Thassos is one of the most beautiful islands in Greece! It is located in the North Aegean and is known as the "Emerald of the Aegean".

From the absolute whiteness to the waves in the Golden Beach to the pink sunsets in Maries and from the blue waters to the shimmering Alykes to the emerald beaches in Kinira, the palette of the god was inspired! There is some reason why Thassos call it Diamond of the Aegean!

An island of myths and elves and ancient settlements

Thassos once, in very deep antiquity, was united with the very near Kavala with a narrow strip of land. It was essentially a peninsula. The rise in the Aegean Sea has turned it into this gem that has been, for over 20,000 years, maybe more. In the area that opens to the southeast of Thassos, at a distance of about 15 km from Skala Mari, we find prehistoric settlements and samples of early Paleolithic settlement, as well as in the caves in Ginza. Thassos has a stunning story that the traveler will see in the Archaeological Museum of Thassos in Limenas just as soon as someone comes to the island and the open archaeological site. In antiquity the island of Thassos was one of the ten richest cities in the Mediterranean! It is logical if one thinks the mineral wealth in gold and other metals and the marble exported to the area, but also the amazing products of this blessed land that has always been sought after, among them the screaming wine, oil, honey and walnuts.

Thassos has a beautiful mountain in the center of which reaches the impressive peak of Ypsari. The mountainous territory of Thassos is a dream! The mountain capital of the island, Theologos, with its significant Byzantine churches and the beautiful view dominates, while all settlements, Potamia, Sotira, Kastro, Kallirachi, are real cultural treasures. There is the thought that the entire island of Thassos may be declared a World Heritage Site. This is because each village, due to mountain geomorphology, developed completely separately and retained its specialty, while the affinity with Mount Athos influenced the architecture of the settlements by creating real ornaments. If we estimate that these beautiful villages, with slate slopes, are in a verdant nature, with the pine trees descending to the sea, literally, with plenty of water to create waterfalls and lush rivers, we understand why since antiquity it was considered to be the Island of fairies!

And finally, in the emeralds of the rods!

Thassos has a coastline of 115 km and a full perimeter road. Indeed, one can not describe the diversity and precariousness of its beaches! Endless crystal and pale sand on the Golden Beach, a fjord in the monastery of the Archangels, pebbles in Skala Potamia, pebbles that sing as they caress the wave! The beach of Astrid with its pine trees kisses the waters, the twin beaches in Aliki - there are carved rocks in the waters, called Thrones! - the natural lagoon in Giola, a real emerald with very warm waters, Kalami, Kinira, hundreds of small coves, hidden beauties, beaches with shells and sand in thousands of shades, Thassos is concentrated all the beauty of the Mediterranean!

A wine that brought an alliance

The ancient Greeks chased the pleasures, as it is known. Thassos became a member of the Athenian alliance due to its wine! The vineyards of the island are ancient, completely traditional varieties. The red special wine, is unimaginable value! Full of perfumes, with a body so thick that flows like honey, accompanies the rich gastronomy of Thassos. Here you will taste goats that bring it to the fire to stay warm, stunning stuffed with herbs, caper recipes and of course the delicious fish of the North Aegean! The most classic dessert is the sweet nut, with honey, a surprising and completely different flavor. It is accompanied by the equally unique liqueur nut, do not miss it! Of course Thassos is a very cosmic island. Its nightlife is light and you will enjoy your drink amongst other very happy travelers in Potos - the center of nightlife - but also in Astris, Kinira, everywhere! The Thassians themselves are delighting with their guests. Why not; When you are a permanent resident of paradise, you have every reason to be happy!

So why don't you visit Thassos for the summer?

Awesome, Loni!

Such a magnificent island! With so many beautiful Greek isles, would you say this is one of the most beautiful?

It is! You see it combines mountain and sea and it is such a green island!

True, mountains and the sea converging is always the most incredible combination. And the ocean breezes!

Looks beautiful, thanks for sharing!
