Run Your Own Race

When I was driving today, a Land Cruiser V8 overtook me from the wrong side and sped off to join the road ahead. The driver seemed to be on bad rush and didn't seem patient at all.

In front of the Land Cruiser was a Marcedes Benz whose owner couldn't take the challenge of being overtaken just like that. Both drivers tried to proof each other wrong on the road as they accelerated their brand new machines as if in a safari rally.

I just followed from a distance as the two cars vanished in the horizon but to my amazement, I found both cars stuck at an intersection waiting for lights to turn green. We all waited there until even the slowest cars arrived before the lights went green.

As we waited, I kept on wondering to myself, why we're these two guys in such a hurry only to be held up in traffic lights? What was the need for such a competition? Did they find out the winner? Where they all going to the same destination?

From this I came up with lessons: -

1. Don't run other people's race. You do neither know where they are coming from nor their destination. Stick to yourown race.

2. Do not rush to finish something because others are doing it. They may doing it wrong.

3. Don’t look down on yourself because you may not seem performing like others. Work diligently and eventually you will get to the finishing line.

4. Slow but sure wins the race. Aim higher in performance not. In building your business, it's not about speed but doing things right.

5. We don't compete in WA, we assist each other in all ways possible for a common goal.

Hope this makes sense.

With blessings

Paul.

Great reminder Paul. Sometimes we forget we each have our own race to run. We're not competing against each other but we should build each other up.

This is also what the author of Hebrews is saying in Hebrews 12:1-3. Let us run the race marked out for us ...

Those are very strong words of wisdom. We all should be reminded each day to run our own race as we uplift and build each other towards a common goal. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing the great insights you thought about after witnessing this event. I'm glad what you observed did not end in a tragedy.

I didn't speed up like they did, I just followed from a distance. Of course I was on time and had no reason to rush.

I have seen something like this also and like your lessons from it!

I think it happens many times.

Nice truck to run your race.

Absolutely

I have seen this, in a modified way many times on the roads of America. My thoughts did not go the way yours did, Paul, so thank you for the translation!

Just to think beyond what we see everyday. Thank you Mickeyb

Alllright, my man

It's great this didn't segue into running the light and running a road rage Paul as often happens!

Sometimes I think it's because of toad rage Mike.

I was just thinking this as I was finishing my latest post. I was telling myself to not look at anyone else with envy, or compete with them, and to make goals and meet them and measure my success that way. Although I'd like to have the success others have had, I know they worked hard to get where they are and I want that same level of performance and endurance for myself. I am so inspired on WA. So thank you!!

There's always the temptation to do it because others are doing it. If not careful this can lead to lose of focus so it's better to go at your own pace.
