People Also Bought...

Despite my recent rant What Do You Think of Upsells, I'm a firm believer in giving your buyer the opportunity to buy something else.

Upsells and downsells are difficult to implement with affiliate products, unless you create your own pack as described in How to Create Your Own Product (even though you're an affiliate marketer) and accept all the extra work this requires.

But there's another way.

An easier way.

Let's say you've got an affiliate product and you can come up with two related products, such that each adds value to the other. An example could be a skin care product that reduces wrinkles, a supplement that replaces lost collagen and another skin care product that relieves redness and chapping.

In a burst of inspiration, let's call them Products A, B and C.

You create a landing page for Product A that pre-sells the product and contains your affiliate link. You want your product to be tightly focused, so the landing page doesn't contain your menu, but your affiliate vendor's page is set to open in a new tab, so that your landing page isn't lost.

You do the same for each of the other two products.

At the bottom of Product A's landing page, you have:

People who bought this product also bought Product B and Product C.

And, of course, these link to their respective landing pages.

Similarly, Product B's landing page has:

People who bought this product also bought Product A and Product C.

Whereas Product C's landing page has:

People who bought this product also bought Product A and Product B.

You will, of course, have separate promotional blog posts for each product separately. That's how you drive organic traffic.

But this little bit of extra work will increase your sales of all three products.

That's what ClickFunnels is for or other funnel builders. I know I can be costly for some people. A landing page can be built free some use different builders like Elementor or Beaver Builder.

I’ve been playing around with many funnel builders during the trial period, then canceled because I can't afford them. It gives me ideas on how it works.

Even free landing pages have their limits compared to the paid version of funnel builders for landing pages.

The idea you have is fantastic. Amazon does that for physical products. For digital products, there will be like two other boxes for a digital product similar to the original (looks like a check box with a yellow background like a coupon with dotted lines). Those are forms of upsells as well.

Jay did training on how to build a landing page. There are several tools to create landing pages without any added cost.

What have you used to build a landing page or a sales funnel? I am curious.

Your conversion rates with doing the product A, B, and C?

Have you done split testing on which sells better?

Thanks, Brenda. If you have your own products and can control where the purchaser is directed after payment, building a funnel is easy without ClickFunnels or anything else.

I use Thrive Architect to build my landing pages. However, you can use the normal page builder. By definition, a landing page is just a page that pre-sells the product, contains your affiliate link and is directed to by a blog post (organic traffic) or an advertisement (paid traffic). You are directing visitors to LAND on it, instead of your home page.

Often, it doesn't include your menu, so that a visitor's only choice is to take the desired action or leave, but that's a function, not a definition.

Thrive Architect contains several landing page template sets.

I didn't think the concept was complex enough to require split testing, but I could be wrong.

About 1 in 3 purchasers of one product also get one of the others and a small handful buy all three.

Great article, Phil! Thank you!

Glad you found it useful, Tami.

And yet another great idea, Phil. Thank you again!

This one's fairly easy to implement and has no downside.

Sounds like a good plan, and not too difficult to set up.

Alex

That's exactly right, Alex. If you can create a landing page, you're good to go.

Don't mind the work when it drives traffic | and produces results. Exceptional reverse engineering processes in marketing. Way to go. May I ask what's with the tissues?

Ha! It was just that toilet paper comes to mind when thinking about "people also bought" at least in the supermarket.

Still got masses in stock plus other things post-pandemic, we sometimes hoard. Appreciate the feedback.

Just don't hoard your strawberries. Best eaten fresh.
