I would like to have the freedom to add my own images such as a logo or creative designs in area of my website.
Logo generally goes in the header , you can add that by going to your WordPress dashboard ------->Appearance---------> Customize .
from the customize you will find something like site title and tag lines , here you have an option to upload a logo.

An other thing , you can add featured images . You edit a page normally , then in the right side on the bottom you will find a blue writing "add featured image " click on it an choose an image from your media , then update the page .
You can play on the customization of your theme to show the featured image on your page at the top or to hide it .
