Sorry, I should know this and have been using the WA Search Bar to try and find out. I know I've read something about this. But how much can a Starter Member see and how do they

Good discussion you've started here Rick. Many of us want to know the answer to this question, including me. ~Marion

I was hoping a starter member would let us know. :)

We'll probably find the answer in the Affiliate Bootcamp lessons. I haven't got that far yet.

I asked this once of one of our long term members and he confirmed that the answer is yes but only for the first 7 days!

Oh, even the Search Bar? Hopefully one of the Starter Members jumps on here and let's us know. Thanks.

Oops! I just went back and checked, I asked if they could post questions to the community! The answer was for the first 7 days! Sorry I should have checked first! lol

No worries, thanks.

Yes, they can access it. But not all training is available. Many are free, but some are premium.

I'm sure someone blogged about what they can access in the past month or so. That's what I was looking for. I actually thought it was you or Shawn or Leo. Thanks.

According to what I learnt on starter member account, you can access everything here in WA during the the 1st 7 days of your joining. But will be limited to access only the so called training course level 1. After 7 days, you cannot ask questions for personal support that's available to premium members. You probably can use search bar but will be limited to the resources allowed.
Hope it helps:)

Thanks, that's what I thought, too. I just didn't want to be sending Starter Members to the Search Bar if they couldn't actually access it.

You're welcome. I know how you feel. But whoever uses the search bar as a starter member shouldn't have any problems in search of anything here especially when they just start up. Remember, no limit except the training block beyond Level 1.

Hi folks. Does anyone use free templates for social media sites such as Facebook or Google+, etc. I posted something this morning but out of frustration wound up using a Power

Rick I use various programs to turn an image with my text into a jpg. It's not really like using a template but it looks like a poster with words and I find it to be effective especially with inspirational thoughts and then typing my website at the bottom

Yeah, I've done it using Paint but it doesn't always look the best. Which program is the simplest?

http://Canva.com has free templates. I use them and upload my own photos so I don't have to pay their $1.00 per image fee.

Canva is pretty cool!

Free templates to do what?
Is it something to help with G+ or FB?
I've never heard of this before, maybe I need this.

You know how you see posts on social media with nice backgrounds and then there's something typed on them? I want to create something that's not on a white background. And then post to FB and G+.

I'll check that out. Thanks a lot.

Gmegs, I'm assuming you use it. Is it pretty easy and quick?

I'm curious. What do you use a template for?

I'd like something easy to post to social media. A background that I can type in that helps the post stand out.

Interesting. Never thought about it. I do post images I created but a tenplate? Very interested

I don't have any Rick.
Ken

Thanks, Ken.

Hi. I'm in a position to buy a new desktop and am wondering if I should go with an iMac or stay with a PC. Which would you recommend for an online business and for writing (prima

I don't know if this will help you, but here's a (funny) post on similar topic. A bit old, but some things are timeless. :)
https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/boomergp08/blog/hey-kyle-carson-some-humor-for-you

I remember reading that :) Thanks.

I've worked on PC's, but all I've ever owned was a Mac.
Since about 95% of the world is on Windoz, that's what I would recommend.
When my Mac goes, that's what I'll buy. Once you go Mac, you never go back. ;^)

So many are on Windows but I think they've made it easier to switch between the two. Thanks.

I've only been using PC until now, but I've heard that the PC is much more susceptible to viruses than a Mac, and some viruses aimed at PC won't affect a Mac at all. That's just what I heard.

I've heard the same. Plus PCs seem to always be updating which I've heard a Mac won't do. I can't count the number of times I've had to wait while my computer finished updating. Thanks.

I've experienced the same.

If you get a MAC, let us know how you compare the two.

I can but it will take me a while to learn the basics before I know for sure. Thanks for the suggestion.

I can only speak for myself, but switching over from PC to Mac was the BEST computer decision that I ever made! There was a little bit of a learning curve when it came to my new Mac but once I got through it, all was great! Mac seems a lot more user friendly overall.

This is good to know, it's exactly the spot I will be in. Thanks for giving your perspective, it's appreciated.

If you check out some of the new PCs you
will find they can out preform the Mac.
I have both at the moment. I use them each
for different purposes. The Mac for graphics.

I don't use graphics so maybe a Mac is not what I need. Thanks, Ken.

Mac is my recommendation nothing better then that ;)

That's what I keep hearing. Perhaps it's time I joined, eh. Thanks.

Rick, I have had a laptop and did not like it. Still have it but don't use it. Why? I don't know, I just do not like it. My wife (Ginny) loves here Acer Laptop, but does not like her Acer PC. I, on the other hand love my two Desk-Top Computers, One Dell, the other Acer. Like Acer better than Dell. Mac. I couldn't tell you. I have no experience with a Mac. Heard Good and Bad. Take a survey of the other comments and.........Gee.........Make an Informed "Guess"?

Happy Trails, Brother, have a great day.............Frank

Thanks, Frank. Going to take my all-knowing 17 year old son and check out the Mac. I love my iPad which is the only Apple product I currently own.

SON knows best on computers. I am sure he knows quite a bit about them. I think he naturally will want you to invest in the fastest game playing computer out there, with all the latest graphics and loaded with TeraBites of storage.
Good luck and you and son have a great shopping day...........Frank

Love a laptop, you can sit anywhere you want:)

That's true. Right now I can get a good deal on a desktop. But that means I would have a Mac desktop and a PC laptop.. That could be difficult until I can get the Mac desktop in the spring.

Hi Rick! I don't have a mac, but everyone tells me to buy one. Now, for writing, many editors use PC and Word in particular, so my changing to a mac wouldn't be beneficial to me, so I'm staying with PC. Maybe others have had different experiences. I wish you the best and will be watching this blog for other comments :)

I know you can get Word for Mac. My book designer wants me to send the manuscript to her in Word so I guess I would have to invest in the program.

There's at least one free alternative to Word called OpenOffice. (There are probably several others as well but I haven't used them.) OpenOffice has very similar capabilities to those that Word has and can export its files in Word format.

I am a PC man, you would have to learn how to use the iMac. My GF has one and it is set up different. But I am sure you could figure it out with the tutorials.

Yeah, I've always been PC, too but I'm wondering if its time to change when I have the chance. Thanks. Tommy

Hi folks. Well I've looked high and low. I was sure there was some training on the "All In One" Sitemap but, if there is, I cannot find it. After I go to "Feature Manager" and t

looks like the discussion has some good ideas. hope you get it resolved

Not yet but thanks. Will give it a bit more time.

You have to go to google webmastertool and activate (or test) your sitemap.

OK, I've activated it and submitted the url as per Coolcity below. Guess I just need to be patient now. Thanks.

I couldn't figure it our either. I just installed Yoast, which has video instruction about submitting your sitemap. If you get it let us know.

I keep hearing about Yoast, good and bad, but am staying away for now. Trying to stick with the basic training and spend my time on writing. Are you liking Yoast and do you think it's helpful?

I couldn't get the xml site map part of all in one to work for me, so I used a plugin called Simple Google Sitemap XML. It works perfectly.

Make sure that once you install it to go into Settings>Google Sitemap XML, and under Your XML Sitemap change the location to store the XML from the plugins folder to the root folder. Once you've done that, you site map will be at yourdomain/sitemap.xml. It doesn't automatically submit a site map like all in one claims to do, so every time you post a new article, make sure to go into Google/Bing Webmasters and submit it.

Hope this helped!

Thanks for this. I've used Google XML Sitemap before and will keep your comments in mind. Wanted to give the AIO Sitemap a try. Thanks for helping.

Your welcome

Hi Rick - no, that's all I have done too - it may not register instantaneously though.

However, in webmaster tools and Bing, you can manually submit your sitemap by entering the sitemap URL.

All the best, Mark

Thanks Mark, good to know. Is the Sitemap url your domainname/sitemap.xml?

Yes, worked for me too. .../sitemap.xml is correct.

Hi Rick - yes, as Gary confirmed - it is yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml

Cheers, Mark

Hi folks. Just wondering what you think about this. I know about putting medical disclaimers (I've worked in health care for over 30 years and a doctor I am not:) But what do yo

Best way to monitize: 1. Develop a subscription service for your VIP group. 2. Sell niche products to your mailing list.

That's a really good two step process, thanks.

You have expertise that is valuable. Your time invested in a health care website has value. You have seen the good and the bad of our health care industry. You have defined a broad niche. Focus on what you consider to be most important and work in as narrow a niche as possible. Build your traffic. WA has excellent training materials on how to do this. The one thing they lack is the capability to build a opt-in contact list with autoresponder. You have to build your list because that is the best way to monitize your site.

Need more info? Call me.

Yeah, list building is something I have to work on. Thanks for all of your comments. I agree that I need to focus on the niche and make sure it's not too broad. I am finding some great search results in Jaaxy.

Jaaxy is the best I have found. Not only gives me a great keyword list, but it also gives me ideas for articles, webpages and even niches to pursue

I always write from my own experience and my holistic naturopath doctor. You should be very careful when you advise people anything about their health. Everybody's body is very unique so it should unique approach as well. Not like in most cases Western doctors give the same pills and dozes to people with same symptoms but different underlying causes. Unfortunately holistic approach is rarely used.

Thanks, I will be looking into the holistic things as well once I am stabilized for a few months or more.l

I agree with Ansley regarding that the entire health care system approaches. Doctors try to help us but in many cases they cannot do it but they STILL CHARGE us a lot of money. They prescribe drugs with very harmful side effects. They do not worry about ethical concept. They have their own disclaimers. I have 20 years of my personal bad experience dealing with a system. It was one of reasons I created my own blog trying to help people like me. I found a holistic treatment that helps to cure a lot of sickness and want to share with people. Regarding monetizing the blog, well, we need finances to support our blogs and like any jobs it should be paid. I do not see anything wrong with it. I wish it would be more blogs about health problems because they do help people to find alternative ways to get better. You just need to put a disclaimer in your blog. It is FDA regulations.

I agree about the disclaimer and I would include where I'm coming from on my About Me page. I know I'm doing lots of searching online myself right now and I'm getting to recognize which sites truly want to help and which ones are out to make a buck. Thanks for commenting.

Agree 100% with Tanya. Major drugs companies don't worry about making billions from what they sell, yet we worry about making a relatively tiny amount from a small blog which may genuinely help a lot of people where over-the-counter and prescribed drugs have not. Just get on with it.

That's a good point, @coolcity, thanks. Guess it is time to get on with it. Thanks for your comment.

I always state, that they should consult with their doctor with any dietary changes or even adding supplements. Some people have allergies or take medicines that can bad interactions with other things.

I agree. I wouldn't want to take the place of a doctor or someone else from their health care team. It's about people's health first, not making money.

If you are making it clear it is your opinion, based on direct experience or on the best authority, if you state that any real medical advice should be given by a professional, than the information you supply could be helpful.
For example if I am interested in discovering what a neuritis is and what are the current cure options, and you supply the information, the links and so on, it is useful and you could also suggest what worked best for you....

That's exactly what I'm thinking. Send them to the experts but talk about my experiences, what I've learned. I would also be sure to advise them to ALWAYS seek their doctor's advice before trying something new or making any serious changes, like playing around with their meds. Thanks for your comments.

It depends on what you are recommending. A weight loss book would be fine, a 'how to cure cancer' book would not.

If you are building the site to profit, I would look at where your largest profit would be. Is it an ebook with advice? Is it it a set of physical product to help the person do something?

I think there's no problem with trying to help people with a medical problem. I would maybe stay away from trying to "cure" it, and lean towards "relief" or "dealing with" so you don't have to worry about too many disclaimers.

Well said, Nathaniell. I would not go anywhere near saying there's a cure but rather go the relief or managing aspect. A "my experience" type of ebook might be something I look at down the road but only when I think it would be of value. Thanks

I don't see anything wrong with it as long as the information you're giving is backed by science.

Actually, I would want to link to the authority sites for the medical details. I don't want to speak about things I'm not qualified for, that's one area I would have to be very careful with.

Mnnn...backed by science...hmnnn...like the FDA and the pharmaceutical companies who alter data to suit their purposes and kill tens of thousands of people as a result? Hmnnn...I'd go with personal experiences myself. Cynical soul that I am :-)

PS My cynicism is well-earned in case you were wondering :-)

I'll take science backed medicine over new age quackery any day. You wanna talk about dangerous!

I think it's a combination of both and that's what I'll be looking at in a few months. I support science backed medicine but also know there are many great alternative treatments and such that are proving their value. Thank you both.

I think it's a great idea.

I think so, too and would be writing from personal experience. I read a rant about this a week ago that really raised some questions for me.

wow i'm interested in finding out about this as well, some might think it's unethical :/

Some may, I agree. But I would be writing from personal experience so they can't say I'm being an opportunist. It's something I would rather not have or be writing about. Thanks for your interest.

Why on earth would it unethical?

Sainiter, some people do think it might be. "Making money off of people's illnesses", that sort of thing. But I wouldn't start with that. I would provide experiences and information for people to learn. Later I would monetize as appropriate. By then I could show the value of the site as well.

I suppose you could say that the entire health care system is unethical, in that case! Which it kind of is. But I believe that in general, doctors and hospitals are doing the best they can...but don't kid yourself, they have monetized and they are making money from it! As to the pharmaceutical companies...well, those would be the unethical guys!

Almost sounds like a post I could do :)
