Allodoxaphobia - How To Conquer FOPO in 2023
Allodaxaphobia comes from the Greek word “allo” meaning different, “doc” meaning opinion and “phobos” which comes from the God of fear.
People with FOPO live in constant fear of people’s opinion about them. This condition is not new. In fact, it was part of the human condition. Back in the early days, the ancient brain craved societal approval. There was a need to fit in and be and be socially acceptable.
The fear of people’s opinion is easy to detect, whether the individual is at home, work, or abroad. Here’s what FOPO looks and feels like:
- Ignore your own talents, beliefs, and values to conform to what other’s think.
- Teens often have this fear.
- Fear of being ridiculed or rejected.
- Afraid to post or comment on Wealthy Affiliate platform.
Let’s Do Reverse Engineering on FOPO
- Change your narrative
- Rewrite a positive script
- Reset your mindset
- Reiterate positive affirmations
- I am embracing discomfort
- I shut out noise and opinions of others
Establish Positive, Confident-Building Statements :
- I add value to the WA Community
- I trust my abilities and I trust the process
- I have self-awareness on my attributes and what I bring to the tables
- I am developing a strong sense of who I am
- I no longer have fear of other people’s opinions
- I listen to my own internal, moral compass
- I stop worrying about what other people think
Establish Your Personal Philosophy
- When I’m at my best, what beliefs lie just beneath the surface of my thought and actions?
- Who are people that demonstrate characteristics and qualities that are in alignment with mine?
- What are those qualities
- What are your favorite quotes? Your favorite words?
After You Answer These Questions
- Circle the words that stand out to you
- Cross out the ones you don’t
- Then study what’s left
- Come up with a phrase or sentence that aligns with who you are and how you want to live
- Share your draft with a loved one and ask for their input
- Fine tune your philosophy and notice your growth and personality development.
