This Blog Post Got to Position 2 Inside 24 Hours
No, not a Google search result.
I'm talking about my Wealthy Affiliate blog post (click on its name below to see it; it will open in a new window).
Now, there's no two ways about it.
That headline was clickbait.
Which worked.
The post got 56 likes and 78 comments (including one from Kyle) and went rapidly to #2 in the Top 10 Blogs.
Not all the comments were supportive (and you're welcome to check them out).
Some people were upset that they'd been "tricked" and others felt that death was not something to be treated with humor.
And that's fine.
It was meant to be provocative and it worked.
Which is the whole point.
When you are building an online business, the initial object of your blog post or email is to get the click.
You are more likely to achieve this with a controversial headline or subject that appeals to a person's desire to "close the loop".
But, and this is really important, when they click you must in fact close the loop by explaining or otherwise addressing the headline.
Preferably with something that makes them smile or nod their head in appreciation.
Your chance of getting the sale has then increased exponentially.
If it's a mailout to your list, will some unsubscribe?
Yes, absolutely.
But that's a good thing.
They are in fact cleaning your list for you.
They were never gonna buy anyway.

I enjoyed your post. I did not feel as if I had been tricked, your strategy was a success. It was indeed clickbait, but when you read the post it was explained. That proves one of my theories that people only skim the headlines, that is why we need to make them attention-getting. This increases the number of views.
