Hi Abie & AJ.
Thank you for responding. Maybe I will send a support ticket.

I do everything that's mentioned in the link you sent me and often the message goes away, only to return a few weeks later.

It's one of those annoying things that turns into a vampire on the available time to work on my sites.

Take care.

Paul

No worries, hope you get it sorted sooner.

Kindly let us know how you get on.

Hi everybody.

Any recommendations for plugins to back up a website including images?

Thanks

Paul

I've heard good things about Updraft. There are plenty to choose from. A lot of people also use All in 1 WP Migration as well.Whichever one you choose, take a backup and try to restore it on a test site so that you know you it works and you won't lose anything if your site goes belly up for some reason.

Thanks Jay.
I’ll take a look and try on a test site like you suggest.
Much appreciated
Paul

Updraft gets my vote.

Mark

Thanks Mark

Good to know. Thanks.

As Rob says and I agree backup buddy

Cheers mate. I’ll check it out.

I'd like to add php hook codes to make changes on my website.

I understand the principle of hook codes (i.e to add functionality to pages and posts etc).

However, I

Let the technology people answer this one and hear they are.

Tried and True

Elaine

If you use a child theme you can safely edit the php files of your theme in any way you want.
But you have no access to the core php files of the server installation. Unless you host your own web server you will not have such access anywhere, no matter where you host.
Hooks are not a native php functionality and normally you will find plugins that can perform the wanted functionality without having to mess with code.

That makes sense. I am using a child theme. However my issue is learning how to apply the code in order to make the desired change on a particular page.
For example. I want to remove a section from the home page which is easily done within the customiser settings by switching it off, but then apply it within a different page using the hook code supplied.
I just can’t work out where to apply the code to make the section appear.
Very frustrating LoL.
Cheers.
Paul

There is no access to php on this site. This can only be done with a site that has full cpanel access, which is not available here at WA. This is strictly a WP site.

Many thanks for your advice on that one.
Paul

@onmyownterms. Further to your kind advice, it’s a site that I’m building out for a friend’s new business and I’m looking to showcase this one so I can build sites for other small businesses or new starters.
Would you say that possibly WA isn’t the best platform for this in terms of flexibility and access?
I was considering building client sites outside of WA so they have control over their content once it’s built.
Thanks.
Paul

That's a business decision, and I don't weigh in on other people's business decisions. I will say that I have built client sites on here in the past, but those clients had given me 100% control over the entire site. Also, to host here, you should be the one that owns the domain name, not the client. WA pays for hosting 25 of YOUR domains. Consider these factors when making your decision, but other than that, I have no opinion.

Many thanks.
Appreciated

I would like to host client websites on Siterubix, but can I give them access to add blog posts or pages without giving full access?

Thanks
Paul

Other people host client websites here but for the reasons JHaugland has stated I wouldn't do it.

They would be able to access the website through example.com/wp-admin

Thanks Marion

The client should have access so not on site Rubix. You can build the website and host for them. That is my understanding, I hope I'm giving you correct information.

Tried and True

Elaine

That seems to be the consensus.
Thanks.
Paul

No. Your client would need to have a membership.

Thanks Fran

Paul

I am not quite sure if it's allowed or not.
But if it's allowed I would not, from a business perspective, host client sites anywhere where I am "responsible" for access and uptime for the client.
If for some reason, you are not able to stay WA Premium, all your clients will have to migrate, and they may hold you responsible for the related costs.

I have built websites for clients for many years, and I have always made sure that the clients are the legal owners of the domains and have access to their own websites if for some reason I should become unavailable.

If a client can afford to hire somebody to build a website, they can afford hosting as well.
So maybe better to refer them to Bluehost or others and get an affiliate commission for the referral. And if something happens, they can get mad at Bluehost and not you.

If you are mainly serving clients in the UK, you should look for a reliable local hosting partner. I have done that in Norway for my clients. I set up and build the websites, and the clients are billed directly for domain and hosting by the hosting company. The clients own the domain and website and can kick me out anytime if they are not happy.

Good advice.
Thanks
Paul

I want to know too.

I don't believe you're allowed to host anyone's sites within WA except your own.
However you can have guest bloggers.
You give them access within your wordpress.
Robert

Thanks Robert

No probs and have a great Tuesday.

Can anybody suggest a good plugin to share new posts to social media?

Also a good sharing plugin that slides in from the side?

Many thanks.

Paul

Social Warfare gets my vote. It's fast and it works.

THE GRAND DECISION.

Thank you for all your comments and advice.

I've just gone for Social Warfare, and at the moment it seems to work really well.

Much appreciated.

Paul

I'm currently using Ultimate Social Media Icons and that is the one that I like the best out of the many that I've tried out.

Thanks Mary Elle.

It's always good to get a recommendation from somebody who has tried different plugins.

Paul

I've now tried 3. Social warfare, sociable, and Ultimate Social Media Icons. If i was going to rank them, it would be Ultimate Social Media Icons first, then sociable, then social warfare, but all are good and get the job done.

Great advice Sybull.

thanks

Social Warfare behaves perfectly on pages and posts.

Many thanks,

It's good to here that it is stable. so many of them seem to flutter about.

Paul

Social Warfare lets me place share buttons anywhere I want.
If I place them at the top and bottom of the post, The slide-in buttons stay out of the way as long as those buttons are visble
When scrollong down, the slide in buttons appears, and it disappears again when the bottom buttons are visible.

And it also lets you set images for social media, with text, so you have some control on what is shares. The ability to set a special verticel pinterest image is great.
And it has a built in 'click to tweet' that can be placed around in the post.

I use the paid version and have a 5-site license.

I use sumome and really like it.
With Grace and Gratitude
Karen

Not one I’ve heard of but I’ll take a look.
Many thanks.

Paul

I hope it works for you. Please let us know if it helps you get your messages out, helps you easily share posts and if it increases your traffic! Good Luck Paul!!

Thanks Jesse. I will.

Kind regards.

Paul

I like Social Warfare plugin. It looks clean and works for me.

Hi Tiffany.

I'll definitely take a look.

Paul

Just found it way down the page when I searched for it. Going to give it a try since that's the one recommended by WA.

Hi Elaine--I was using Sociable but the icons kept floating even though I put the setting not to. Have you had any trouble with that?

No can't say I ever did.
