really costly.

Get your files backed up as soon as you can. It is also a very good idea to have any files, especially irreplaceable ones on media that is offline in case you get hit with a cyber attack. You never know and it can only be a click away!

I am dedicating my laptop to online use. All my files are on an off-line computer. I transfer any file I get from the Internet to the off-line computer as soon as I can and only utilities needed to convert files, etc are on the web computer. If the computer gets hit, little more than an inconvenience occurs and your files are safe!

When I write my articles, I use a reliable text editor. I will then, copy the text to whatever platform I need to put it on, such as my WP back office or any writing platform on WA. It is too easy to lose work by writing on any of these platforms because of browser issues or the platform you are using hangs. I've had it happen many times before I learnt to do it on a text editor. I use Gedit, but that's because I am running Linux. On Windows it would be Notepad though, it still, after all these years, defaults to ANSI, which is totally dated. If you use Notepad, make sure you save it as UTF-8. You find this on the "Save As" form.

Be sure to use a plain text editor and not a word processor!

Technology. Go figure. Good luck sorting things out.

The best I can do right now is to get the repair guy which im not happy about but seems a must right now.,

I dropped my $200 chromebook. The repair man wants $120 to fix it. I think I will just by another one.

lol, how people can squeeze cash out of us.My laptop cost around 900 which is about us 960s or so I guess, so it is ok to pay CHF 100 for repairs hoping he will not ask for more

I can't imagine how frustrating that can be. Have you tried to start it in safe mode? Sometimes that worked for me. Computers are so persnickety sometimes 🤨

Thank goodness you had a backup! Slow is better than none at all. And just think of it as a speed bump on your road to success!

the slow one working than not being online at all

I had trouble with HP laptops constantly crashing in Windows 10 and no longer use them. I do all my work on an HP desktop, which works very well. I acquired a Dell Laptop last year, a low power model. It is slow but solid. Best of luck with your computer issues.

I will sure not buy a HP next time, this one is just 1.5 years old but the issues I have had are not worth it.

Dave, I use Dell Desktops at both locations and I recently purchased a refurbished Dell chrome book on ebay and am very pleased with it also!
