I Failed at Affiliate Marketing until I Found Wealthy Affiliate

Last Update: March 20, 2019

Affiliate Marketing Failure

Over the years, I'd tried affiliate marketing many times.

No plan, of course. No goals set, no to-do list.

Just throw a website together. Dreamweaver at first, then how much easier when WordPress came along and started to become the go-to CMS (Content Management System). Funny how it started off just as a personal blogging platform (did you know that blog is short for Web log?) and then evolved into the influential powerhouse that it is today. Creating WordPress plugins is an industry in its own right.

Anyway, I didn't have any plan, really. Would just hunt up ClickBank for suitable product and link to them. Later on, added JVZoo and Warrior+ to the mix.

Back then, Amazon was only just evolving from being an online bookstore that was yet to make a profit. I don't think it had any affiliate links. There was a build your own bookstore plan but it was pretty complex.

And I certainly knew nothing about finding private affiliate programs.

No Plan Just Shiny Pebbles

So, like I said, no plan.

Which is probably why I bought so many products designed to get easy traffic or high rankings or whatever the latest bright, shiny pebble was.

Successes? I had a few, but like Mr Sinatra sang (he was talking about regrets) "too few to mention." And certainly not enough to cover all the costs.

Then Along Came WA

Wealthy Affiliate was my saviour.

It's different in so many ways, but to me the two most important were:

  1. Most schemes over-promise and under-deliver. You quickly become disillusioned and quit. Wealthy Affiliate is the reverse. It under-promises and over-delivers. It told me I could expect results in 6-12 months, but I'm seeing them in 3.
  2. The Wealthy Affiliate training provides the plan that I've always been missing. It's a clear step-by-step approach that ensures that everything is not only done right, but in the right order. I have a supplier who pays me $120 if a customer buys a $65 product through my link. That's a crazy good deal, right? The do it because they are looking at the long-term value of an on-going customer. BUT... I never would have got that deal if I hadn't been able to present them with a good looking website in their niche first. And that website was built totally by following Kyle's training at Wealthy Affiliate.

Wealthy Affiliate Works

So I'm saying to everyone, the Wealthy Affiliate system works!

It's the best methodology around.

It won't teach you to get rich quick, but nothing else will either.

It will teach you how to achieve your goals.

All you need is dedication and patience.

Feel free to drop a link in the chat box, Phil, cure our curiosity lol.

There are so many folks lost in the wilderness and I dare say that many folks have an inbox overflowing with new offers and they just keep coming,

Is it newbie friendly, of course, it is my grandmother was making money by lunchtime on the first day of firing that baby up.

Not happening never did and that elusive button hasn't been invented yet.

Like you say coming into contact with a well set out step by step plan can make all the difference and when combined with top of the range resources it is a winning combination.

I think there will be more than a few who agree with your insights.

Thank you for sharing Phil! :)

I just became a premium member about 30 days ago (was non premium for a week before taking the leap) and I am loving it so far. Very easy and clear plans, lessons, and to do lists. I have a great feeling and know that if I follow the training I will see results. WA and the community keep it exciting and engaging making me want to do more! Here’s to being with WA for a long time to come!

Cheers!

Thank you, Phil, for this great article! So T R U E for me too, only not in the online arena. Network person-to-person marketing, and I never had enough successes to make it work. Didn't have a solid plan either, as you pointed out!

So grateful to have found WA and this AWEsome community of marketers!
Cheers!

Hi Phil,
What a great testimony! We too looked at the bright and shiny "come-ons" and all we got was a much-lowered bank account.

Wealthy affiliate is by far the best platform for affiliate marketing and just plan great information source in many areas of the internet.

We will always be grateful to WA.

Awesome phil. My experience with Internet marketing has been similar.

The first ebook I ever purchased was from "the rich jerk" back in 2005 and then products from Frank Kern.

Had successes here and there but nothing substantial.

What I was really lacking was a sense of community and that's what WA has given me more than any other program.

The comradery alone makes WA worth it.

Gosh, I remember The Rich Jerk too. WA's one step at a time is so much better.

Yes, I have had the same experience as I am sure many others. The challenge has always been moving forward. Although I have to say I did make a whole $1.84 through Google Ads on one of my blogs. Now that I am going through the training I expect to make more money while sharing knowledge with others.

I really believe that WA is the best platform to meet the challenge moving forward. I'm sure the $1.84 is a sign of good things to come.

Wow Phil, such a great testimony from a guy that has been around for that many years...
It really is the best step-by-step method of success!
It goes to show that this platform has what it takes to get someone out of the "rat race" and be part of the top 5% instead 🙂

Hi, Phil. My online history is about the same as yours although I have not had any commissions yet I am getting traffic and website click throughs.
I remember those days when Amazon just sold books. There was another site called Jungle that sold electronic goods and CDs online. Amazon bought them out and the rest is history.
Best wishes,
Steve.

Great post as usual Phil. You're dead right, patience pays off. It took my website about 4 months to start getting some decent impressions from Google and the curve is consistently growing now.

My page position in search is still mainly quite low, but again improving slowly.

I took quite some time to put a blog post together (with aff links) for a launch happening tomorrow. It was indexed within a day and has some nice P1 positioning right now.

Bottom line, I'll either make a few bob over the next couple of days or nothing at all! I'm not too concerned to be honest, longer term I can see where this is going...

It's clear that you "get it" Les and will be successful. Great work getting indexed and ranked ahead of the launch.

I can relate, I grabbed many a shiny pebble with dollar signs attached to them before coming to WA. I was quite happy when I found WA and discovered it's the real deal. Plus I get to talk with people from all over the world and that I think is awesome.
Great Post Phil.

Great read thanks Phil, and after trying for 3 years to get this Affiliate marketing right, I couldn't agree with you more.
No more chasing shiny objects for me, or listening to the next latest self proclaimed Guru, or spending large sums of money on programs that overcharge and under deliver.
My main regret is that I did not give Wealthy Affiliate a go when I first joined, instead I jumped from one opportunity to the next.
I am here now, goals and plan in place and working through this amazing training and loving every minute of it.
I believe your success will continue to grow,

I so totally agree, Avril, it's all here.

My commiserations for the awful events in Christchurch.

There's a meme doing the rounds here at the moment, supposedly a poll on preferred Prime Minister (we have an election coming up soon).

It has Scott Morrison 5%, Bill Shorten 5% and...

Jacinta Ardern 90%

You can be very proud of her!

I'm lucky in that WA was my first stop when I first heard about affiliate marketing.

I did a lot of window shopping, but never actually bought into any programs until I stumbled upon WA.

The program certainly does over-deliver. Now, I just need to focus on the training and stop swiveling my head at every shiny object that comes into my peripheral vision.

Great post, Phil. As usual!

Be well, be wealthy,
Joe

Really inspiring and so true! What an incredible place. I am already way more ahead than in 6 years of floating around with no clear plan and with the help of the affiliates I am simply pushing through the hurdles!

Creating the website looks a bit like Quabtum Physics but i am sure that I just need to keep playing with it and taking action!

Nice article once again! It inspired me to knock it out the park today!

This is really good to hear from a new member. Thankyou for a great article! I totally get that I need to put in the work and learning.... and I'm really enjoying this aspect.
I have looked peripherally at affiliate marketing for a while, and other internet endeavours too. I'm so glad I found WA! It is the whole approach here that works so well...the step by step, not too overwhelming lessons, and the warm community base. It sells itself really. I don't get the impression that the owners, Kyle and Carson, have to over exert themselves in any way to convince people of its value.
The free trial does that.

I can relate to this and agree that WA does provide a good platform to build your own authority blog, with.

I have combined it with my own lead system which has more training designed to help you attract the right people to you and in itself is a powerful combination

Apply the training together with focus and yes big money comes, but not without work

Thanks for sharing and well done
Reply
phil1944 Premium
It's definitely not a platform for those who don't want to put the effort in.
Reply
davehayes Premium
No that its not, hard work is required to get things set up and to showcase your authority in your chosen niche, but once that is done, then the leads should start coming to you and income appearing.

It was a reason I chose this platform, because knowing that all business owners only own 2 things, the first being our list, the second the blog & having the first already, other hosts were causing me great hardship, well not just me but others who use this platform too and have similar experiences, so having a self hosted blog here, means you can showcase your authority without wondering if it will go down

Hi Phil,
It’s going a bit slowly for my liking to be honest. My day job is quite full on right now so I’m not getting the dedicated time I’d like to devote to my online business. But that’s life right now and I’m doing what I can when I can! I got 2 posts done on the weekend and I’m hoping for another 2 this weekend.
I’m still loving thrive and haven’t looked back since I bought that.
How are you doing Phil? Sounds like you’re going great guns.
Reply
phil1944 Premium
It must be so hard balancing all this with a day job. I sympathize.

I don't have that issue and still feel I'm spread far too thin.

Perseverance and patience will get us there.

Funny how easy it is to forget where Amazon came from or that Google was an oddly named search engine. Absolutely right though Phil, it's all laid out for you without the false promises that never fulfil.
Reply
phil1944 Premium
People scorned Amazon because it was unprofitable. But Jeff Bezos was a man with a vision and all the profit was ploughed back into realizing that vision. Google introduced a completely new paradigm that was universally embraced.

You're so right about the way WA lays it out for you.
