What a Mess

Ok it is Thursday, but I did promise to try to do a post before I Jet off (OK Euro Tunnel) to Normandy at the weekend.

A few posts ago I mentioned about trying to be more organized, especially in my daily tasks. Not going too badly, but like all things could be a lot better. However, the reason for the title is my lack of organization in not just the office, but in my note taking.

It is total and utter chaos.

Like us all I take notes when I see good ideas on a WA post, I even file some in a WA file on the PC for future reference. So what is he talking about I hear you say, simply the number of books, both hard back and soft back which I have accumulated over the years. These contain notes from other internet ideas I was involved with, jottings on the train, when I traveled to London more often than I do now.

This is where the books come in, I would wander down the Strand go into the Stationers, come out with a note book, then back to my Hotel to take notes. Usually via research on my laptop or a book I was reading connected with another get rich quick scheme..

Looking for something the other day, it struck me how much more sense it would be if these were all in one place. What if this place was my main PC.

As a result I am spending just a few minutes a day transcribing these notes into a file on the PC, headed "The Business Book". It is hoped that as I do certain sections that I will print them off as a hard copy, this would form additional reading and training to my courses at WA.

In addition, anytime that I needed to refer to something or look it up, guess what they would all be in the same place.

Whilst I think that these training courses at WA are second to none, have found that by reading the notes that I have compiled, just the odd additional gem comes out. Also, the points made in my WA training are also reinforced. Despite that fact that I might have wasted thousands on the reason for these notes, some are quite sensible.

Whilst eventually I will have all these notes in chapters or sections, for now it is a matter of putting them all in one place.

Do appreciate that most of you will already do this, but felt that it was an idea for a quick blog, and could just help someone who like me, as a collection of notes from other sources.

Until I return, which also means that I could be without WA for at least a week.

Take care,

Stuart

I do have a number of notebooks with notes too, that I have taken over the years. I might just do what you suggest. In fact, it goes up on my board as something I must do as I organize myself.

Thanks for sharing the tip.

Awesomeness!
Mojalefa.

My pleasure, glad to be of help.

Good idea... I have a collection of notes as well, I need to organize all this stuff... Otherwise, I can get lost

It has taken me a while to realise just what a mess it was.

Great idea as I seem to have stuff all over the place including hard drives and thumbnail drives. I get started getting organized the next thing I know its out of control and have to start again.

This is why I am trying to sort it all Chris, like you have DVD's and all sorts about.

I put mine into "Notes" on my phone or laptop where I can easily find them using the search facility.
Have a great holiday Stuart, and return refreshed :)

Thanks Chrissie, think that I might need another holiday to recover, looking after the dear old Normandy Vets for a week.

Hope it all goes well :)

Great idea Stuart. I’ve got various notebooks on various topics and am going to start cataloguing them for reference. Your post has re-kindled my motivation.

Thank you

Rick

PS
Enjoy Normandy..

Thanks Rick, glad to be of help, certainly intend to enjoy Normandy.

Hi Stuart, you are right to now keep all your notes in one lace: on your main computer. Well worth your organizational time.

I bookmark my notes under specific folders such as "SEO", "WordPress tutorials", etc.

Hi, I too have a set of files on the pc, where I can transfer emails. This is a more serious mess, but I will get there.

Well done Stuart. Organisation is the key to increased productivity in my opinion. :)

~Mark :)

Thanks Mark

I wish that I had done this. Recently lost all of my stored items. Things that can't be replaced. You might even be able to make an e book out of them and sell the ebook to opportunity seekers.

Hi Bryan,
The ebook did cross my mind in the distant future, when I have done my certification and got this show on the road.
