I Wrote "Follow the Training" & Google Said "Go To Page 1"
Hi folks.
Two days ago, October 7th, I wrote a blog here on WA entitled "Follow the Training". This was in response to a comment I left on someone's post that they needed to follow the Level 1 Certification Training. I realized that we often share that training because it is where new members should begin. So I thought I would quickly blog about it, intending it for WA members only.
Tonight, just out of curiosity, I typed that phrase into Google and here is the result:
That's my blog, Page 1, #5 spot. Not bad for such a generic term that doesn't include what kind of training, what it's about, or even where it's at. And, um, is that 1.4 billion search results?
With my curiosity fully aroused, I then typed the same phrase into Jaaxy and here is that result:
Incredible! There are only 72 monthly searches...the QSR is 421...and the SEO Power is...7? This is not something we would target as a keyword for our websites as the numbers are terrible and this is not the low hanging fruit (meaning keyword) that we are taught to use. But yet there the post is on page 1!
Why am I sharing this?
Blogs and discussions we post here in Wealthy Affiliate are ranked in the search engines, and quickly. Let me make two points:
- Write relevant and useful posts, discussions, and training that help and support the community and teach about creating websites and building an online business.
- Ever wonder why Kyle and Carson encourage us to share posts from WA using our affiliate link? Because of point #1 above but also because of their powerful ranking and the potential they have of reaching others in cyberspace to let them know about WA.

Check your blog posts people. I checked mine and got first on page one. 170 searches traffic of 30 and only me in the QSR. How do I monetise it? :)
If they are coming back to WA through your post it will be via your affiliate link and you will get the credit. Make sure you read Carson's post (link is included in this article).
Thank you. Makes us realize that we never know who might be reading our posts and we should then be keeping them positive and inspirational.
These are the inspirational stories I just LOVE to read and hear about! Thank you for sharing!!!!
Yeah, I was shocked. Carson had told me that on another post I did but that had a more targeted title. This one was so broad I said " no way". But you can see the proof.
Yup, I know you're right Rick. Several months ago I remember posting something here at WA... I think in a Classroom discussion or something and a few days later, bigger than life, first page of Google. It truly is amazing, the capabilities that we have here in this community!
All I can say to this Rick, which both of us say all the time to new members is.... Follow the training.... :)
Thanks Shawn. For "old" members we can say "review the training" . There is always something new to be learned.
Thanks George. Do what we're told and succeed, right? Make sure you read Carson's post, it's quite enlightening.
Awesome! I guess I should have been titling my blogs something more productive that "what I've learned", but I guess that's not a big deal ;)
Hi Nathaniell. Yeah, pretty cool to get ranked for such generic terms, and quickly. Helps to spread the word. Thanks for reading.
@Welshy Actually, that's a pretty good idea. Wouldn't that be funny if I got them to rank better after changing the titles? :)
Would renaming them actually work, Nathaniell? That would be a great post from you if it does but it might cause a run on renaming of titles from other WA members. I'd be curious to know regardless.
You're right about that (the wave of renaming). I've renamed 4 so far. Nothing fancy, just a title that describes what the post is about rather than being a uniform "What I've Learned" Tip # X. We'll see how it goes, and I'll let you know.
Anything we do here at WA has been index at Google, I knew this for awhile now. It's like there is a spy who are always watching us here, lol
the other night I was helping someone... then, I went to click google to see if her site has been index but instead what I saw was her question at the classroom and my answer to her question:)

Amazing! I wonder if someone were to sign up via your blog post if you'd get the signup?
Hi. I would get the credit if they signed up directly through my post on Google. But if you shared it, using your affiliate link, you would get the credit. Make sure you read Carson's post in the link above to fully understand. As an example, I could share Carson's post using my affiliate link and if someone signed up I would get the credit. Does this make sense?
yup got it thanks :-)
