Hey all,

So recently I have experienced a lot of drop in rankings for many of my posts. A lot of my posts were on pages 2 & 3 of Google, but now many of them have b

There are so many different factors that go into top rankings as well as ever changing algorithms on google that can cause a site to drop.

In some cases it will come back. But the most common things that you need to make sure of are as follows:

Is your focus keyword or phrase used in the meta keyword, meta description?

Do you have an h1 tag that contains the focus keyword or phrase.

Do you use a linking strategy to get good links to each post using that focus keyword and phrase.

What is the authority of your site in the area of your keyword.

Does your site continually put out good content on the topic.

These are basic there are other rules such as how many times your keyword / phrase are used. Do you link to other posts on your site.

One of the best tools besides those we user here is SEM Rush. It's not cheap but offers great advice on getting and keeping your sites ranked high.

Personally I think that above everything else if you continually put out good content on a frequent basis your site will almost always outperform the competition.

Google is not about finding one or two articles on your site that are great they are about where can I send my searchers so they can get the most amount of good content about the topic.

Once you become that authority site you will be unstoppable.

Hope this helps,
- Glen B

Thank you for the feedback Glen. What do you mean in using a linking strategy? I link to other posts on my site with my articles, or are you referring to something different?

Also, I have been using Yoast SEO to follow as a guideline for each one of my posts. Are you familiar with this plug in? Would you recommend that Yoast SEO is a good guideline to follow or is SEO Rush something better?

My site has been up and running for about 8 months or so now with around 60 posts with over 1,000 words. I know gaining authority may take some time as well.

I appreciate all the help and any recommendations you may have,

Thank you,

Paul

Hi Paul,

I use the Yoast Plugin as well. I use it as a general guide to setting each of my posts.

SEM Rush takes it to the 10X level and offers other very good keyword research tools. As well as SEO guidelines and ideas.

A linking strategy is one where you get links back to your site from other authority sites. It's really good if you can get these links but beware of any systems that automate this process.

look for high ranking sites where you can get those people to link back to a post on your site each one of these links is a backlink and can add authority to your site.

It doesn't just have to be high ranking sites but the higher the better.

In the old days people could get away with joining linking farms and building massive links but it wasn't long before the search engines caught on to this and began looking closer. So this is why I say be careful to only get good links and not use a service.

So 60 posts is a good start but people here on WA have said that about 300 - 400 posts is where things get really exciting.

I would set a strategy such as this.

Make a new post every day. If your time doesn't allow for that then set a schedule for yourself and keep to it. I say one everyday because you will reach critical mass by this time next year.

Do good keyword research and find keywords that you can rank for. Jaxxy will work fine for this.

If you can get SEM Rush use it to help in your post rankings. It will analyze and help you improve your posts. Don't let this keep you from posting everyday.

The most important thing I told you above is massive content. This is what makes an authority site. Google and all the search engines will give you a lot more love when you are constantly pumping out good content.

We as marketers often get too caught up in the minute details. When in fact it's really easy it just takes consistency and time.

Thank you Glen,

I will look more into a linking strategy and see if I can incorporate that in a good way with my site. Yes, I enjoy having a guideline to follow for each post to make sure I catch everything. SEO Rush sounds like something worth looking into as well so I will have to check that out.

Thank you for the feedback on the consistency and authority. I have been doing around 3 posts a week, but am going to set a goal to post one each day. Hopefully this will help create a good authoritative site with quality content that will help eventually bring in more traffic.

Thank you for all the feedback and help. Very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Paul

there may have been an update on nov 22 - poss reversal of your money or your life update

Thank you for the feedback! Yes it may be another update. Hoping to get my posts back on track.

Thank you,

Paul

It is likely an update. That has caused your posts to drop. However I still stick with my advice as it's what I know works.
