My First Amazon Check - Bummer!

This should have been a success post, but things didn't turn out that way, unfortunately. I just received my first Amazon check, but it turns out I can't cash it.

My banking institution refuses to honor my check. It took me close to one hour to explain (in broken Arabic) that the check was from Amazon.

"Amazon? We not know Amazon check here. No, no, no. Bank not accept, not accept. Sorry," the assistant tried to explain in English.

I can't say they didn't try to help. After a couple of phone calls to other bank personnel, the branch manager came to see what was causing the commotion. They even called the central branch to inquire on my behalf. But it was a NO.

So, here I am...stuck with my first Amazon check. What next? Maybe try another bank with the hope that they can accept a "check from Amazon" as they called it?

UPDATE: I was able to have Amazon cancel my check. I updated my Payoneer account on June 6 and was able to set up a virtual US bank account. Amazon and ShareASale transfer my commissions directly to my virtual bank account, and I can withdraw the funds from Payoneer to my local bank account.

Sorry to hear that Princila, it's a bummer for sure. Your post title got my attention.

I would find another bank right away, your bank should have been able to take care of it for you!

Although they tried, they should have tried harder.

Watch, now they will get more customers coming in with Amazon cheques who will dump them for not helping ;)

Congratulations on your first payment! :D

Keep us posted!

Thanks, Patsy.
It's really a pity they don't accept Amazon checks. I'm now looking for another bank that will accept this check. If I don't find any, I'll have to use Payoneer.
Will keep you posted.

Just a note on that. I tried many banks in Greece. The local banks can't do anything about it and it's not them that cause the problem. It's a universal law issued by the United States in order to control the flow of US Dollars. I have done some research on it and that's where it led me.

Oh! I just saw your response. If that's the case, then other local banks won't accept the payment. The bank manager gave me the impression that I could try the services of a competitor and might get lucky. Thanks a lot!

You are welcome.

Is Payoneer like one of those places where you can cash cheques but pay a fee? If it is, at least you will be able to cash it.

You could apply for a pahoneer card you will receive it within a month submit the card information to Amazon they put your money on it You cy use it from any part of the world where you are at.

Thanks, Dorcas. I'm also looking into the Payoneer option.

You don't need a card from Payoneer. You just do that with the Payment Service and virtual bank account they provide. Their Master Card comes with some hefty fees for transactions so I decided not to use it. Be careful on that!

Sorry, that must be so frustrating for you.
I'd totally find a new bank. What about an international bank such as HSBC?

Thanks, Phil.
I'm considering all possible options, including opening an account with another bank or using Payoneer. I've got to find a solution if I wish to survive in this business.

Wow im shocked. There must be bank that will accept your check, good luck to you I hope you find them with ease

Thanks, Mark.

Tell your bank their services are no longer required and that you have replaced them :-)
Cheers
Rich

LOL. They asked me to try their competitor just across the street...that I might get lucky with them.

:-0)

If your bank accepts US cheques, then it should accept this 'amazon cheque'. It's no different from other American cheques right?. If not, find a bank that does accept USA cheques and open an account with them.
Ultimately Payoneer is the better option, but you will lose this cheque if you don't get it done in a bank.

They accept US checks but don't accept "Amazon checks". I'm not even sure what that's supposed to mean.
I'm still looking into the Payoneer option, but I still have to figure out how to cash this check.

Essentially it is just a US check from amazon. Really strange they wont accept it if they accept other US checks.

As I said above. Ask the amazon reps to cancel and reissue the cheque as balance in your account. Then use Payoneer to get paid!

Have you tried Payoneer? I see that Payoneer works in Saudi Arabia. But, you should first contact and confirm it with Payoneer and them open an account with them.

I'm still looking into this option. I hope it works out.

Congrats! =) Have you tried looking into opening an online bank account? You can then add the banking information into your Amazon (and other affiliate) account and have those checks deposited electronically.

I did a lot of research on this, but it seems persons living in Saudi were no longer authorized to do that after the 911 attack. I'm still looking into the possibility of having a US bank account via Payoneer. I hope Saudi Arabia is not blacklisted.

That's a bummer. What Dana said, have you tried contacting Amazon or looked at the Amazon website to see what banks will accept Amazon?

I didn't think about this. Now that you mention it, I'll check to see whether they specified any banks that will accept their checks.

Have you tried contacting Amazon to see if they know what banks accept their checks?

No, I didn't even think this would be an issue. I've sent checks to Canada via my banking institution, so I didn't imagine receiving checks from abroad would be a problem.
