I Am Considering Giving Up On Comments and Feedback

I admit defeat. Since I started a year ago I always defended anyone not leaving the correct comments and / or feedback. I am a strong believer in that we should give advice and guidance to members not understanding how to leave proper comments and feedback. I have never disapproved a comment until right NOW.

For the past 2 weeks I am requesting comments and feedback for my website nearly every day. I don't know what is going on but nearly 90% of the feedback and comments are really poor quality. The quality of the Comment and Feedback platforms are definitely deteriorating fast.

I am spending hours tracking down members and explaining the correct procedure. Another problem I have is that everyone leave comments on my websites saying they are also happy WA members. This means that nearly all my comments are the same and it makes it really difficult to engage in these types of comments. I can only say so much before I start repeating myself.

I would like to know how you experience the Comment and Feedback platforms these days?

I feel your pain. I use it sporadically; I just don't have the time. But when I do use it, I know that there is a possibility that I may not get a comment, but feedback instead.

some people give great comments and some give feedback, then there are those who don't really read the article and comment any way. You just have to work with it (if you want to) and hope for the best.

Thanks for the reply Vanessa. I think I will take a break from comments for now:)

Dont underestimate the power of comments in googles eyes. Ok some may be crap but we have the ability to edit them which can make them much better.
Don't waste your time tracking people down.
Simply spend 2 minutes improving the quality of the comment, reply to add more content and then move on to the next set of posts you are planning.

Feedback platform : Personally I don't bother with the feedback platform. Instead I see how other authority sites are laid out (menus/ formats etc) and try to upskill to match them.

Paul your advice on looking at other authority site is very useful. When someone asks me about what a website should look like, I always advise them to go look at the best 5-10 in their niche to see what they are doing...Take note of the things that stand out, look for things none include, and then design yours...

Yes Dave, with practice and more experience, we can research what other successful sites are doing, find out how they do it and then try to implement it.

Thanks for the reply Paul. I think I will take a break from comments for now:)

Yours is not the first complaint, Rika. personally, I have had a great experience with giving and receiving Site Comments and Feedback!

This seems to be a never-ending issue that doesn't, but hopefully, "relief" will appear in the near future. At the end of the day, you gotta do what you think is best.

Thanks for the reply Veronica. I think I will take a break from comments for now:)

I don’t think that every stranger that reads a post is going to leave a thoughtful, engaging comment. Personally, I don’t really care. To me, a comment means they read something on my site, which is what I’m looking for. They could say “Kilroy was here” and that would be ok with me.

LOL :-)

Haha! it's not ok with me..

I think we fall into the trap of thinking that everyone else has the same experience or background or dedication level that we have, so we expect then to meet our expectations because that’s what we would do. We’re dealing with people who have all kinds of different backgrounds and life experiences here. I think we should be ourselves and let others be themselves too. We are all trying and learning.

I was joking there to a point.
I know we are all different, think different etc..but when you get feedback most of the time it's not relevant to our content and doesn't make sense.

I have corrected and contacted members before to make them aware but can't do that forever. I got fed up.
When you can't even understand what is said, that is not ok.

If we show them how to do it right then they will understand, but the ones that rush just to leave a bad comment isn't fair.

I take my time to write a relevant comment knowing that's how we do it. I want some of that myself.

I know you are one of the better ones here Patsy and my reply wasn’t directed at you personally. I just used the reply button from your answer to write to the community in general rather than start a whole new comment. Sorry, I should have clarified myself better.

No problem, don't apologize.
Writing a new comment would have been seen better than within another comment.

Thanks for saying I'm one of the better ones :D

Thanks for the reply Grant. I think I will take a break from comments for now:)

Hi I feel your pain. I have had pretty good comments on my site, however, they are one stop comments. In my opinion, for comments to be authentic they should be followed up.

Sometimes even though I respond to a question, the "commenter" never follows up or replies. There is no conversation.
I have a serious issue with that. :)

My focus now though is to drive "outside" comments to my site.

Thanks for the reply David. I think I will take a break from comments for now:)

Not my cup or cups of tea. The beautiful thing is that there are so many ways of building your business, and if you focus on just one you can get the traffic you need. The one that is not working, skip it for now.

There are a few ambassadors I follow, and their names are not on the leaderboard for comments contributor. So if it is not working for you, that is fine, focus on the one that is working. Thank you for posting this controversial topic.

PS: Kyle and Carson is aware of the need for improvement. Can't see how, when each individuals are different. Just saying.

Thanks for the reply David. I think I will take a break from comments for now:)

Yesterday I started the process of transferring my domain from bluehost to WA and it was to take advantage of all WA tools to include the comment exchange.

It’s discouraging to hear your experience with comments. I surely don’t want a bunch of comments saying I’m a happy WA member as well. I’m looking for true engagement about the topic at hand.

I thought I read somewhere that the comments are monitored? I will chime in more about this when I have more experience. Sorry to hear about your experience.

We have to approve them first.

Thanks for the reply Nate. I think I will take a break from comments for now:)

Oh Boy Rika!
Here we go.....

5 comments in a few days were feedback alone. I don't care anymore, I haven't in a long time because I used to keep them, edit and explain later what they are doing wrong.
No Thanks.
When we don't accept them, the box pops up and we leave an explanation that they get in an email, along with notifying them they didn't get accepted. I tell them THERE exactly what they did wrong.

Too many spelling mistakes in one feedback.
A couple of them were NOT even relevant to my niche!??
One talked in circles and made me dizzy.
The rest were feedback x 5, which were more recent.

Twice I bought credits so I can get much needed comments, I had NO time to do the pay it forward thing anymore.

At least we get our page/post reposted for a new feedback Opps! I mean comment.

Feedback I stopped after 2. For me it's needed when we are newer members and really need feedback. If no one agrees it's fine. No other platforms have this, I don't need this method when I get them through members checking out my website.

I agree, the platforms need a shakeup badly.

You are not alone ;)

Thanks for the reply Patsy. I think I will take a break from comments for now:)

I don't blame you. I take breaks also but want to keep a few ongoing for the posts that need them. I'm not going to neglect my website over the ridiculous comments left.

I check which posts could use an unpdate if it's been about a month or more, and for a newly published one and go for those.

I am so used to this by now with 'those' comments I put up with it and eventually get great comments for the few needed for that time.

I don't know what comments they are looking for here. If they want engaging comments they should accept questions, observations, and opinions related to the matter.
I had been thrice banned from using the comment thread because of disapproved comments which I think they are germane to what is presented on the site.
What they only want is to appreciate what they wrote and nothing else. How could you engage people in a discussion if there is nothing to say other than appreciate it.
For my ten months with Wealthy Affiliate, there is only one that I disapproved because the comment is in the other world. But others even it's a little bit off I accept it.
This is another side of the coin on what you are saying Rika but we are the same looking for something that is engaging.

Thanks for the reply Jimmy. I think I will take a break from comments for now:)

I have definitely experienced the same thing and have had some people essentially copy and paste a response to different pages on my same site. Which is really frustrating when I spend time coming up with comments to websites. I've even had comments disapproved because they said I over-killed it....

I assure you there are some of us who actually take the time to follow the guidelines and try and give great comments.

Thanks for the reply Denee. I think I will take a break from comments for now:)
