Things We Should Consider When Meeting And Greeting Our Fellow Wealthy Affiliates

Hi Folks

Recently I had a follow back from someone I had connected with here in the Community and it made me decide to write a post about some of the little details we should consider when we connect with or fellow Members.

When we follow someone, we are introducing ourselves to that person and how we do it can make all the difference as to how we appear to them and also to whoever may read our greeting to them.

I'll come back to the first bit shortly.

I make a point of following newbies who have set up their account and written a short bio every day, and also of connecting with active Members who have commented on the training modules I'm currently working on or who have made comments on peoples’ posts which have caught my attention.

When I get the return follow from them, I always thank them for following me back and try to find out what their actual name is, rather than just use their WA User Name. Sometimes that means scrolling all the way down their profile page until I get to the very first welcome message to them from Kyle, but I think this personal touch makes all the difference. I've had a few people here greet me as 'Brennan' which is my Surname!

Another nice touch can be to have a quick read through their bio and maybe comment on a certain aspect of it that resonates with us. I confess I don't often do this, but maybe I should. The short time that it takes away from the training compounds surprisingly quickly, however!

What I'm saying is that we should not have a single standard 'copy and paste' greeting for every single person we follow or who follows us here at Wealthy Affilate. Some are newbies, some are long standing members, which brings me back to my original point about my reason for writing this post.

I've been here since January 2017. I followed someone a while back and when they followed me back they gave me lots of ‘useful advice’ such as how I should upgrade to Premium, doing this within my first 7 days, getting started with the training, etc. I've been here a year and a half, went Premium before the end of my first day and upgraded to annual within about a week!

Imagine that person greeting the likes of Marion Black, Tony Hamilton, LittleMama, Loes and a few more of the Wealthy Affiliate super stars like that!

So there's my point! This person who I won't name did not take even the few seconds that it takes to have a quick glance over my profile and come up with a relevant greeting. That could just be a momentary lapse of concentration (we’re all human after all) or it could be just plain lazy and slap dash. Either way, is it how we want to appear to our fellow Community Members? Maybe I’m just being petty – I’m ex-military and a stickler for the little details!

Greetings can be a copy and paste - that's no problem - but if so, then we need to have a copy and paste for newbies, one for experienced members, Ambassadors, etc, with their name added for a bit of a personal touch, so long as it doesn't take all day to scroll back to find it, in the case of our longer standing colleagues!

Hope you find this little tip useful, guys and girls. Have a great Wednesday!

Cheers

Rich :-)

Thanks for the tip it will be very helpful

That's a good point, specially on "newbie" perspective like myself.
It would give the real meaning of "community".
And it's comforting and more encouraging for us to buy WA,
aside from the things we're gonna learn but to know the fact that we will be surrounded by "real people"... I think that's more important. =)

You know, I actually agree with you. I've had people comment on my profile after following them saying that it's nice to meet me and then they tell me welcome to Wealthy Affiliate when I've been here for over 4 years now. We all should pay attention to the details and then respond accordingly.

Hi Rich.
I agree with you and was planning to write something on the same tune. It was nice to hear that many seniors feel the same way.

I make it a point to at least address them by their WA username, though it is an excellent idea to mention their actual name.

Wish you all the best and look forward to your training.

Warm Regards,
Gaurav Gaur

I fully agree to what you have said in this post, Rich.

I think we must do our best to greet our WA friends personally and not copy-paste. We do have to prioritize things in life, but every person, here at WA and in "real" life are individuals. We must do our best to treat all persons alike, in private and in business.

Be friendly, be positive, be respectful, be generous, be kind,
and you'll receive the same back.

That was VERY useful! I think I need to re-think my approach. I have a copy and paste greeting because I stink at typing. Anyway, nice to meet you Rich! I am already following you.....

Good afternoon Rich,

I fully agree with your little details! Well said!
I wrote a post a long time ago where I shared my view=little details.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

Hi Richard,

In my opinion the truth is somewhere in the middle ...

No doubt, reading the full bio, knowing the actual real name of a follower, and sending a thank you message, etc is a MUST.

On the other hand, writing new, super-personalized messages all they long can be very time consuming, especially when you'll have a dozen or even more new followers on daily basis.

What I'm trying to say: I'm a full time marketer, so I'm online all day, but obviously I have businesses and websites to run while I'm trying to help people here at WA and the time is an essential factor ... I think that using "standard" copy/paste welcoming or greeting messages is a "necessary evil" in these days. I think that answering concrete questions and trying to solve actual problems is much more important.

And no, you're NOT petty! The "how we want to appear to our fellow Community Members?" question is a crucial pillar in any community ...

But, for me the real question is this:how can we really help our community members?

I know, we should focus on both aspects :)

But as Jim said, we are living in a busy world ...

Hope you don't mind for being so blunt ...

Zed

Agree, Zed.
I personally use ut and paste messages which I think are fine so long as there are different ones for newbies than for experienced and established Community Members.
I start with 'Welcome to the Community' for someone who has recently joined, 'Thanks for following me / following me back' for someone who's been around a while - but I always look for their names.
I certainly wouldn't trawl someone's bio looking for something to comment on, but a quick glance over it at something that might stand out and catch the eye is always good. I appreciate it when someone does that for me.
My point about the guy who sent me his cut and paste reply was that I'd been here for over a year and had long since upgraded to Annual Premium membership and his 'cut and paste' was way off the mark.
He could have embarrassed himself had he sent that to an Ambassador who had connected with him!
No, I don't think you're being blunt. I like directness.
Earning money and helping our fellow Community Members has to be our top priorities but welcoming people appropriately has to come pretty close behind too :-)
Cheers
Rich

And I agree with you :)

Unfortunately the "dog eat dog culture" mentioned in your bio is present in the online world too ...

But maybe we can decrease its influence by being awesome community members and helping out each other. Day by day ...

Thanks for your answer and your time!

Regards,
Zed

You have made some very valid points here Rich. I will say that it is possible the people who are using your surname come from countries where they write their family name followed by their first name.

Thank you for the tips.

Derek

This is very true Rich. Sometimes people forget that they are human and think we need to be told what to do

We have all been guilty of it in the past, but the points you make are quite relevant, if we meet someone here and then meet them in real life as happens with this platform, would we really say

"Nice to meet you, you must go premium"

Peoples profiles here help us to resonate with them and go from there, well put and I enjoyed reading your post
