I Am Appalled At This - What A Way To Welcome A New Member

5.3K followers

This morning I logged on to my WA Profile and saw a message that I was being followed by a New Member.

As I always do, I went straight to the person's profile to welcome them to WA,
thank them following me, let them know that I'd returned the compliment and
to wish them well in their endeavours.

What I saw from a fellow WA member by way of a 'welcome' absolutely appalled me
for it's complete lack of professionalism, integrity and consideration both for our
Newbie and for the WA community and all it's members.

I've coiped and pasted it below for all to see, having removed any identifying
features and replaced them with xxx's, but I took the step of e-mailing the full uncensored version to Kyle for appropriate action.

We were all new members of this Community at one time. As such, what impression would any us of have formed of WA, if we were to receive such blatant spam by way
of a 'welcome' from someone who obviously sees us as nothing more than a meal ticket, using WA as his larder?

If it was me, I'd be immediately questioning the integrity not only of this person but
also what I'd just got myself into. If I'd joined as a free member, it would have had
a seriously negative bearing on any decision I might make to upgrade.

The originator is obviously fully aware of WA's anti-spam rules as can be seen from
the final line of his message, although he seems to interpret them as meaning that
spam is acceptable so long as full links are not included in the message.

Unless of course, he just didn't want to be found out......Erm, well

If the guy had so much as half a brain in his head, he'd have put this in a private
message and not where the entire WA membership can see it. Please don't interpret
that as me saying 'if you want to spam someone, just inbox them so you don't get caught' because that is NOT what I mean. I'm simply stating that the guy is obviously just as stupid as he is unscrupulous.

We all have a duty as members of this Community to ensure that our actions and
behaviours are beyond reproach. What this person did can cause enormous damage
to WA and therefore to all of us and we are all duty bound to bring it to the attention
of the WA Leadership if and when we see it, and not simply because the originator
is using the WA platform to promote the competition - not that is really is 'competition'
because there is nothing out there like WA.

Anyway, rant over. Below is the transcript of this guy's 'welcome' message. Please
feel free to comment.

Someone offered a new member I recruited 'a free psychic reading' once. I was so embarrassed. The new member did not stick around. I may not have either if I had gotten a garbage message like that when I first joined. One of the great things about this community is the no spam policy. I am glad you took action. ~Gina

I've come across 2 members in the last week or so who are posting affiliate links. I directed them to the No Spam rules but they chose to disregard. I also PM'd Kyle with the username and link to their blog but haven't heard anything back yet. There seems to be a lot of this going on lately. I'd like to see all of the links/blogs/comments deleted!

I'm so glad you took action - when I joined WA I was so nervous/scared of online platforms that it took me a while to trust, and then - if you believe that WA is trustworthy - you tend to trust anyone who posts on it. So the poor new member could jump for the opportunity of a spammer, thinking that WA endorses it.

The very best thing about WA that we should all protect, is that it's a positive place with real people giving real support, and not a place for flaming, scamming, spamming or conning.

The most important thing EVER is to keep that trust going and I would like to thank you for calling attention to this! I love WA! Let's not let it change!!!

I've got that character following but, I did not return the follow. I have always been a quick judge of character in which has never let me down.
Want to see something unprofessional, take a look at the live chat once in awhile..almost like the 1-900 sex lines.
It is sad to say that trash does seem to find a way to get in and try to disrupt something that we are all proud of being a part of which is our WA community.

I'm sure that Kyle's response will be quick. Goodby Mr. xxxxxxxxxx. This is the furthest over the line incident violating "Spam is a NO NO" I think I have seen here at WA. Your rant was needed Rich ... thank you.

I do not think this is a correct way of welcoming someone by doing so by selling something which is what happened here. I do not know everyone here but the people I do follow and those that follow me would not act this way so in the main, I think most people who are members of WA are decent honest people and the individual who wrote this as a welcome is in the minority.

As you already know, this is NOT the WA way. As he has done in the past, I'm sure Kyle will take care of it. He doesn't take kindly to stuff like this. Him and Carson have worked too hard and this is a direct reflection on the company.

Having said that, no matter how many times it's addressed (and it has been frequently), you will continue to have spammers albeit not as blatant as this.

Nice catch. As a side note, if it was me, I would probably write to the new person and make some sort of comment in case they now see all of us really in a bad light.

~Debbi

I wrote on his profile that he's in blatant breach of the anti-spam rules and that he should desist, but Kyle is aware now so it's in his hands :-)

Rich, that message sent to you violates the code of ethics policies that is clearly stated by Kyle regarding what is allowed here at WA.

In my opinion that person should be removed from being a member of WA, and done so immediately.

I also had a similar offer sent to me twice by members of WA, sent through private messages to me.

I not only immediately notified Kyle, I also replied back to those members to not to even attempt to solicit me a second time if they knew what was best for them. In addition I immediately marked these private messages as spam.

Provide all details about this person to Kyle. If lucky he/she will be let off with a warning, although as I said above that person could also have his/her membership here at WA immediately revoked.

That type of nonsense should not be a reflection of what 99% of members do NOT do to others.

Sorry that you had to go through it Rich as more than anything else it is truly annoying and condescending.

Jeff

It wasn't sent to me Jeff, it was on the profile page of a newbie who I welcomed when he followed me. This spammer had targeted him on day 1. I reported it to Kyle straight away. I presume the spammer is the same guy who has trolled under the profile 'WTFUP' - above your message on this thread - who nobody has responded to unsurprisingly.

Whoa! I just hovered over the profile pic of "WTFUP" in the message you're referring to and there is no picture and no profile.

I think WTFUP is the probably the original spammer with a different meme, Karen. Kyle has told me his profile has been deleted along with all his spam so I reckon he's actually gone to the trouble of creating a new spoof profile just so he could come back in and throw in a comment like that. How sad can you get....? When the guy eventually finds someone to help him lose his virginity he may eventually realize there's more to get off over than being an idiot online. :-)

I was only into the second sentence and was shocked. I hope he gets removed from WA, this is bad news. I am new here and have not received anything like that before, these people are desperate.

Thank you for posting, this made me aware that people like this are out there.

OH MY!!! That is just so blatantly disrespecful of Wealthy Affiliate's policies not to mention totally disrespecting you. A welcome should be just that...a welcome.

Although we have people whom have created amazing tutorials, personally, I think only Kyle and the person who introduced the new member to WA should be the only people sharing links to training for those new members.

I've seen some welcomes were people have included 2 or more links! I'm thinking, "Whoa!!!" For a anyone who may have some experience with online marketing it may not be an issue. But there are a great number of people - myself included - who come into this platform without any knowledge. Unless the person asks someone something specific, I think including links as a welcome should be omitted.

Glad you reported the offender, Rich. The New York Metro Transit Authority has a motto: If you see something, says something. Good lookin' out, Rich!
