Dear WA Members,

If you are living in the United Kingdom or the Rep of Ireland

ARGOS Ireland have warned customers to dodge a scam claiming to be giving away €500 vouchers being circulated on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp texts received by Irish and UK users of the popular messaging app claim Argos is celebrating its 31st anniversary with €500 vouchers.

The message reads: “Hello, Argos is giving away €500 Free Voucher to celebrate 31st anniversary, go here to get it.

“Enjoy and thank me later !”.

The messages appear to be sent from a normal WhatsApp account, with the sender’s name appearing but designed to dupe recipients into clicking on the link in the message.

Argos confirmed the message is not from them and told customers to delete it.

I received one this morning be Vigilant Guys! and have a great day

Its not only Argos, so is said of IKEA, and ASDA. All scams to get people to click a virus link. Thanks for notifying everyone. Both ASDA and IKEA have issued notice to deny any of such.

Thanks for sharing, Rich.

Thank you for the alert. I don't use WhatsApp, however, I know most of my family and friends does. I'll keep them posted.

Thanks for the alert Rich. One has to be extremely watchful and exercise good judgement with these kind of emails and messages.

Thanks
I'll be on the lookout!

I'm starting to get a lot of scam emails, all of them claiming to be from either Apple, GameStop, Paypal, and Amazon and they almost all seem to be the same theme:

"Your account has been locked or suspended due to unusual activity or too many log in attempts! You must contact our center or click the link below and enter in your information to gain access."

I always laugh at them because they either have too many misspelled words or the email of the sender is definitely not the official emails from either of those companies. I end up saving those emails for my second website to show others exactly what to look out for in scam emails.

Thanks for the warning. I usually get 3 or more emails that are, usually obvious in there attempts to scam.

Think before you click.

Thanks!
I have found that too many of us fall prey to WhatsApp hoaxes. Most businesses hardly do promotions this way.

Not sure why someone would think a voucher of this nature sent through Whatsapp is legitimate. People need to have be less naive if this is working, but what I do know is that scammers only need to fool the 0.0001% in order to have a very lucrative operation going on.

Unfortunately, we are very gullible and not very internet savvy.
Senior citizens, in particular, are always the victims to such scams
