I'm trying to have downloadable files available on my site, but when i try and upload GPX files to the media library it says this type of file is not allowed. Does anyone have
OK so after much searching and trying different things i finally managed to get it sorted.
If you are having the same issue download the plugin "WP Extra File Types"
Activate the plugin and then in the settings check the very top box "Check only file extensions"
I was then able to upload the GPX file with no issue and have now successfully added a download link that works great
I have 3 converters which might be helpful, although I never heard of GPX files before.

Thanks Loes, i'll give them a try. A GPX file is a GPS route file, my website is based around providing walking routes for people to follow and i would like to make the file for their GPS units available for download

You can do this without adding an extra plugin, just zip the file and upload it in the usual way. It will be faster for your clients to download as well.
Great tip, thanks.
I've started putting up the GPX files and seems to be working ok. The file size is very small, the last one was 800kb so do you think it is worth converting to zip?
Also i was thinking that some smart phones can immediatley add the GPX file to their maps function so it would be easy for someone to download the walking route straight to their phone with no messing about. Would using .zip add an extra unnecessary step?
Appreciate your thoughts

As long as the plugin is working then keep doing what you're doing.
