What Are Keywords Used For And Why Are They Important?

Questions often asked are what are keywords used for and why are they important? I will address and answer both questions. I will also provide examples.

To sum it up in a nutshell, keywords are used to help search engines direct people who search for something to something that is pertinent/relevant to the search. They are important, because they seem to be the best known method for achieving a successful search.

Here are some examples

Before I begin writing anything that will be posted online, because of my training at Wealthy Affiliate, I have learned to do a keyword search that is either directly or indirectly relevant to what I want to write about. I did the same thing before writing what I’m writing now, which is why the title you see which, in this case, is also in the first sentence of the article.

My keyword search resulted in both the title and placing my keyword somewhere in the first paragraph, something else I learned from my WA training. Actually the keyword I am using is the first five words of the title, not the entire title. I am not repeating them here because I don’t want to be guilty of keyword stuffing, something else I learned about from my WA training.

The reason I’m calling this segment of this writing an example is, because, I hope this blog post will be highly ranked, perhaps even on the first page by the end of today. My fingers are crossed.

The other reason is because yesterday I did keyword searches for two articles I wanted to write. One about seniors and running. I’m a senior and I’m a runner. I learned here at WA to write about things I am passionate about and that I know something about. The other was about a program I had a bad experience with.

My keyword searches resulted in using the keywords “beginning running program seniors” and “integrated wealth systems” (recommend integrated wealth systems 100K Challenge). I am attaching links to the keywords. You will see on page 1 in the number 10 position an article with the title “Beginning Running Program Seniors Can Do” and by adding the words “Recommend and 100K Challenge” to the keyword you will see “I Do Not Recommend Integrated Wealth Systems 100K Challenge” on page 1, position 3 in Google.

Both keywords were as per Kyle’s recommendation in the WA training that we should target “low-hanging-fruit” keywords whenever possible—QSR 100 or less.

Here are screenshots of Jaaxy’s site rank as of this writing, which is why I decided to write this blog post for all of WA and anyone on the internet to see.

Doesn’t Always Work

I don’t want to make it seem like this works every time. It doesn’t. However, the times it has worked has been because I followed the formula set forth in the WA training. It’s worked several times for me in the past two and half months since I’ve been back again at WA.

I estimate that it’s happened about 1/3 of the time.

Conversions

The downside, if there is one, is that just because I’m on page 1, does not necessarily mean that readers are flocking to my site and that I’m making lots of money from conversions.

The real lesson here is that there is a process:

  1. 1. Write good content
  2. 2. Get ranked
  3. 3. Build traffic
  4. 4. Convert

I am at the second stage because I did well in stage 1. It gives cause to be happy but it’s not time to celebrate yet.

As far as I know, getting ranked has no cash value and I can’t take it to the bank.

On the other hand, I am on the way to step 3, which will eventually lead me to step 4.

Where I’ve gotten frustrated in my past ventures here at WA, was that I left because I wasn’t making any money to speak of. The question that kind of haunts me, though, is, how much would I have made if I hadn’t left in 2016 and again in 2018? I will never know.

As I write this, I’m still waiting for my first conversion of any kind this time around. Am I anxious? Yes. Am I disappointed? No. I’ve learned to not leave five minutes before the miracle, although it will probably much longer than five minutes. I hope you understand the analogy.

Wrap Up

I hope this addresses and answers the questions that are the title of this post and that the examples are adequate enough to affirm my point.

Meanwhile, I’m already thinking about what to write next.

I invite you to leave questions and comments. I will respond in a timely manner.

Thank you for clarifying the subject of key words. I did not understand at first!

Keep plugging away at it. You will start to gain momentum if you don't drop the ball. Welcome back again.

Thanks, I won't drop the ball this time. Glad to be back.
