M.A.J - Impossible Goals - Why they are good

Hey guys, It is late Friday night here and, continuing on My Affiliate Journey (M.A.J), I have just published a post and was then doing what I usually do about once a week - go into incognito mode and just do some searching... Yep we live it up real big on a Friday night here in the land down under!

And for the first time ever, one of my posts (number 29 of 33 in total so far) was on page 1 of google (ranked 10), Bing (2) and Yahoo (2) - this is backed up by Jaaxy.

About time!! I called my wife over from the couch - well I woke her up and waited patiently whilst she worked out where she was and then stumbled over to see what was going on... She was excited... hahaha. But then we celebrated our milestone and she went to bed. I must admit I sat here for a few minutes in sheer relief - relief that all of my hard work in the past 4 months was starting to see results - Finally!

This then took me back to a podcast I was listening to earlier this week by a lady called Brooke Castillo. She was talking about impossible goals and how they are good - as long as we believe them. It was quite long so I will try and keep it brief - mostly because if not I will fall asleep half-way through and dribble on my keyboard...

Basically she was saying three things;

1. We have to be brave enough to set ourselves impossible dreams. Mine is to make 1,000,000 in affiliate sales by the time I turn 55 (I am 48). But the crunch here is that we have to have an unshakable belief that we can and will do it.

2. We have to remember that even though we may not see results straight away, we must develop a plan that IS BEST FOR US RIGHT NOW that moves us forward every single day and stick with it - even when we fail or something does not work. Not if, but when! Things can change, and plans can change - especially in this game where we are constantly learning new things and entities like Facebook and Google change the goal posts. But then we adapt and move forward again with the next thing that is best for us right now!

3. And this is the important thing - we have to believe that by doing those little things each day to move forward we will reach our goals. She used a diet analogy. She said that say you wanted to lose 50 pounds and before you went to lunch one day you weighed yourself. Then at lunch you had a salad instead of a creamy pasta and then went home and weighed yourself again. You will not have lost weight in that time frame but you have to believe that it will happen if you stick to it and not just give up because you think it is not working.

This is exactly what affiliate marketing is all about in my opinion. We write blog after blog and nothing really appears to be happening. We get disheartened (I know I have) - We try and change course - Last week was going to drop my niche page and start promoting WA - which I will do (I will get to Vegas) but my first site is not ready. We have to stick to what we are doing and believe.

To get to my million dollar goal - At the moment I am trying to post three posts with videos and update 3 old posts with videos per week. All whilst running a couple of other offline businesses with my amazing wife.

And then, all of a sudden, one of my posts ranks! All of those seemingly useless steps have started to show a little fruit. The next one may not rank, but we have to keep moving forward with what is best for us "at this time" and impossible goals are not impossible.

Thanks for listening and good night!

Paul

Hi Paul, I am so pleased your persistence has finally been rewarded. Your journey is far from over I can see that and I wish you well in achieving your final goal.

Thanks Mate - appreciated

That transition from thinking that maybe this stuff works to actually seeing that this stuff works can be the break through that there is no going back from.

Best wishes as you expand your results Paul.

Thanks Alex

Good for you Paul!
Thanks for sharing your motivation.

Setting goals is a key ingredient to success.

Paul, we harvest what we sow. We plant our garden, fertilize and water... and wait. Online marketing very similar. We write content, maybe make a video, upload to our websites... and wait.
The point is Rome wasn't built in a day and neither are websites, online businesses, etc. The busier we stay at adding content, marketing on social media, commenting on other blogs, the more we build our brand. You are a great example of how to stay committed to your business. Thank you for sharing.
Ken

Thanks Ken, that's what I love about this business, it is hard work but you get the rewards for persistence.

Thanks for the post. Great goals.

Well done Paul, brilliant result :)

I’ve been living it up big this Friday night too ... checking stats and tweaking campaigns. Ahh the life of a high flying affiliate marketer hey!

Great post, you have made me rethink my impossible goals.

Thanks Heidi - appreciate the comments and yes, Friday nights seem to be made for websites - Until the football starts again maybe ;-p

That's exactly how it happens. I was sitting in church the morning I got my first sale and I could barely keep myself together. Ironic thing was, the message that week was about waiting on God and that things happen on his time not ours. Yes I still played attention to the pastor even though I was overcome with joy.

Congratulations on your achievements!

Keep it up!

To your tremendous success!

Bob

Thanks Bob
