Thanks for the reminder, Rick. I come from a military family. I am eternally grateful to our remarkable veterans.
They are remarkable. I cannot imagine what they went through. We just honored our grandpa, my stepdad. Not sure how many more years we have him.
I just posted a thank you post of my own for military veterans. I did not realize that someone (you) already posted something. I thought people forgot. Happy to see that I was wrong.
so glad we remember. Just got done our service. Always so moving. Thanks for posting as well
Thanks Rick... I honor my 91 year old Father... WWII... the stories and memories of all his fallen comrade as well as those who also returned... amazing what they survived.
A generation of very few left, that will surely be missed. He is still very active and blessed with good health to this point in time... may it continue... :)
Thank him for his service :) my grandfather was also in WWII he passed in 2009. I could sit for HOURS and HOURS listening to his stories, those were special times / now special memories.
Yes! My husband just retired after almost 10 years, and I also am a veteran. I thank all those who serve, and those families of those who serve. People have no idea of the amount of personal sacrifice involved in even the spouses/children of the active duty members. Be sure and tell a veteran thank you today!
I too join you in honoring our veterans. My Grand Fathers on both sides of my family were veterans of ww11 and also two Great Grandfathers were in ww1. We have a lot to thank them for! Thanks Rick.
Thanks for sharing. As I was reading this I wonder how many of their stories have been told. My stepdad has only opened up in the last few years and shared some of what happened. He still has nightmares so it is difficult.
As the daughter of a career serviceman (mother also) and the wife of a career Air Force pilot, I fully understand the sacrifices all our vets make for all of us. I also honor the families that support them. Thank you all. I am grateful for your service.
Thanks Pat. Our kids Have grown up going to thew service each year and pay their respects. Mary has great words on her blog, too.

My dad (85) passed in May 2012. He served the last 18 months of WWII, In amongst his many things that did *not* get last were his dog tags from those 18 months. I wear the necklace all the time, in honor/memory/love for him. My sister will be getting the matching bracelet this Christmas, and she'll save it for her son (the first boy in 57 years), named after our older brother and my dad's middle name.
Sorry, didn't mean to thread-jack...I just got a bit teary there..
Thank you for sharing your story of how you honor your dad. Very moving.
Thank you -my grandfather was also in WWII in 1945, he passed in 2009. We dragged him to the traveling Vietnam wall a few years before he died. He received a WWII medal, and they lined them against the wall for people to come by, shake their hand and thank them. He got a kick out of the little kids coming up and thanking him, shaking his hand.. He said that was the first time he had been thanked...... that was so sad :-(
Thanks Digger12 for sharing. What a fantastic way to honor your grandfather and give him some very well deserved recognition. We need to say "thank you" to all of our Vets.
