118 years have passed since the birth of Lotte Reiniger. But who is Lotte Reiniger?

Charllote Reiniger as her real name was, is a German pioneer in animation silhouettes and she has even preceded Walt Disney for a decade! During her career, Lotte Reininger created more than 40 films with her own invention. The best known of these are "The Adventures of Prince Ahmed" and "Papageno", which had Mozart's music.

The "secret" invention by which Lotte Reiniger made her films was nothing but black cardboard, scissor and also her unlimited imagination!

The whole process of creating animation was then an arduous process where the characters of these films were cut into cardboard and every bit they were photographed to look like they were moving ...

Even today, 118 years after her birth, Lotte Reiniger continues to inspire those involved in the subject.

You are welcome, Eric!

An era I know little about. Thanks for this Rebecca!

My pleasure, Mike!

Amazing! I had never heard of Lotte, thank you, Rebecca. I read that "The Adventures of Prince Ahmed" was one of the first full-length animated movies made and that it preceded Disney's, Snow White. This was made in 1926 with cutout shapes and a backlit background. It was amazing for the time and even nowadays such technique requires a lot of work.

That's right, Carol!

Wow. This is good. Thanks.

You are welcome, John! :)
