5 Tips to Write and Publish 5+ Posts Per Week

Hey guys,

Hope you are all safe and well. I wanted to touch base with you quickly today based on a discussion I had within this forum with another member a few days ago. I mentioned that I set myself a target at the beginning of every month to write and publish 20 posts to my website over that time frame - i.e. write and publish 20 posts in 30 days. He commented that he struggles to get half that many out even though he has plenty of time or work on it.

This is a common problem that I see people talk about regularly within WA. Especially those with newer sites that are not yet making enough money to outsource writing work. Focus is on the more posts that they can get out, the quicker they start to rank. It can be overwhelming I know and probably one of the main reasons that many affiliate marketers fall by the wayside.

I generally get about 5 hours a day to work on my site - which sounds a lot but once you factor all of those little things that are needed to keep a website running along it really doesn't leave as much time as I would like - not to mention when you add all of the other things that life throws at us (wife, kids, traditional business etc....).

So how do I do it? Here are the 5 things I do to make sure I can get my 5 posts out weekly:

1. Know what you write

This sounds funny, but a lot of my time-wasting behaviours in the past centred on the fact that I actually wasn't clear on what I am writing about. This was not necessarily the subject itself, rather than the types of posts to write. In my case, seeing that my site is based on the WA affiliate program, I write:

  • Software reviews
  • Affiliate program lists
  • MLM reviews
  • How to sell xxx online posts
  • How to do 'stuff' for affiliate marketing (such as this post)

So for me, I try to write at least one of each per week. Not only does it allow me to know what is coming next, but it also gives me some variation each day so that I don't fall asleep from boredom writing the same thing time after time.

And finally, to assist with this, I look for a subject/niche to write about (fashion, sports, boats, sewing etc.) and then try and stick to that subject for the week. This just helps with research and makes it easier for me to write as my head is in that subject.

2. Create Templates/Swipes

This was a huge time saver for me in that as I write each of the above post types, there is obviously similarity between them in that it is really only the subject that changes. I now have some good templates for each of my post types which provide my baseline as I move forward.

Essentially (and I can't think of another way to write this) with each posts I write I am just plagiarising my own work from post to post. Obviously I need to make sure my proofreading and research is up to speed so I don't become lazy and miss things but this really does save me so much time.

Now, some of you will probably ask here about duplication and SEO. My research and comments from some of the long term marketers in here lead me to believe that duplication will not be counted if it is within your own site - yes, there is some info out there to the contrary to this - happy to discuss below - but I have not found too much in terms of penalisation from the Search Engines here.

That said, I do re save my templates every so often just so I am updating new work instead of constantly rehashing the old stuff.

3. Set up a routine

This is advice that you will find in just about any business coaching in that one of the most important elements to success is planning. This can be described in many ways such as time blocking, or setting a routine but it has really helped me get everything done.

As I mentioned above, working on websites has quite a bit to it such as

  • Social media
  • Email and comment responses
  • Analytics and keyword analysis
  • Email lists and autoresponder work
  • Shooting videos
  • Refreshing old posts

Now how this has helped me is that I am someone who often thinks about it all at once and can easily get distracted trying to do a few things at the one time. So, this is what I do:

First hour

  • Review analytics and add keywords where required
  • Check emails and respond
  • Respond to WA referrals (i.e. my referral customers)
  • Shoot videos

2nd to 5th hours

Write - that's it, just write

If I have time, I then try and spend an hour or so at night once the little one is in bed to play around with social media, update posts, and just 'review' my site.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

4. Just write

This was a big one for me and comes in 2 parts:

The first is to just write how you speak. I used to write a bit and then spend time reviewing and editing before I wrote the rest. This led to a lot of writer's block or inability to 'word' the posts correctly. It was actually another WA blog that helped me here (sorry, I can';t find it but think it might have been Benji's dad who wrote it) when he said to just write it like you talk it.

That's what I do now - I simply just open up and write as if I am talking. This didn't work straight away but after a little while - I found my editing time and need to reword became less and less and I was writing more and more.

The second part here is to write every day - even if just for 10 minutes... After all, that is 10 minutes less that you need to do the next day. Again, this will keep things moving and help with your targets.

5. Take a day off

Now this one probably goes a little against the previous tip however, again for me, this has been key. Taking a day off - even if you are not at your target - will refresh you and allow you to write a lot more on the days that you are working. For me it is usually a Saturday as my son does parkour in the mornings, then Jay's live training if I can get back in time and then I go and watch the local soccer team in the afternoons - which often results in dinner at the pub.

The day off give me three things:

1. A day off

2. Time for my brain to work through anything that I have been stuck on

3. Time to work out my subjects for the next week - i.e. I watch a guy ride a bike and then write about the bike niche all week.

And that's it

So, that's what I do - some will work for some and some not for others so I guess at the end of the day it is all about doing whatever works best for you. Play music or write in silence (I put sports replays on my screen), write in 15 minute blocks instead, sit outside in the sun or in a nice busy cafe... There is no right and wrong I believe and at the end of the day, this is a fun way to make a living so enjoy it too.

What works for you?

Paul

These are all excellent tips. I'm currently on a mission to write 100 posts in 4 months, and every single thing you mention is crucial.

Thank you , sometimes I get stuck, most helpfully.

These are great suggestions that I will have to utilize.

Thanks for this post! 😀
