Helpless and Hopeless.

Well, I had some workers through our insurance come do some work this morning. A few days ago our Gyser burst and the plumbers requested another company to open our roof to give them access to reinstall the geyser.

On rival, the plumbers set their material and tools as the roof was being opened I decided to stan outside and keep an eye on things and I also wanted to request the workers to do some work for me. While waiting, the corrugated roof sheets were being crowbarred and pulled off. Instead of being put down to the ground. They were place flat on the roof.

Thankfully it was just one sheet, well, it was two but one slid off. Because it was flat we could not see what was happening but we could hear something coming. One of the men, one in particular, I had a chat with as he came in. He was from my hometown and we spoke about how I had moved towards the city.

He was recovering from a hard night of drinking, at least that is what I thought. As the sound of metal sheet rubbing on the metal sheet when the edge of the roof emerged from the edge of the eve's everything went silent all six men watched as the sheet slid almost in slow-motion, my friend for the morning could also see it but it took him a while to realize what was happening no one said anything as the sheet hit him on the hip bone and he fell to the ground.

Being exposed to movie fiction I thought the worst as he fell to the ground. Silence stirred for a moment longer as he continued to lie there. His colleague approached and asked are you Ok. Yes, he replied while lying there. I approached and asked if he could stand, he replied yea a can but let me just take in the pain.

I could not believe what had happened all I could see was the three faces on the roof, Man on the floor, and two men looking on helplessly. I have never felt so helpless, The roof had nicked him around the top of his ilium, it did not go deep it was a flesh wound and he was not bleeding. I went into the house and offered him some water in a mug. He drank the hole and thanked me.

He then proceeded to work after a little rest and some pain block from the cafe around our neighborhood.

What I can not digest is the level of headlines that were in the air and the silence. when they asked me to fill in the feedback form I was inclined to mention the incident but I thought to myself the foreman dropped those workers and left, surely they would have picked up that the roofs had to be lowered. The plumber did suggest the root be lowered after the incident.

After a while, I gave a two-liner to give a glimpse of what had happened. It could have been worse. I am not even sure if they will attend to him.

He comes to the house to get some glasses to have a drink, He seemed fine as they drove off, I actually went and spoke to him and his co-worker. I made jokes about the incident and he was laughing through it.

I am thankful for how things tuned out.

What are you thankful for today?

Ntlhane, this encounter tells us that anything can happen within a blink of an eye. It also tells us how people do not do risk assessments before a task is done. Reading in between the lines, one of the guys had been drinking the previous night, this tells us not to indulge so much that it affects our work the next day.
Today I am grateful for the gift of life, the gift of children and grandchildren and the gift of a job and a helpful community like WA.

Senanelo, you are an intuitive reader I enjoy seeing that in comments. We should not indulge before work, the poor guy could have been decapitated.

Thank God he is fine.

I'm thankful to have awakened to another day, Ntlhane! I know of a Gentleman who got hit hard by a steel rod on his leg. No visible injury but he died of internal bleeding from a ruptured femoral artery. Hidden injuries can be the deadliest!

Jeff

You should have not told me that I and scared now.

Ntlhane.

No need to be scared, Ntlhane! We must have faith to get us through each new day that we are allowed!

Jeff

Live in faith. I agree my Ambassador,
