An Introduction

I'd like to post a little about my niche and my history within these niches. It's a good way to get to know a little about me, understand where I am coming from and my motivations for starting my own online business.

I came to WA already knowing what kind of things I wanted to build a website and blog around. I am a crochet artist and an ESL teacher and I want to form two (separate) sites to encompass these two passions.

I tried selling my crochet items on Etsy and a few other, less well-known, websites, but made so little money I could only take my spouse out for a nice dinner. (I'd love to rant about Etsy, but this is not the place.) My second attempt is making a blog, where I discuss different things crochet. I have set up a free blog on Wordpress which can be viewed here: https://crochetfauxchet.wordpress.com/ I realize that for success, one is supposed to buy a domain, but I just can't justify the cost right now when my family earns so little and yet has so many financial responsibilities. When I've earned a little money through marketing/selling/anything blog related, then I will spring for a personalized blog domain.

My second idea is still just in the rumination phase. I teach ESL online to students, who primarily live in Japan. This comes from my history in languages (I love languages), getting my Bachelors in Linguistics and then teaching abroad for a year. I want to build a website to sell study materials for those wanting something a little bit different. I have several things written, but again, I need a domain which costs money. For now, I am just going to continue developing my ideas and sales materials while I continue researching websites, domains, website construction and, most important, how to make money from my website, both by selling and affiliate marketing.

As I've mentioned in my profile, I haven't had much success in the past on much of anything really. I have to admit that I'm a little scared to try again.

Well, trying not so much, but failing is what I'm afraid of.

I realize that being afraid of failure is considered ridiculous and all of the successful people in the world tell us that to accomplish anything, you can't be afraid of failure. However, I think only people who were rich prior to their success or those who had financial backing ever said that. When you are poor, failing can mean the end of everything, and can crush not only your hope but also your life, if you've poured all of your resources into your dream.

So, here I go again, with try number I've-lost-count. I'm hoping to fill in the gaps of my marketing knowledge here on WA. Hopefully I will learn a lot more too, and this will be a first step on a Successful journey.

Wish me luck!

Thanks for sharing Tracy! I totally understand where you are coming from. There are many successful businessmen in Asia who started out poor. (Alibaba's Jack Ma) Let's not lose hope and persevere. :)
Wishing you best of luck!
