Popular Pin on Pinterest - a Surprise Result
Hey guys,
A bit of a quick one today. I have been putting a little bit of work into Pinterest lately with some promising results. My pins are starting to gain popularity and I am slowly building followers. This is not as easy for me as it is for some as I have the artistic flair of a doorknob but thanks to my lovely wife, I manage to get something that looks passable up most times.
The other day though, I was in a hurry and wanted to get something up there before we went away for a few days camping where I would not have my laptop with me. Nic (my wife) was not home and I had to pack the car so I just put something together real quick and literally shoved it up there as I was closing my laptop lid.
I did however make sure that the keywords were there, the 'Jay special' Meta description was there and all other 'rules' were followed.
The pin
What did it look like? I have attached it below. The only difference is that I have removed my site name and logo in the interests of not breaking SPAM rules here. The logo was at the top and was also black with white writing.
It is so plain and black and white and I had it on my list to update and repost when I got back.
Then the notifications started
I got back from my trip and hadn't actually got around to updating it. And before I could, the notifications started from Pinterest... "your pin is hotting up"... "You have a popular pin".
I just clicked over it and thought that it was good that I was getting noticed as the account is only about a month old. But then I looked.
3rd most popular pin - 36 views
2nd most popular pin - 43 views
This pin - the one above - the plain old one above - 886 views!
I couldn't believe it!
Where am I headed with all of this?
Sometimes, you just do not know what will be popular - like posts, some that you think will smash it will get one reader and his dog. Another, one that you may have written as a rank builder - you know - the ones you write that are a little less interesting but packed with amazing keywords - the ones you put just a little less effort into - go nutso with comments and views.
It is a funny game this one - you never know what is going to rank and what it not - as long as you are consistently putting quality content out there and following your keyword and SEO rules, then everything has a chance to rank and get traffic.
Now, off to art school I go...

Congrats, Paul! Your pin stands out. Being dark with white text makes it stand out in the Pinterest sea of color. The ad copy is really cool.
Well done, Paul. You have inspired me to perhaps take Pinterest a bit more seriously.
Best wishes,
Steve.
Nice one Paul. Must admit my creative skills cause me to struggle drawing a stick man!!!! so I empathise.
Great work though. We are also starting to see traction from Pinterest. Up to 7k monthly uniques now so all good in the hood as our kids would say!!
Great progress!
Social network are sometimes a little complicated
to understand, but they are real engine for
our blogs.
Have a nice day!

Way to go, Paul, I have to agree with you some days there can be no rhyme or reason to it, one of the cool things is that even for folks like me that are not that good at the creative aspects of this online journey, with a little consistency just about anything is possible.
Thanks for sharing and all the best as you continue to create those engaging pins.
