Some Success But Still A Little Confused About Keywords

I think the title of the post, "Some Success But Still A Little Confused About Keywords" is an accurate overview for this post. Isn't that what keywords are SUPPOSED to be about, Google and other seach engine rankings notwithstanding?

When I first began this adventure in website building, content writing, and affiliate marketing etc. (this is my third tim joining WA since 2015), I had no idea what a keyword was/is, other than what I just said what I thought they are SUPPOSED to be.

As an English teacher who teaches writing, in the classroom, we call what I thought a keyword is, a title. I guess they're similar but not exactly the same thing, considering, the Google ranking factor.

Much of the time, when I write content here, my main focus is about how to get what I'm about to write ranked, and finding a way to say what I really want to say around what the keyword is so it'll get ranked.

After joining WA the first time around in 2015, I finally began to understand what a keyword is,their importance and I've written pretty much all my content around keywords I've found in Jaaxy.

Sometimes I've acually had success, being ranked on the first page, and every once in a while, the number one spot.

My Current Confusion

I'll begin with my current mental logjam.

If I locate a low-hanging fruit keyword, for example "healthy eating seniors" and I write content with a title "healthy eating seniors tend to live longer" (this actually happened), what I'm confused about is, am I still able to rank for the original keyword (in this case "healthy eating seniors) after writing content with a title that contains that keyword or do I only have a chance to rank for the original keyword if I use exactly as it is?

I hope that makes sense.

I ask because, quite often I get ranked on the first page using the longer version (in this case, "healthy eating seniors tend to live longer), but I can't remember ever being ranked for the orignal keyword (healthy eating seniors).

Keep in mind, I wrote the article only a month ago. I understand it sometimes takes time. According to what it says in the WA website manager, my site a level of trust of only 10%.

By the way, the long version, that is the actual title of one of my posts is ranked on page one in both Bing (4th spot) and Yahoo (3rd spot) but not ranked at all in Google. Also, the orginal keyword (healthy eating seniors) isn't ranked anywhere in any of the search engines.

I hope that all makes sense too.

In any case, it's cool to see content ranked highly, regardless, which leads me to the other part of the title of this post.

My Most Recent Success Story

Two days ago (Saturday, January 25th), I wrote a scathing review of a company (feel free to read the review. It's long). The original keyword I researched is "Integrated Wealth Systems", a company owned by Loral Langemeier. The actual title of the review is "Why You Should Avoid Integrated Wealth Systems-A Review"

I also made a YouTube video with the same title, which is embedded in the review.

As I write this, the review is ranked in Google on page 1 in the 5th spot and the video is right behind it in the 6th spot.

BTW, it's the first time that's happened, that both an article of mine and a video end up on page 1 anywhere.

I hope it results in some WA referrals, none yet, but we'll see.

Anyway, the original keyword (Integrated Wealth Systems) is not ranked at all.

My question is, do I have a shot at the original keyword being ranked?

I hope so.

I look forward to whatever comments/insight those in the know can provide.

Thanks.

We only know the best practices for keywords and SEO. Each search engine has it's own algorithm and therefore performs the ranking differently. Competitive keywords are difficult to rank. Best to keep searching for good long tail keywords. If you are ranking, you are doing something right!

Thanks Stanley

I am not sure about this at all but I must say congrats to you on the hard work so far and the site rankings. Adding to the site can only help improve the odds of better rankings. I hope that you can keep on doing it and killing as you have been so far.
All the best
Douglas

Here is how I see this. "healthy eating seniors tend to live longer" is a statement, so ask yourself how many people will search with such a phrase. Its traffic and searches are next to none.

On the other hand "healthy eating seniors" as it is, is competitive and you will hardly rank with it. But for search engines this is the same as "healthy eating for seniors" because they ignore the stop word "for", and this phrase itself is much more competitive. So it will be hard to rank with this in any case.

I completely understand your query Robert, unfortunately I'm not equipped to give you the answer. SEO remains a mystery to me, just when I think I get it, something else stumps me!

I do find the question intriguing though, it's a fair one, in theory, you should be able to rank for the lessor keyword given the content remains the same as the longer keyword, but I do not know...

I hope you get some clarity around this and apologies that I cannot be of any real help.

Fantastic result btw on your rankings, that is a great achievement, you should be very proud!

All the best to you, Jules
