My Wealthy Affiliate Login Is Where It Began; Then What?

I’d been stumbling around online for about three years, trying to make a name for myself online, determined to make a living via the internet. I’d wasted thousand$ of dollar$ on a worthless program that I believed would take me to the promised land. Then one day in March, 2015 I stumbled upon Wealthy Affiliate.

I was initially attracted by the free trial offer. Once I decided to proceed, the first thing I needed to do was to create my Wealthy Affiliate Login, which after providing an e mail address, included me choosing a user name and password.

I was shocked to learn that I was not required to provide any payment information, that it was truly a commitment-free, seven-day trial.

That Is Where It Began—Then What?

I was overwhelmed by all that was available to me, although I really had no idea what it all meant or how it would all help me and be useful to me.

I just knew I liked the way it looked and felt.

I also knew that I needed to make a decision about whether or not to stay. Would I spend the $19 for the first month or was all of this too good to be true and is there a hook that has not yet been revealed?

I figured it was worth $19 to find out. I went premium on the sixth day of the seven-day trial.

The Honeymoon

I was in love! I had found what I was looking for! It was only a matter of time before I’d be raking in the dough! I couldn’t wait to get through the entire program!

However, from the beginning, I was stumped about some things:

  • What is a niche?
  • What’s the difference between a target market and a niche?
  • What’s my niche?
  • Who is my target market?
  • What can I do to make money right away?

I figured these answers would reveal themselves sooner or later and decided not to worry too much about those things, just go along with the program.

I was really impressed with Kyle’s down-to-earth, simple yet thorough approach.

I figured that with all the people in the community I could ask for help, including Kyle, I’d figure out or receive all the answers to what stumped me in little or no time.

My First Niche

From what I learned, I was told that my niche should be something I’m passionate about.

I’m passionate about wanting to make money online! That’s it! My niche would be making money online!

I liked the way Kyle presented material and how he would make a point of saying we should gently suggest Wealthy Affiliate in our blog posts and other writings.

I’m not really interested in being a pushy salesman.

The name of the website for my niche would simply be Make Money Online No Selling dot com

The More Websites, The Better—Right?

I should mention that prior to becoming a member at Wealthy Affiliate (WA), I had been trying to establish myself online as a life insurance agent. However, I resisted calling myself a life insurance agent because of the stigma of its name.

No one can trust a life insurance agent, right? People avoid talking to anyone with the name insurance associated with them, right?

During the fruitless time I’d spend prior to joining WA, I had been trying to develop a different identity rather than being thought of simply as an insurance agent.

I’d come up with what I called the 5 F’s:

  • Food
  • Fitness
  • Finances
  • Fulfillment
  • Fun

All of these were/are things I was and am passionate about.

My thought was to create what I call(ed) A Bulletproof Life, a concept based on the 5 F’s.

Brilliant, right?

I thought so.

In any case, I had already incorporated my “business”. The name of the “corporation” was A Bulletproof Life Inc.

Never mind that I had made not even one cent using that name.

The name of my first website at WA was A Bulletproof Life Inc dot com

I wasn’t going to waste all the time, energy, and money I had invested in the concept and name. Therefore, it would be the name of my first WA website.

I should also mention that I’m passionate about rock and roll music, especially the classic rock genre. Rock on!

Within two or three months I had an impressive collection of websites:

  • A Bulletproof Life Inc dot com
  • Make Money Online No Selling dot com
  • The 5 Fs A Bulletproof Life dot com
  • Rock N Roll Forever dot com

Later there were others but I won’t mention them here and now.

What Was My Focus?

Clearly, my focus was to make money online, lots of it. I would start by promoting WA and apply the principles, concepts, and techniques etc. that I was learning at WA and apply that knowledge to all the other websites.

I chose the boot camp as the one I’d complete first, although I’d actually already started with the certification classes.

Ah, the heck with it, I thought, I’ll do both at the same time.

How Much Money Did I Make?

After about eight months of spending nearly every day listening to tutorials and writing massive amounts of actually quality content, I’d made a little money.

I had a few conversions, people who joined WA based on my content and links.

The bottom line is, I hadn’t made enough to even cover the cost of my premium WA annual membership.

I’d made enough to buy an occasional lunch.

The bottom line is, when I joined WA I was broke and a little in debt. By the end of 2015, nine months after joining, I was still broke, much deeper in debt, my credit rating had tumbled, and was driving for Uber and Lyft to make ends meet.

I’d put all my hopes, dreams, and energy into WA and had used up all my good credit in doing so.

The Outcome And Where I Am Now

Before I write another word, let me make it clear that I don’t fault WA for the fact that I did not and still haven’t made any money to speak of. If blame is even to be considered, it should be and is placed squarely on my shoulders.

I could write volumes about this and many other things in my life and one day I may do just that.

After my annual membership expired, I paid monthly for a few months before letting my premium membership completely expire. I did not renew any of my websites. I spent the next couple of years, up to October, 2017 getting back on my feet and stabilizing my finances.

I still believe in WA.

They will provide the knowledge and the tools to succeed to the same extent that a university provides knowledge and tools to students.

On the other hand, it’s up to us as individuals to utilize the knowledge and tools in a way that will result in financial success. I’ve not yet found that.

I returned in October, 2017 and paid for annual membership. It’s the best deal anywhere! Also, I could/can afford it.

It’s only been recently, within the last few weeks that I actually have come to understand what a niche is and the difference between a niche and a target market. It’s not that the information wasn’t presented to me. I just didn’t get it.

It was through a blog post like this one, written by another member who succinctly and thoroughly explained the concept of a niche that I finally got it.

I now have three websites that are hosted at WA

When I returned I believed I was clear about the direction I wanted to head. However, after finally learning what a niche is, I’m more than a little confused.

There are so many niches I’m somewhat interested in. I’m really not clear what I want to do or how the best way is to go about it.

I’m still very interested in making money online, particularly through affiliate marketing. I’m just not sure if that’s the best path for me to focus on.

Although, I’ve tried to be altruistic from the outset back in 2015, I now realize how over-bearing I’ve been in my approach to “suggestive selling”.

I want to be helpful. I want to be an expert. I want to make money as the result. .

Let Me Sum It Up And Conclude

My Wealthy Affiliate Login has provided me with a wealth of information. In fact, I’d say, so much information, I have trouble processing it and putting it all in its proper place.

I’ve had and I’m having difficulty focusing on just one idea/concept, mastering it, profiting from it, and scaling from there. My mind is always racing with ideas and I have to constantly reel myself in and keep myself from making some, if not many of the same mistakes I’ve already made.

The main difference between this time as a WA member and my previous time is that although I still want to make money online and believe I eventually will find a way or ways to do that, this time I will and am trying to absorb it all in a more meaningful way. Last time, I was always in a rush to make money.

It happens when it’s supposed to happen.

I’m enjoying the process this time instead of trying to force the results.

Oh yeah, I also have regular income this time. I'm not putting all my energy and time into WA. I'm doing it in my spare time. I returned to my chosen career of teaching, and doing some occasional mystery shopping. My life is much more structured this time than it was when I first joined in 2015.

Another key difference, that I realized only the other day when watching Kyle do the weekly WAbinar in place of Jay was/is that I’ve spent a lot of time telling and trying to convince people about my expertise rather than allowing people to decide that for themselves.

Kyle does an excellent job of showing his expertise and allowing others to decide that for themselves, rather than him boasting about it.

The bottom line is, I’ve learned a lot yet I have a lot to learn.

hey hi Bob -- well said -- elegant blog post you've written! ...

appreciate you sharing your experience with us here at WA ....

thanks kindly for your insights .... cheerio-o .... :)

*(note: if you're wondering of how i got here -- the computer keys must have made a jump or quantum leap ! ... lol ... ),

Thanks, nice to hear from you.

Hi, Bob. Welcome back. I am still fairly new, having joined in November. I can relate to some of your comments, especially being overwhelmed with the amount of information available. I wanted to learn everything at once and get going on making the moola. But I'm still on lesson 6 of course 2 of the certification courses. A wise mentor suggested that I complete this first before tackling bootcamp, and I am very grateful for that advice.

Although my progress is slower than I would like because I'm not very computer literate, I am plugging along. Was excited to learn how to put images on my website the other night, but it wasn't as easy for me as it looked like from Kyle's video. I'm going to have to watch it again and try to follow the steps exactly this time. I'm a compulsive note taker, and was busy writing when I should have been watching which buttons Kyle was using to get things to work.

Best wishes for a successful, prosperous 2018.

Carol

Thanks for your comments Carol. Let me know if I can help. Pictures/images are an easy/simple process.

BTW, if you just joined in November, you're not slow.

Bob

Thanks, Bob. Guess it just seems slow because I'm impatient to get on with it!

I love how you've put this blog together, Robert, and I believe a lot here can relate to it. The overwhelming amount of knowledge you can lay your hands on as a starter. The understanding of what a "niche" is and how to implement that on a website that actually brings in the money.

Kyle does give us the correct guidance, but we do not always follow that guidance to the letter.

He did tell me, for instance, that is would be unwise to get multiple websites, it would splinter-up the results, but stubborn as I am, I ignored his wisdom, and I have 7 websites up, but not running, I love them all to pieces, and that's what they are, fragmented and not quite that successful when we talk about bringing in money.

So I decided to let 5 of them go into a winter sleep, perhaps occasionally place a blog when it's convenient for the niche and only work on 2 of them in 2018

Thanks for your comments. I'm glad you can relate. I hope others will as well.

Bob
