I've been adding some of my sites keywords to Jaaxy Site Rank, so that I can track how they are performing on a regular basis.

I was curious to see how my site keywords

You can always manually check to see which one is accurate, often the issue is a regional variation, for example Jaaxy only returns results for Google.COM but a member is checking on Google.CO.UK for example.

Thanks Rich - Good point. I'll try the manual check and compare.

No probs. :)

I'm developing several cornerstone (evergreen) content pages for my site.

I want to make them pages so that visitors can view and read them in widescreen with no sidebar

Hey Patrick did you ever get the answer to what you was looking for. If so I love to know what it was!!!!!

Patrick, thanks for posting the question... I appreciate your asking questions that I have had and the answers that you received!

Best Regards,

Bert

Bert - My pleasure. Looks like we are receiving some great responses.

I have more than 70 pages in one site and I use a plugin for this. So they all are in categories and have tags as well. This is what I suggest you to do, a light harmless plugin.

But there are several other options here. You can have posts without the date so this will make them look like any page, and you can put it in the main menu like a page.

One comment - I would not go for wide screen, this is not easy to read, just my thinking. There are statistics which show this is bad.

There is nothing wrong of having ads but you can remove them in other ways. Use Add Inserter plugin for this.

Jovo - These are all great suggestions. I will take a look a the Add Inserter plugin. Thanks for the tip on widescreen.

Is it a certain topic or content you want to bring to attention of the reader? Make a post about the page and link to your page from the post. You don't want to copy/paste, perhaps make a cool teaser featured image on the post and then in your post content, hyperlink to the page with a button or any "featured page" widget. I've been using the SiteOrigin Page Builder and Bundles lately, love them, so easy to use and never glitchy.

Another option for sidebar VS no-sidebar is to select an optional sidebar that is less distracting. Feel free to msg me your website and I'll be more able to help provide my "two cents" to assist your intent.

Ben - Great Suggestion. I never considered this approach. Appreciate the assistance.

It depends on your theme Patrick. Not all themes have the full width option for posts. And yes, it needs to be a post to take advantage of categories. When you're writing your post click on 'Screen Option' top right and see what layout options are available in your chosen theme.

Thanks Marion - I'll have a look.

Yes just copy what is in your page into a post but also read reply below as duplicate content can be frowned upon by search engines but really depends on your reasoning for doing so

Thank you!

Hi Patrick,

You could have the same sort of discussion on a page as is on a post ... but ... you would want to make sure that you don't simply copy and paste the same information on both a page and a post.

Google doesn't care if your info is on a page or a post. Search engines seek out keywords to list your site's content as how relevant it is to their visitor searches.

Should you have similar info on a page and a post, you might want to make sure you link each of these together so readers will know there is more information offered.

Hope this helps you.

Thank Trish! Excellent idea. As always, I appreciate your input.

Getting Started
Updated

I have been hanging around the unanswered tab in the main dashboard area recently.

I have been seeing quite a few posts asking where do I begin or how do I start.

I knew nothing about making websites or hardly a thing about the internet, so I had no choice but to follow the training exact.

That was the correct move and should be everyone's goal when they get here. Follow the training.

As did I,

You begin at the beginning. Become familiar with all there is to know. Start the training and concentrate on that. Answer/reply to posts and comments. The most important thing to keep in mind is to get on a roll and establish your website. Stay with that momentum, don't get lead astray because that is our major concern. Study, study and then study even more. It's hard to build momentum when you lose your focus.
All the best to our entire community and good luck.
Training is number one focus.

Linda

Linda - Excellent reply and exactly how it should be done. Thanks for sharing your get started observations.

I started by clicking every link I could find on the WA site to become familiar with the site. Then I started the certification course level 1, lesson 1.

Glen - Excellent approach. Size up the area then go in for the kill.

Yep, the green 'Start here' button :)

That's the place. Thank you!

I guess I clicked on the "Get Started Here" button.

Usiba - Yes the most obvious place. Thank you my friend.

Hit the green button and start working through the lessons taking action as you go.
If you get stuck - then ask before moving to the next lesson. :-)

John - Yes it seems to be very clear. It would seem some new members are slightly confused.

Fortunately I saw the "Get Started Here" button first and went straight into it. after a bit I started looking around and found a lot more information. all good fun and mind blowing!!

I got comfortable and started looking around like you did. Read lots of member comments and was amazed at what I didn't know. It's still fun and mind blowing.

I clicked on "Get Started Here" and started right there!

That's What I did. It amazes me how some new members are completely lost when they first start out. I guess it's the thrill of being here.

My screen print explains my thinking when I first started...

Trish - Very cool. A screen capture of when it all started. Seven days is a lot of pressure. I was a free member for about a day before I signed up. Where that red arrow is pointing is where it all began for me. One of the best decisions I ever made.

I took the basic Training course!

Thanks Mike! Good starting place.

Anyone have any experience or solutions with Mail Chimp popup problems?

I opened my Mail Chimp account today and setup a subscriber popup form.

It was a bre

Stergios - I deleted cache in both Word Press and Chrome as you suggested. Tested the popup and it works great now. Thanks for helping out.

That issue sounds like theme not support or some conflict between mailchimp, theme or plugins each other.
The issue could be simple cache issue. Did you clear your browser cache after installing mailchimp?
I could help more if I had a closer look.

I just competed certification course three. I decided to skip over applying for the various affiliate membership approvals because my site has no traffic and is not completed

Patrick, I'm not sure how many pages/posts you have, but I wouldn't necessarily let that stop you. I'm connected with Share-a-Sale, Amazon Associates, and awaiting feedback from Clickbank. I was approved for Share-A-Sale (Along with 3 merchants within the program) and Amazon Associates with very little content and virtually no traffic. I know that Amazon will suspend you if you aren't producing results within 6 months but you can reapply. The only one I would wait to sign up for is Commission Junction. They are very particular and want to make sure you are serious about your website efforts before they approve. Other than that, I say start looking for affiliates early on because it will help you with your content writing and recommendations/reviews.

Chad - Great comments. I really had not taken this view when i was taking the lessons. So I need to reconsider.

I spent a lot of time looking at several affiliate networks and researched their offerings.

I'm in the finance niche and all of the products I'd like to promote are on networks like CJ, but when you read their terms of service and approval process, it can give one pause.

ShareASale and Clinkbank really don't have anything of substance that I feel comfortable promoting on my site. I think your suggestion about Amazon is the way to go. So I'm headed off there to see if I can find products to promote like financial books or software like Quicken etc.

Thanks,
Patrick

I'm new and going through the courses it has helped me to better understand not the just to put up a website but to really know what your really interested in to make your websites more enjoyable. Along with belonging to a community of people of all walks of lives.

Best wishes
Doris

Hi Doris - I appreciate your input. I think I know what I'm interested in and what will make my website more enjoyable for my visitors, I just want to find products that I can feel comfortable promoting.

I think my trouble is I'm being too selective and I should be more concerned about just learning the process and forget about being
suspended for lack of sales. Time and hard work will take care of the rest.

Thanks for helping me out

Patrick

Patrick, in addition to what Triblu suggests, you might want to take a look at ShareASale...I have gone with them and have let it sit there while I finish all I want to happen with my website...but ultimately it's YOUR choice...

Arthur - Thanks for the ShareASale suggestion. I will go take a look. I had checked out Clickbank, but my niche is Finance and I really couldn't find anything to promote. Thanks again.

Please take lessons its a long term investment. If you go deep inside the lessons you will realize that WA is not an overnight get rich scheme.

Cheers all the best

Hi Martin - I'm definitely working through all the lessons, I'm just not signing up for any affiliate networks. I appreciate your input.

All the best

Hey Patrick,

I agree with you in NOT applying for, say, Amazon ... however, you could EASILY apply for Clickbank and let that account sit until you are ready with content.

The reason Kyle makes the suggestions in his training that he does, is to get you in a habit of following through with the training.

Skipping lessons only hurts yourself as no one will come to you and scold you or anything.

Hi Trish - Good point about about Clickbank. Thanks for responding.
