What is Your Learning Style?

Hi Everyone,

We get an abundance of hands-on training materials, videos, classes, webinars, (a high-quality education) as members of the Wealthy Affiliate Network. So, therefore we get to apply this affiliate marketing knowledge to our online businesses. How do you approach WA learning process? What are your unique learning strategy and style? Which one of these styles do you identify with? - Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic or Tactile.

Visual Learners

Visual learners prefer information to be presented in visual format. However, you typically respond well to photos or videos, per se. You and I prefer visual aids such as patterns and shapes. Visual learning helps us develop visual thinking. You understand and retain information visually with:

  • Graphs, images, pictures
  • Arrows, charts, maps
  • Diagrams, symbols

Visual learning helps you manage and achieve your goals. The training videos are a great format for visual learners. The Wealthy Affiliate training is chock-full of everything mentioned above. Did you know that your brain absorbs and synthesizes visual information faster than any other stimuli? Are you a visual learner? Just so you know, WA visuals help you develop all the following skill sets:

  • Grasp new ideas
  • Problem-solving
  • Critical thinking
  • Better decision-making
  • Better understanding

Famous Visual (spatial) Learners:

Albert Einstein, Steven Spielberg, Pablo Picasso, Leonardo da Vinci, Georgia O’Keefe to name a few. FYI - Einstein was a right brain Visual thinker. Also, visual learners are also spatial learners for all you rock scientists, intellects, web developers/designers, and graphic engineers out there.

Auditory

If you are an auditory learner, have no fear. Auditory learners learn by hearing and listening or through verbal communication. You understand things you have heard and are able to grasp the nettle and are able to easily comprehend and apply text accordingly. You store information by the way it sounds, and you have an easier time understanding spoken instructions than written ones. Auditory learners are good at:

  • Explaining ideas out loud
  • Understand changes in voice tone
  • Good at class presentations
  • Learn best by music, video clips, CC and conversations
  • You learn and absorb by listening to the training, lectures, podcasts, audio books

Famous Auditory Learners:

  • Paul McCartney, Ludwig van Beethoven, anyone you know?

Kinesthetic Learners

Kinesthetic (tactile) learning involves physical activity. Kinesthetic learners prefer whole-body movement to process new and difficult information (Wikipedia). They are hands-on learners. The advantage of kinesthetic learners are as follows:

  • Encourages physical activity +
  • Bolsters cognitive, social, emotional development
  • Enhances brain capacity to retain information
  • Develops self-confidence
  • Designing graphics
  • Creative artwork
  • Enjoys problem-solving

Famous Kinesthetic Learners:

  • David Copperfield
  • Michael Jordon
  • Tiger Woods
  • Jim Carey
  • Bruce Lee

Tactile Learners

Tactile learners like to write things down or take notes when learning. They also like to doodle and draw. They enjoy reading books, writing stories, and illustrating what they have learned, as opposed to Kinesthetics who learn best by doing. Tactile learners make up about 5% of the U.S. population (nationalmathfoundation.org).

As you already know, we all have different learning styles. In fact, you may have more than one style or have a combination of styles. For me, I am part visual, part audio with a pinch of tactile. I love the audio-visual training by Kyle. I also make it a point to keep a few notes (my tactile vibe) for reference. This learning style works for me. I’d love to know your learning style.

Your speaking my language when you talk about this. As an ESL teacher the way people learn is very important as we find ways to teach appropriately.
With younger students 5-15 I use a TPR style of teaching or Total Physical Response. Basically you use movement etc to explain language. EG. Flap your arms…fly. To give you an idea.. So that makes it a kinaesthetic approach to teaching……
And yep we can use all this to get our WA affiliate message out there as well.
Believe it or not I had to cut this short…lol..
Thanks
Love this blog

Wow, Zoop

Your students are fortunate to be under your tutelage. That's so amazing how you found your teaching niche.

I will research more about the Total Physical Response. I work with at risk youths and this method will come in handy. This looks like an effective Kinesthetic approach.

You are really an amazing authority as an educator. And you are fluent in two language. Best of both worlds.

Keep me posted.

Rachele

Hi, Rachele

Great post!

We automatically use all four of these learning modalities with a conscious preference for one or more.

I’m very much an auditory and visual learner.

I don’t believe in the right/left brain theory. The way we store and process information is much more complicated than that.

Frank 🎸

Dr. Frank,

I totally agree that we can use all of these learning styles.
Here in the WA platform my auditory/visual styles dominate.

I am going to do my research on the right/left brain theory.
I think we use both sides of the brain. It's a toss-up.

Rachele

Hi, Rachele

Everyone uses every area of their brain but it’s very unlikely that creative vs. analytic storage and processing lateralizes.

Check out some of the PET-CT studies and you’ll see that listening to and especially playing music lights up both sides of the human brain.

Frank 🎸

Absolutely, music is my jam.

Thanks for the intellectual stimuli doc. You remind my of my psychologist, Dr. Sloan. He helped me with my Statistics classes in undergrad.

Thanks! That’s a real compliment, Rachele!

I love statistics! 😎

Frank 🎸

Absolutely, Genuis!

Rock on, Rachele! 🤘 🎸 😎

I use intuition and see solutions in my mind, so I like problem-solving, math is a language to me. I grew up with artists visiting our family, and I am an artist, and really enjoyed living in Kona, Hawaii with all of the galleries and viewing rooms, and the beauty of Hawaii. I make my paintings do the thing they look for in the viewing rooms.
And I aced anatomy and physiology, and the labs.
But WA threw me for a loop because I just did not get it! Maybe I need to talk with BrendaMZ, because I can't see when Jay or someone else is showing stuff, but it's so out of focus.
Is that on purpose, I wonder?
Plus, shortly after I joined WA, I got congestive heart failure, was taken care of by a friend for months and couldn't go home and take care of myself, due to issues with meds and missed what the heck I should have been doing.
So for this WA stuff, I'd say that I am a Pearl-type learner, and do not learn like jump through and just do it!
I need a complete overview, I need to know why? I have to "feel safe" about learning. No pushing or I won't go!
Is this not weird? Believingly, the new format, and friends' encouragement will make The Difference in helping me get out of my own way.
Got any ideas?
Suzay

Suzay,

You would make an excellent engineer. They excel in math, science, and technology. Brenda is a great resource for technical things.

No worries, you will find a learning style that works for you.
If you are good in math, excelled in anatomy and physiology, you will be fine once you tap into your artistic creativities.

By the way Hawaii is paradise. Also, you are an artist, and you are gifted with your very own learning style, it may we advanced and outside the box.

Rachele

Hello Rachelle!
This post confirms to me that I am a combination learner. You've presented thorough information. I know that you have researched and spent time compiling what you discovered. This leads me to what I have been pondering since I started with WA in August. Daily, daily, I get notices of so very many blogs and posts by the same people. I am wondering how in the world are people researching. writing, and operating a WA business simultaneously. In addition to that, are expected to follow people, comment on posts and blogs and do assignments. THEN, it occurred to me that maybe these are people, like you, Rachele, who may already be established. That you are finished training and your business is up, running, and profitable. Tell me. Will I grow up to be like you? I'm really following all the training steps. Thanks for your information, by the way.

Hazel

Hazel,

We are on the same wavelength. I, too, wonder how people are able to comment on blogs, do assignments, researching, writing.

Here's my spin on this:
I know that we are expected to do all of the above. However, my ranking has been going down the rabbit whole, so that is my reason. I was at Top 50 in August of this year. Don't really know how that happened. Anyways, by making a post or returning comments, this is my down time, and it helps me relax and boosts my rank.

I had a thought to stop doing a WA blog, but I really want to help the newbies like myself, get a head start on their affiliate marketing careers.

Also, this is an amazing community to belong to, so I am actually paying-it-forward when I am engaging with all of you amazing affiliates.
Bottom line, it keeps me connected to community.

Rachele

Thank you for this response. I know it is all about balance. Much success as you continue to progress, Rachele!
