What is a PAGE and what is a POST?
What is a PAGE and what is a POST?
Hi guys and Galls these are two terms that confuse people right at the start so I have seen a few question on this and will explain with my simple explanation OK
A Page
Imagine you have a book and on the first page you have a list of contents of the items in your book - Right?
Imagine your website is a book - well actually your website is an electronic book!
In your book you have a page called "about me" and you know it is there because you looked at the list of contents
So with your website you have a MENU which contains a list of the pages in your website and sure enough you have a page called "about me"
Now in your book you look on the list of contents and see there is a page called "contact" and on this page is written all your contact details
So with your website you also look on the menu and see that you have a page that is called "contact" and when you look you will see written down all your contact details.
In your book a PAGE is an item that contains information. In your website a PAGE is an item which contains information. These pages stay in your book or you website and they do not go anywhere!
A Post
When you write a letter to your loved one what do you do? In the older days you would take this letter and put it in an envelope, fix a stamp and put it in the post office and so you would post this letter to you loved one and it would be send by "Snail Mail" as we say. But today you take this letter and send it electronically to you loved one via email but you have still "posted" it online
A post is something that you have written (Information) and you want to send it or POST it to you loved one or in fact to anyone, anywhere in the world. And because of technology you are able to POST this information to many people at the same time.
Can you post a page
Let us imagine that you want to tell many people all over the world "about you" so how could this be done?
One way would be to make an electronic copy of your "about me" page and send it electronically via email to everyone you know. But that only reaches a few people and you want to send it to everyone in the world right and thus is why we have a website!
I hope that this has shown you the difference between a page and a post
Paul

Great explanation Paul and soon we won't need post boxes or stamps as everyone will send everything electronically. xx
