How Hot is TEXAS in the Summer?
Fellow Texans and Wanna-bees!
You must read this quick diary log of an individual moving to the sweet warm climate of Texas!Whether you live in Texas or not you may want to read this before moving here.
I'm of course born and bred here so very much accustomed to the climate. We have, fried eggs on the sidewalks before, along with bacon and toast..or what we call a full deal 'Texas-Style' meal!

We live outside of Houston. It is hot, but I am from Florida and it is plenty hot there too! Thank goodness for A/C. Heading to FL for vacation at the end of the month. FL in August outside at theme parks, now that will really be hot!. Lord help me.
I remember those Texas summers. According to NOAA's average data Austin and Dallas have 16 and 17 days a year over 99 degrees. But Las Vegas has them beat with 70 days over 99 degrees. Of course I moved to Arizona where Phoenix is over 99 degrees 107 days a year. :)
Know the feeling of too too hot! We moved south after a summer with two weeks of 46 degree temperature. Plus we have the huge bushfire problems.
I was like "Huh?" before I noticed the Koala pic and then I realized your south is my north and your 46 is my 115. :)
Haven't you guys gone metric yet! Up in northern New South Wales in this really hot weather we used to water the garden before it got too hot and in the late evening. At that time the Butcher Bird family would line up on the fence. Then in turn land on the centre of the sprinkler, dance around, shake their tail feathers and hop to the end of the line on the fence. As soon as one left the sprinkler the next one landed. It was like a never ending shower juggling act until the water got too hot.
Yep! Pure Texan through and through! Born here but not raised in Texas, but I married a true Texan and moved to TEXAS! Yes it is HOT, but we also have cold, especially if you live in North Texas! Don't forget, hurricanes AND we have tornadoes, and we have wildfires! Oh and sand storms! We have Bluebonnets too!!!
Houston, born and raised.... I can't believe ya'll said ya'll are accustomed to this heat. I will never get used to this. It should never be 85 when you wake up at 6am.
Well, the nice thing about growing up in Hpouston is that it makes the rest of theld feel comfortable. 12 consecutive days over 100 F so far in Austin, but not as humid as Houst, where I grew up!
You are right about the weather. I'm an old Texas Dawg. I start wearing jackets if the temp. drops below 80. I lived all over the world and I couldn't get back here quick enough. ;-) J
Same here, and after growing up in Houston, I feel miserablre if the humidity gets below about 75%, too.
Nope, moving down to my sister's place outside of Fort Worth. I've heard per her complaining how hot it gets :)

I can relate to the heat. I lived in Arizona for quite a few years. A transplant from Seattle. The first year I moved there it was, according to the official temperature folks that keep records, reached 131 degrees F.
Just about died!!!
Average temps in the summer was around 118 to 128 or so. You are right, you "sort of get 'used' " to it. Ha Ha
I lived in Lake Havasu City which is usually hotter than even Death Valley most of the time.
After years of that, I had to leave.
Much cooler where I live now.
Great post. Thanks for sharing.
