How do I take my website offline? I searched for this in Wordpress, but their instructions are not applicable to my view. You are supposed to be able to go to a privacy page to

Move your website to a free .siterubix.com domain, so you have record of the content, the you can delete the site. Even doing that, I don't see the benefit of deleting a site or taking it offline.

The benefit is no longer promoting a company or industry that I cannot stand behind. I want to maintain my credibility. The industry or the company may change. I also want the content for my writing portfolio. This is why I don't want to lose my content. You ever see a website that a person should be embarrassed to have due to misinformation? I never want to be put anywhere near that category.

Thank you for your suggestion. Great idea!

I am curious why you wish to take your website offline. Initially the traffic volume is low.

I am no longer moving forward with this site. It is a blog based on my experience as an online ESL teacher promoting opportunities for my audience. My own teaching success dried up two months ago. I can no longer promote this industry when it would be a disservice to my audience. If I wrote another post, it would be "get out while you can!"

I could delete the page from the WA side of things, but I don't want to lose my content. It may be useful for a future writing portfolio.

Is your free steirub.com website available you could have sitesupport copy your site to it. We do that and find it very helpful and then of course easy to access later..

Check the link below. Your editing page should look something like this.

in Wordpress go to top left side of your page above your dashboard link and select "visit site" as you hover over your website address. Once you get on your website page you should be able to select edit page on the top navigation bar. Once you're on the edit page go to the settings icon on your top right side of page and this will allow you to go from public to private/offline for your website.

My problem is that I don't see an "edit page"

There is also no "edit" on the top nav bar. I must have made some custom changes. Thanks for your help!

No problem. Looking at your screen shot. Hover over "Teacher Rachael" and select visit site. This should lead you to the tool bar to edit page.

It just looks like this with no "edit page" option on the tool bar.

Hi

You may to Settings -> Reading

Mark the “Search Engine Visibility” option to disable search engine indexing.

And save changes.

However that's not required, if this is related to a privacy policy you may use the one found in your site content template section.

I have been checking in on the Site Feedback for a week now and each time I go there to review sites and receive credits, it states that there are no sites needing feedback rig

I was wondering the same thing. I have submitted my site weeks ago and never received feedback. So, I am not sure what is going on. I just thought there was no one there to give feedback at the time.

I started going here the past few weeks -

Okay, thank you, I'll check it out!

Sadly, there are more looking to leave feedback than are requesting it. I’ll go make a request right now. If you’re lucky, you’ll see it before it’s gone.

Currently, my home page is just my blog posts from most recent to oldest. I am going to create a separate home page and want to have "Blog" as a separate page. How do I move t

I have a similar question. Same principle. I want my blog posts to be on my home page and my Reviews to be on my 'Review' page. Right now they both are appearing on the home page. I did go to Settings --> Reading and change it to Static page. Nothing happened. What other setting did I miss that is not mentioned here? I've been to blogs that told me how to set a static page and how to set a blog roll, but nothing that has told me how to have posts on my homepage and separate posts on another page I will want to call Reviews. Can anyone tell me how to do this or point me to the right training? Please? Thank you.

Lana

To set up a static page you need to define one under pages and then make that the static page under settings > reading.

I use a magazine-style theme, Envo Magazine, and what I like about it is I can place widgets on the static home page that display articles based on the category I assign them.

I don't know if your theme does that but it's something to look for.

I did that already. (Defined a static page) I made that my static page. Now there are no posts there at all. When I click on Home it gives me an error message saying "that page cannot be found." It lists the old site I was playing around with on siterubix. How can I fix that???

Lana, I ended up having to change my theme page to be able to accomplish what @merlynmac and @smarketeer explained below. It was not very time consuming.

There are so many themes. I don't even know what to look for. I've changed my theme a few times. The theme I clicked on doesn't look the same once it's on my website. There is something in the settings I'm not doing right... :(

Why not have them Reviews under a review Menu Header and a Blog Roll for your Posts

That's how I have it, but still, if the word Home is clicked in the menu a web browser error message is displayed. (That I mentioned earlier.) And everything is still appearing on one page. (not even sure it's the home page. Because as I said if you click on "Home" the error message appears.)

But did you place your Posts under the Menu Header correctly in your Wordpress Menu Section?

Now that I have my own .com do I have to edit there, in Word Press instead of in WA? I've been editing through WA platform.

So, when I put my articles in the menu as a sub-item under the page, it appears in the menu as a drop-down item. However, nothing appears on the page except the category title, "Blog Posts".

Many themes have static home page templates. Create a new page and see if there’s a home or home page template to select. Then go to Settings > Reading and change to a static home page and select the page you created with the template.

Go to Settings => Reading and select static homepage instead of your latest posts (under "Your homepage displays")

My full blog posts show up on my home page. How do I just have a sample displayed with a "see more" button? I think this will be better for visual organization. I have seen oth

smartketeer has you there. That said, the static home page discussed earlier in another question you asked will also address this.

Go to Settings => Reading and change the "For each article in a feed, show" option from Full text to Summary

Perfect. Thank you!
