WA Affiliate Program

Hi everyone! I recently moved to Melbourne, VIC. Do I need to apply for an Australia Business Number (ABN) as an Amazon affiliate?

Thanks in advance. :)

Ruth

I would advice discussing this with a professional and to also abide by local laws and policies going forward.

Or you may check with the programs terms and conditions.

If your country does not require an affiliate marketer to have a business name and tax id Amazon should not be either. You can use a name for your business and use your tax id as long as it is OK with Australia. At least that is how it works in the USA.

It's been a while since I've been associated with Amazon and now it seems like they are phasing out their affiliate program altogether. I can say that when I had an account there of was required to have a business country specific business number.

That being said I would recommend calling customer service and seeing what they say as well as looking at your contract which will probably be changed by the time you finish reading it. Just kidding about the contract, but they do indeed constantly seem to be changing the rules.

Hey Ruth,

You should log into your Amazon Associate account and then seek out the contact information for their affiliates to use. Asking their technical support staff will get you THE most accurate information rather than having any of us guess here on the WA platform, as we are NOT legal experts.

Hope you find this helpful.

WA Affiliate Program
Updated

Hi, lovely people!

Can I please ask for the best sensible advice (words of wisdom) you can give to aspiring new bloggers here at WA?

Do I have to

Hey Ruth,

Kyle has shared a LOT of secrets in his training already. Most of us refuse to actually see it... or, at least comprehend it.

Consistently adding new content on a weekly basis is the number one secret.

If your competition is posting twice a week then you need to post no less than twice a week... more if you want to beat your competition.

Also, Grace (aka littlemama) shared ALL of her secrets in her training that she published right here on WA. Here's a summary for you: Hope you find this helpful.

This is awesome. Thank you.😊

Hi Ruth, you are on the right track. Keeping building up your websites with new blog's. I am sure by now you are ready to get into the affiliate end of it. Check your traffic, and if you feel you are getting a good source of visitors, go ahead and sign up to start marketing some products and selling them. When it comes to Amazon they are very concerned with your traffic. There are a lot of other affiliates out there also. You are doing great.

Best wishes,
Michael

Thanks, Michael. I'm gonna start looking for affiliate marketing that's related to my niche.

Cheers!
Ruth

Hi Ruth.
I am new to WA having upgraded to Premium at the beginning of August. I am still working through the training. But having been coaching since the mid-1980s I would say finish the training, take any suggested actions throughout training, constantly ask for help (as you have here) and keep on writing. Then whenever you need second and third opinions, or some form of mentoring, reach out to the community again.
“Keep it as simple as possible, but no simpler” as Albert Einstein said.
Best wishes
Richard

Thanks, Richard. I've stopped at Level 3 (of the training) for quite sometime now so I can write blogs for my website. Perhaps I'll continue with the training in a day or two.

Regards,
Ruth

I understand the temptation to leave the training while writing a few posts especially if short of time. :-). Need to keep moving on both as best we can unless you already have experience.
Richard

Thanks, Richard. I am going to continue with the training really soon.

Ruth

Hey Ruth
My 'best' advice is to try and figure out what the searcher is looking for and then try and supply the best information you can.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.😊

Continuing the training and creating posts and sign up with the affiliates you think will help you monetize your website. It will be a good practice and learning experience. Good luck!
Evelyn

Thanks, Evelyn. Can I apply for affiliate marketing that is not relevant to my niche or it should always be related to my niche?

Regards,
Ruth

Hi Ruth,
Triblu has very good recommendations for you about Littlemama. Watch her videos and see how you can apply some of the teachings to your website. Spend the time, it will be worthwhile. I know you are anxious to make sales and that is understandable. You need to add more contents which I am doing myself. When you choose an affiliate check it out first to see if they have products relating to your niche. If they do, then you can select products you can promote on your website and use the right keywords relating to your niche and blog pages, when linking to an affiliate for a product.

Maybe someone can offer a better suggestion. I am no expert on this trade yet but can only think of what makes sense in what you desire to do and maybe stimulate other thoughts in the community.

Evelyn

This is helpful, Evelyn... I understand that we can't make money immediately from blogging (especially when starting from scratch). What I am actually hoping for is to have affiliate links on my posts to boost my confidence and motivation.

I don't know if I am eligible to apply for affiliate programs now since I only have 24 articles on my website.

Ruth

Some of the affiliates require that you should have at least 1000 visitors to your website but not strictly enforcing that policy as long as you have established website and they can see it is an active website. So you can apply and see who approves you. You can get approval by more than one.

Thanks, Sophie.

You're welcome!

Hi there. Is it advisable to use your own Facebook account for your blogs or create a new page for your business?

Thanks.

Ruth

I decided to create a new page for mine. It definitely makes you seem more professional and lends credibility to your growing brand. Hope this helps, Ruth! Good luck! :-)

Thank you, Sara.😊

Ruth,
Apart from a business page on fb, you can also start a group about your area of interest on fb.
Using your own profile is generally not advised as people would think u are selling. And it leads to even friends starting to avoid u.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this.

Cheers!

Definately open a business page as it can be more flexible but also make sure your personal one is configured so its clear what you do and how you help. Jeff's set up is perfect as it links his business to personal but maintains them as separate indentities and its easier to manage that way. Phil

Thank you, Phil. I appreciate your idea.

Regards,
Ruth

I've got a business page attached to my personal account, Ruth! I'm not sure if it is a good thing or not, but that is how I have it set up for now!

Jeff

I see...I might do that too.

Thanks, Jeff.

Your decision, Ruth!

Yes it would be wise to open a business page.

You can do so from your profile top menu, click create and choose page.

Fill in your credentials.

Otherwise you open a facebook business account

Wow! Thanks, Abie for always helping me out with my queries.

I'll surely make a new business page on Facebook.

Cheers!

Hi there. Can anyone please give any suggestion... What's the best pixel (image size) for a blog that can be viewed in laptops and phones without making the photo blurry?

GSC always complain my images are a small size for amp application. I started with 300 px X 200 px which is the minimum requirement. After a few adjustments, now I fixed the image width not less than 520 px and height not less than 250 px. This applies to the images inserted in the content.
For feature image, you can go to Appearance then customize then blog to fix the container size. I use 375 px X 250 px so far get no error from GSC. I do not know where to find the image size fixed by the theme. Is it the same as I mentioned here?
If you use the SMUSH plugin, it can tell you your image is too small or too big.

Thanks, Stephen. I'll check the sizes of the images on my blogs.

Cheers.

Ruth

Do customizer the post and page image size you want in your theme as Tribulu advice. Go Appearance then customizes then layout then blog then post. Set your wanted image size.

Thanks!

That depends on your theme. You can check in Wordpress under dashboard, appearance, customize.

Thanks, Lisa.

You are very welcome

Hey Ruth,

For your theme, you could check under your WordPress Dashboard > Appearance > Customize to see their recommended size of images to use.

Hope you find this helpful.

This is great. Thanks!

thanks. I just set my post and page image size container in the theme. I hope can stop GSC error on image size is too small.

A good theme that is responsive should adjust the images correctly on all devices.

Blurry photos normally happen when you try to make a small image larger. Say for example the image is 200px x 200px and you drag it to a bigger size.

You can make larger images smaller.

I optimize my images before I put them on my website to the following sizes. (I use the GeneratePress theme).

My full-width images have a width of 2000px and my content images (I have a sidebar) have a width of 700px (this is the width I selected for my content).

I hope this makes sense and is helpful.

Thank you so much. This is really helpful.

It's a good idea to first determine the width of the area you want to place the image in.

Hi everyone. I need some help about Meta Tag for my Webiste Home Page. I found the blog of Fleurallen with a video on how to add Meta Tag but when I tried it, I was warned by W

Hey Ruth,

If you are following Kyle's training, and using the All In One SEO pack plugin, you can add your Meta tags in the General Settings. That link starts you on the tutorial's page 3, so you may want to go back and start the tutorial on page 1 so that you understand it from the start.

Only wanted you to see straight away that it is possible to add your Meta tags to the General Settings.

Hope you find this helpful.

Thank you. I have not reached that lesson yet. Still working on my articles to have enough blogs before applying for Google AdSense.

Cheers!

Ruth

Hey Ruth,

Please, do NOT delay in following Kyle's lessons.

Technically, you could wait to apply for Adsense and I would recommend that you do so... for now.

Delaying taking those lessons could hurt your learning by delaying knowledge ...and possibly even cause you to have to go back over the posts you have already written.

When new members try jumping ahead of Kyle's training and do things on their own is exactly how they get themselves into a big mess and then get frustrated and give up.

I don't want you doing that when I know you can do this... but you need to follow Kyle's lessons.

This may also help, Ruth! Jeff

Thank you, Jeff.

You're welcome, Ruth!

Jeff

I use the ad inserted plugin

Thanks, Lisa.

You are very welcome

You will want to use the Headers & Footers plugin or the Ad Inserter plugin, I prefer the latter as it will come in handy further down the line

Thanks, Chrystopher.
