I have just been watching the selecting your Niche video that has been created in he starter program.

I have always wanted to do a site that promotes educational toys

Sounds like a great niche to get into. Go for it and let us know when it's up and running so we can see it.

personally, i'd do them separately Ruth.
Have a great day
Joseph

That is what I was thinking! My mind is filling with ideas, need to space them out ;) Thanks very much Joseph!

I run into the same dilemma, so many related ideas, should I or shouldn't I?
I actually gave your question a lot of thought, before answering. Both topics are so closely related.
Being that you are selling educational toys, you also could have a section on developing motor skills or other, and how a certain toy really helps.
You could even have a forum going, discussing what toys are best for reading skills, or motor skills., etc...
Sorry if I'm confusing you again ;))

It's morning here, I'm still on my first coffee ;)), however, after tossing your question around, personally I might attempt at blending the two in some way. It would for sure give guests or visitors the impression of knowledge and authority, which in turn might convert to more sales.
What you think Ruth?

I was thinking of creating a short rundown with a specific product of the day or week, for example, and listing the skills that toy helps develop and how. Underneath that providing a list of toys that help develop the same skills so I am not commenting on every toy (which would be an overload - and time consuming!)
Then I thought when the traffic increases, offering a suggestion page from customers and I can research, prepare a page/blog on that suggestion or question that links to another site where the information can be found. (I hope that makes sense!!)
Eventually I may be able to provide links within that blog back to suggested products that I have already created..
I think I need to write out a flowchart!! As I was typing more things popped into my head ;)

I think we are thinking on the same path! As I read your comment I realised you were writing what I was thinking!

Yes!!!
I think you're definitely on the right track with both your thinking and you're site. You most certainly got a winner.
I Love how you're bringing it together.
Can't wait to see ;))

Thanks Joseph - is great being able to get the thoughts out in the open and know it makes sense to others!

Enjoy your morning coffee and the day ahead, we are heading into early evening and it is getting chilly ;)

Thanks Ruth, Much appreciated.

Hi Ruth
I think they are different pages on the one website. Create posts on different toys on one page and advice on the other. Great original idea with awesome capacity to create content
Regards David

Hi David, Thanks for the insight! As I am just now setting up my first website through WA I am ironing out what I want to do. Your response is why I posted in the first place! I had the same thought. My only additional thought was size. Although I know there is no real limitation to number of pages, if my site becomes quite successful I was worried I may find it difficult to have so many sub pages? Have you come across this, or is the Wordpress set up user friendly enough that I will be able to maintain it quite easily!?

Hi Ruth
I feel you should address this problem when you get to it That is when you have to choose what to archive or delete. By then you will know what content has created the greatest number of links and given good ranking.Pages tend not to change too much and posts change all the time.
Choose a theme that addresses your concern. Posts or pages that rank poorly should be archived if you have too much content.
Regards

Thanks David. As I am just starting to set up my first site I am going to focus on the product side first anyway. You are right, as I get developing I am sure I will be able to work on what will be starting to develop as too much! Thanks for your advice ;)

Hi Ruth,
I work with a blackboard. I write all my ideas down, especially those you are mentioning, as to direct the flow to where I want it to go. I don't leave these important details as an afterthought. Personally, I like to develop a framework ;))
Have a great day

I have pen and paper at the moment and will probably do a bit of a storyboard for my site. I have done website development before but not factoring keywords and search results in as a necessity (I developed the design more than content previously)! I like to have something physical in front of me to follow as well. I find things get out of hand too quickly if I don't ;)

I'm the same ;))
