Hi, I have www.wealthyaffiliate.online - and am wondering if the site content is ok? I do not wish to develop i

Not advisable.

Since you're promoting WA there's no real reason why you can't unless kyle and Carson disagrees. But just like fire said it's that unspoken rule that kinda landed it on shaky ground.

Hi M8!

When I saw this post it brought back memories...I have been involved in trademark disputes in the past, and they can get ugly. Depending on what you plan on doing with the domain, you can get yourself into trouble, or not...

Trademarks are a bit different than domains, but similar...

Here are a couple of my experiences...

Recently...

This "land grabbing concept" is one of the fears we had starting our new online/offline hybrid business...Also why we bought 70 domains starting out forming the business...This based on past trademark disputes as mentioned...

BUT as I told my co-founder, there is no way that you can protect yourself 100%, there are just too many combinations and possible close domain names that others will try to buy and tap into your effort to build a business, once they see you are having success...

Our solution is to outsize them and show the public who WE are, as opposed to any strap-hangers..It is something you have to deal with...But nonetheless not a pleasant thing to have to deal with...

Past Experience...

Another area that has to be considered when operating a business and a brand is protection planning for trademarks...

Once someone gets wind of your effort or sees what you may be doing, they smell opportunity, and they will lock up the trademark for a country or region - Germany and EU are examples here...This happened to us in these regions...

Then later they will try to exploit this trademark to get a huge sum of money for no effort on their part because they own the trademark...Business is so ugly sometimes...

Again, this happened to us...

Depending on the country and trademark laws, litigation results, it can get very hairy...and in our case it did happen that way...It ended well, but at a cost...Time, energy, stress, money, and ill feelings...

This is not a far-fetched thing I speak of, it really is a tactic the vultures use...

Your Domain...

I know you say your interest is benign and you intend on using it for only a landing page, but tread carefuly so that you do not mis-represent what that domain is there for, or you could find yourself in litigation like we did...

In my mind it is the moral thing to do and the easier path to confer with Kyle and Carson before making any moves to use that domain...

I say this only as a result of my experiences, and to save bad feelings on either side...

If they give the go ahead, then cool, and all is well. If not, you may want to reconsider how or if you will use the domain...Just my take - from a guy that has been through this before...

Cheers and best of luck!
Dave : )

I am curious to see what Kyle comes back the second time with. I personally would not use it either for all the same reasons that Fyre pointed out.

I think the address looks misleading personally. It's not the same as the other site that was mentioned which had the word "program" in it. Yours appears as if it is meant to look like it's Wealthy Affiliate. Just my two cents! Let us know what he comes back. Interesting conversation!

If you asked Kyle directly...what did he say?

The fact is...if it's for sale....you can buy it.

That being said though I would never have a domain name with WA in the title.

It's simply not MY brand....it's someone else's.

That's just my opinion though. The whole point of having your own website is to create your own brand...they want to hear what you think, feel and learn and what you have to teach as well.

I'm not being snarky here but, what is the message you are sending to your readers?

I can't really comment on your content as it's only a landing page with a few questions and your affiliate link.

As I read your question again you said you are not going to develop it?

How would people even see the page if you are not developing it?

Just wondering if you have some sort of strategy you are masterminding *smiles*

Hi, thanks. Kyle did say stay away from it as it's not my brand but I'm not sure if he checked it out properly.

I did not mention that it is just a landing page. My strategy would be to use the address on cards to encourage people to check the site out. I just hope I'm not doing the wrong thing - I've emailed Kyle again and will await a response.

Hi. If Kyle said no, then I would not continue to pursue it. :)

Understood.

This a good conversation.

I guess my thinking was just as I wrote below to TechHound and yourself.

Everyone is allowed their thoughts and feelings.

I personally would have asked them before I purchased the domain.

It might not be so much as it is not allowed as a business associate unspoken code of respect.

Again, I'm only stating my opinion but, just to explain my thinking ..using a known learning platform (and so much more) brand such as WA is essentially calling it your own in a way.

When they first get introduced like you did..would you click on that stark black and white page with a couple of questions?

Maybe? You seem like a pretty kind person so maybe you could be a conversion king *smiles*

Better yet...if it was your brand would you allow you to do the same thing?

I'm honestly curious. I know I should be working on my own stuff but, this topic does intrigue me.

I'm curious about the opinion anyone has that is responding to this thread.

: )

Hi Fyre. :) I happen to agree with everything that you have said on this subject. In my opinion, there is definitely that unspoken respect that I would feel when considering a domain as such. We all have our own thoughts here, but at the end of the day, I would not use WA within my own personal domain name because I believe it already has an owner. Again, just my opinion. :)

Thank you for saying so Michelle.

Another amazing part of this community..actual communication and conversations about anything and everything.

I guess this one rang as one that is close to the heart even with the business end behind it : )

Kyle and Carson don't mind. I have wealthyaffiliateprogram.org and have had it for a while. Be aware that this is not the case for other websites (outside of WA) and can get you in trouble if you do it without getting permission.
Best Regards,
Jim

Thank you

TechHound....yes, you have it but, it is virtually empty.

Did you abandon the project?

Just curious really.

I suppose in my head I think it's somewhat disrespectful to my mentors and for people building their own brand to promote WA.

Mind you...I'm NOt saying it's "disrespectful" in general.

All of our training points to creating our own brand.

All a good conversation though : )

Yes, it's just as I am a full time teacher it's so hard with time etc. I literally just wanted it as a landing page without being disrespectful.

I don't maintain it anymore because Kyle suggested I build out my own brand. It got hacked and I decided to move own with another site. My goal with it was more of an insider's view of WA, offering outsiders a glimpse of what is contained within the membership and less about trying to appear as being the brand Wealthy Affiliate.

I totally understand! I absolutely knew you were not being disrespectful : ) Like I said to Michelle..this is a great place that we can feel free to have real and engaging conversations!

I'm currently staying with one of my favorite professors and a dear friend as well and she has 3 boys and is single to boot!

What you are expressing right there...a teacher with no time...who makes an effort to build out a site to help teachers and others in similar situations find a bit more out of life.

I just told this same professor a second ago about the amount of teachers and professors alone I have met here who are utterly exhausted with all the pressures they are faced with.

The redtape, the budget cuts, the time spent working outside the classroom and as you know all too well the list goes on.

That's the kind of website that I would be interested in ; )

I don't see why not, your promoting Wealthy Affiliate. Nothing on your site is leading individuals to WA under false pretenses.

So far - positive! Thanks.

Hi all, probably a very obvious question but I am struggling with it. My header on my homepage www.onlineworkbible.com<

How do you remove a post from your website

Gary's comment is correct. You'll find your answer in the theme customizer.

Hi Ravi. I think the theme that you are using should have a theme customizer menu somewhere in your WordPress admin area.

I am not familiar with the theme that you have chosen but I am guessing that you can customize your layout and indeed remove or change that top header text on your site. Have a look through your WordPress dashboard for a "Clean Journal" admin tab. It may be under settings or appearance.

Hope this helps. If you can't find it please let me know and then we can try something else.

Thanks for your response. Currently, I'm using a theme called clean journal. When I go to customise - the browser simply freezes. I'm stuck to be honest!

It seems as if your browser is conflicting with your theme. If I were you I would try a different theme. You can install a new theme without losing any of the work that you have done on your site. If the new theme also gives you problems then you may need to change or update your internet browser.

Head over to customize, you can either delete the text and write your own; or you can deactivate that specific header so nothing displays in that section of your site.

Did you put your page on the menu, to add a post simple go to your site dashboard, select post on the left hand side and start writing on the left you can save it on draft or publish it when you have done. That's the first time I've seen someone offer to go to a members site to offer assistance. I'm very impressed someone would do that.
