What are your goals commitments and why?

I was out walking with my dogs this morning and I realised that not a day passes by that I have not walked the dogs. It is one of the things I love doing, seeing the beautiful scenery and it also gives me time to think. I certainly don’t make excuses because the weather isn’t great (put on a jacket...), the dogs need exercise so in the words of Nike - ‘just do it’.

Today I was thinking why everyone joins and stays with Wealthy Affiliate. Why is it that I don’t write an article and work on myself every day in the same way. Is it because I feel more responsibility to my dogs than to myself. What can we do to do create that long term focus. I do quite a lot of driving with my various day jobs and I listen to a lot of audiobooks. Tony Robbins asks - find your Why. Everyone has dreams and fears. Finding your purpose in life and making that your mission is certainly easier said than done.

Personally I am very blessed, I have a wonderful wife and 3 great children. It is a real awkward balance though trying to keep them all happy, fulfilled and often you know you want to do everything for everyone but it’s simply impossible. I’m sure it was Jim Rohn who said ‘I’ve interviewed and spoken to many people at the last stages of their life’s and not one of them has said I wish I’d spent a few more hours in the office’. I know this is a little morbid for a wonderful day, however it does focus the mind.

So why are we here, we want to learn and succeed. We want to achieve the goals we have set. We want to create a better life for our friends and family- and I know we can all do it as part of this great community.

If anyone has any personal development or goal setting books they have read, please feel free to share in the comments below.

All the best

Peter, I have been learning about mindset, particularly growth mindset, a concept developed by Dr. Carol Dweck. It is about the idea that we can grow our brain's capacity to learn and to solve problems. Dr. Dweck Carol Dweck is a pioneering researcher in the field of motivation, why people succeed (or don't) and how to foster success.

Glen,
Thank you for the recommendation, I’ve just downloaded it into my audible account and look forward to listening to it.
All the best

Hi Peter
Thank you for this blog, great timing for me to read it - just last night I sat with a huge sketch pad and made lists of what needs to be done and then whittled down to what is truly important and started with those to reorganise my daily habits.
This may sound cliche but the Good Book is my number one go to, just this morning I was reading about "be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged" - what great way to start the day!
Other than that, the most recent "self-help" book I read was "The Slight Edge" by Jeff Olson, all about "Turning Simple Disciplines Into Massive Success & Happiness". A brilliant read and great motivator too.
Blessings
Louise

Louise,
Jeff Olsen is terrific. The Good Book - is that AC Grayling? I had a search on google and had never heard of it, looks interesting.
Many thanks
Peter

Hi Peter
It's the Bible ☺️
Only a pleasure.
Blessings
Louise

Louise,
I apologise and excuse my ignorance 🤪, have a look at the AC Grayling book also- obviously not taking anything away from the Bible.
Thanks
Peter

People will say mind set is important! The real situation is there are always something to distract you or discourage you to keep on your track!

For myself, how to remain in a positive attitude is important! As there are always negative emotion around you! Staying positive with my mind set and why ready is how to keep myself in the long run!

Your post is inspiring and thank you for sharing Peter!

Eric

Eric,
Thanks for the kind words. I think you are correct about staying on track.
All the best

Nice post, Peter!

One of the people I've been reading/listening to lately is Mel Robbins. Her Mindset Reset program helped me get back on track. You can find it on her website. It's free!

Suzanne,
Mel Robbins mindset reset was for 35 days starting on 27Dec, it is possibly on YouTube. Incidentally her website looks incredible-love the layout and content.
Many thanks
Peter

Hey Peter!
Yes, you can find them on YouTube. If you sign up on her site, you'll get the daily emails that go with each video. There's a lot of good info in the emails.
Best,
Suzanne
