Sorry Carson, only noticed your reply there. When I have it on passive I'm not able to see the file structure. I've played around with the options like "use server's external IP address" but every change causes me to lose the file structure. It's like there's only the one configuration that allows me to see anything but that configuration doesn't allow me to upload. I agree it's probably a firewall issue and I've set my firewall to allow incoming and outgoing connections for filezilla but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.

Now it seems I'm having an all together different problem. I've just installed Filezilla and I discovered from WA blogs that I had to change to active mode to view the directory structure and files. I can copy files from my site to my desktop, but going the other way doesn't seem to work. Every time I try and upload a file either by drag/drop or 'upload' in the context menu I'm getting:

Response: 200 PORT command successful
Command: STOR test.txt
Response: 550 test.txt: Permission denied
Error: Critical file transfer error

Do you reckon you've any ideas with this one or should I start a new thread?

It could be that you have the Protocol or Encryption settings incorrect in your filezilla connection settings.

Check out Welshy's Tutorial to see if your settings match FTP & FileZilla - Connecting to domain via FTP If no success post another question and see if anyone else has the same experience.

Yes it could be a possibility, might be worth checking your firewall logs to see if there was any traffic being blocked.

However you had established the connection. The STOR command is the final one in the upload process. Could you perhaps have had the file that you might have been replacing open somewhere else. so the file was locked.

Just noticed this reply, sorry caraid. Yeah, I'd created a simple text file for the purposes of testing so I know it was closed when I closed notepad. I've scanned around google and I'm pretty sure it's firewall/port related but just can't seem to nail it. The only seeting that allow me to see the file structure at all don't let me upload. I'll stick with it though because I'm never 100% happy with the wordpress themes and it would be useful to upload replacements for some of the pages as well as the sync i was originally trying to figure..
