The only themes that show up in the search are ones that are listed in the Wordpress Theme directory. If it's not there, but you can find it online, you can upload it manually.

Yes, the Search box allows you to type in a Theme name when you are on the "Add Theme" section of the Dashboard. However, as a Starter member, you are limited to the initial 12 themes presented. Once you upgrade to Premium, you should be able to use those themes, if free.
