Not Knowing is Driving Me BONKERS

Staying to the point is one of my worst attributes.

I have a tendency to waffle, talk all around the houses, and delay the inevitable.

I would like to say that this time THIS BLOG POST will be different.

But let’s face facts, it’s me.

My mind is a vortex of useless information and typically does what it wants.

That being said, I’m glad we’re online, because we have EDITING.

I am very much a “blurt out what’s on your mind type of person and think about the consequences later”.

Oh yes, my mouth definitely ALWAYS engages before my brain.

Dammit…

I’ve done it again.

I’m waffling.

Get to the point Partha.

Here’s the Point (Sort Of)

So, I decided a few months back to put all my energies into one of the websites I have created here during my time at Wealthy Affiliate.

I have a few sites, plus I still even get traffic and sales from articles and sites that I created over a decade ago (this is proof that organic traffic is “The Bomb”).

However, it was time to remove “Shiny Object Syndrome” from my life and concentrate on one sole project.

The website in question was a few months old, but lacked any content - one article to be precise.

However, as of September 2nd 2020, this was my new “baby”.

I thought to myself, “Let’s concentrate on writing and publishing content, obtaining comments from within the community, and… well… nothing else.

I love an experiment, so let’s see what happens.

Now, I know from personal experience, and from what the many “experts” say, if you are looking at blogging and SEO and NOTHING ELSE, this takes time.

No-one ever tells you how much time, do they?

So, let me add some perspective.

The following is “an average”, as I have seen it.

There are NO exact figures, and results may and probably will vary for different people.

I typically know that if I am just writing and publishing and doing NOTHING ELSE, not to expect any traffic (apart from my WA commenters) for at least 3 months.

You then typically start receiving dribs and drabs in terms of visitors for the following few months, but nothing to write home about.

In most cases, you’ll have to wait until about the 6-8 month mark to hit the 1,000 visitors a month stage.

REMEMBER, I’m talking about writing content, publishing, and doing NOTHING ELSE.

Just waiting for good old Google, and the somewhat sad and repugnant relatives, Bing and Yahoo, to get their act together.

Then, USUALLY something amazing happens at around month 10 (but only if you have been REGULARLY publishing content for the previous 9 months).

Your traffic seems to double month-on-month until you hit another barrier around month 14.

I’m talking - 3,000 a month, then 6,000 a month, 12,000 a month, 24,000 a month.

Somebody stop me!!!

Oh yeah, thanks for the reminder Google…

Back to dribs and drabs again for a few months.

Until things explode again at month 18.

REMEMBER, this ONLY HAPPENS if you continue creating and publishing content regularly.

As I say, results can and will vary.

This will depend on factors such as:

  • Niche
  • Competitiveness of the niche
  • Content frequency
  • Content quality
  • Content type and intent (informational, promotional, commercial)

(oh yeah, and this will only happen if your keyword research is ON-POINT).

RELATED====>Partha’s Potion - This is How I Do Keyword Research

However, please be aware once more that there are so many variables when it comes to ranking, traffic, sales, etc.

There is no one-size-fits-all.

That being said, I know that many of us like to see “actual” figures, so the above is about as near as I can explain.

I Really Will Get to the Point This Time

So, I’ve been on a bit of a writing and publishing frenzy as of late.

In fact, due to my publishing frequency I am FAR ahead of the figures I’ve quoted above (this is what a difference publishing MORE FREQUENTLY will do).

I managed to hit 90 articles at the end of last year (September to December).

I have now written and published EVERY SINGLE DAY in 2021.

Traffic was rising, regular sales were coming in.

I actually started the year wanting to do one of my 30-day challenges, i.e. 30 articles in 30 days.

However, it’s kinda taken off from there.

I’m going to do 100 articles in 100 days.

Take a couple of days break, rest and refresh, and then I’ll probably go for another 100 in 100 days.

You know when Kyle talks of his Diamond Traffic Program?

You know when Nathaniel talks about his producing loads of content?

This is kinda what they’re talking about.

No mucking about.

None of this, “I might get 2 articles in this week, then again I might not.”

NO

If you want BIG success then you need to go BIG.

Obviously, people have differing responsibilities, differing levels of skill, commitments, intelligence, time, drive, focus, enthusiasm, etc.

But for me it’s always a case of GO BIG OR GO HOME.

Sorry, I apologise.

Anyway, what the hell was I talking about?

Oh yeah.

Oops, I Lied

Okay, I said that I have been writing, publishing, and getting comments and doing nothing else, but I may have told a little white lie.

But honestly, it’s the teeniest-tiniest lie.

I also installed the Sassy Social plugin on my site and registered accounts with 6 of the social media sites.

Three of these, well nothing.

But the “Big 3”, namely Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest is a little bit different.

I have basically done nothing but SPAM these sites once a day with my articles.

I write, I publish, and then I share my article to the social media sites.

My social media game is, well not to put too fine a point on it, absolute tosh!

In fact, I have one Pinterest board with about 160+ pins on it. No order, no thought, no clue.

Roy and Lisa would be ever so disappointed in me.

Anyhow, somehow, some way, I seem to be getting followers, likes, comments, shares, traffic etc. on social media.

I don’t really engage or interact though.

I don’t share anyone else’s stuff, I simply share my own stuff once a day, every single day.

Basically, I am the worst proponent of social media that ever lived.

In effect, I am UNsocial media.

No Stats

Now, while being on this writing and publishing frenzy I thought to myself, “I wonder if I can go without checking any stats for a while?”

You know how we all LOVE to check Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and our Affiliate merchant accounts about 9,823 times a day.

Yup, I was one of them

Well, come on, I was already getting regular traffic and regular sales.

My website was blossoming well before my stated dates and figures.

I am quite clearly doing something right.

So, there’s nothing wrong with a little “looksy” every 32 minutes, is there?

That being said, I decided a few weeks back not to check any stats until the first 100 days of the year was over.

April 10th 2021 to be precise.

I will have written and published 100 articles this year by then.

My site will have 190 articles in total (my aim is to hit the 400-mark by the end of the year).

Plus, I would be at the beginning of month 8.

So, just before things start to go Craaaaaazzzzyyyy in terms of traffic.

But remember, I’m already ahead of schedule in terms of traffic and sales… Way ahead.

So, I’ll just wait,

I can go another month without checking my traffic and sales stats.

Then something a little weird happened.

On Tuesday 16th March 2021, I started to get more followers from Twitter.

Likes, shares, and comments also started to pour in.

I did my usual thing that day.

Wrote an article, published it, shared it on social media.

Now I’m ready for the next day.

I had around 400 Twitter followers, gained over the last 6 months from simply “spamming” my once a day article share.

Yesterday, it started.

A follow here and a follow there.

A like, a comment, a share.

After about 30 minutes or so, I thought to myself, “this is a bit weird”.

The followers, likes, shares, comments kept coming.

I made sure NOT to check stats, but I did start checking the profiles of my new Twitter followers and deciding whether or not to follow back or ignore.

And they mostly appeared to be people in the same niche - win.

Hmmm, oh look, Luke has been on Twitter for 3 years and has 8,858 followers - “FOLLOW”.

Oh My Geeeee, Lucy has been on Twitter for 7 years and has 242,500 followers - “HUGE FOLLOW WITH BELLS ON TOP”.

Damn, Natalie, oooh, Hello Natalie, “How You Doin?” You’re Pretty, yeah just ignore my wife, 543,000 followers, WOOOAAAAAHHHHHH...

And this continued.

At the time of writing (I wrote this last night btw) a further 358 people have followed me on Twitter (I don’t have notifications to my phone for the other social networks, so who knows what’s going on there).

That is 358 people who have followed me in the space of 80 minutes.

Well, something’s going on.

I was receiving notifications for shares, likes, comments.

I briefly glimpsed through tear-stained eyes of joy and caught the number 4 - 1 - 7 -2.

I have no idea what order these numbers were in.

Have I miraculously produced a piece of content that’s gone viral?

But, I promised myself, no checking stats until April 10th 2021.

Just keep writing, keep publishing, keep sharing, keep doing your thing.

I have basically almost doubled my Twitter followers of the previous 6 months in the space of 80 minutes.

I have no idea how many additional likes and shares I have, or on how many of my articles.

I have decided to turn ALL notifications off on my phone.

Otherwise, it will drive me BONKERS (cue Dizzee Rascal).

I'll Share My Results

I will definitely write a WA blog post on the results of my 100 articles in 100 days.

But that doesn’t end for a few weeks yet.

Until then, all my traffic stats, sales stats, etc. are turned off.

I am NOT checking them.

I do love a test, a challenge, be it physical, mental, or emotional.

Well this has now turned into a completely different type of challenge.

DO NOT CHECK YOUR STATS.

You can do this.

Let’s just say that this website after 6 months was already at the 10-11 month stage in terms of traffic and sales.

But, on Tuesday 16th March something exploded on social media.

The Results - I know about as much as you do.

Not a Clue.

I will NOT check ANY stats until April 10th 2021.

I will for once show some restraint and self-control.

But I’m excited to see what I’ll find.

I can’t wait.

What about you?

Are you looking forward to the results, or is it just me?

Thanks for reading

Partha

Ha, Ha! I would definitely go bonkers too not knowing. What a great challenge you put up for yourself. I might as well go home with my two blogposts a week after reading your post .Lol or I might be inspired by you to do the same. I have a feeling your stats will be amazing!

Whew! That writing every day has loaded up your head with so many words you had to send us some of them. I think every day is a great plan if you can do it. I was publishing on two different websites every other day for 9 months, and am now done to one website where I publish every Wednesday and every Sunday. More would be better, but have not cut out all those other things in my life. Guess I'll just lope along at the speed I'm going. I do hope your "experiment" pays off for you big-time.

Hey Fran,

Oh come on, you've been there, seen it, done it, got the t-shirt, LOL.

You know yourself that it's tough to keep to this type of schedule going in the long-term.

I think, as we're still in lockdown here in London, many of my "usual distractions" are not getting in the way.

But, I'm sure they will again very soon.

To be honest, I just want to get to a set amount of content by the end of the year.

Then in 2022, I will drop to probably no more than a couple of articles a week, plus updating one or two older articles... and perhaps a new project as well.

I think for now I seem to have created an automatic habit, so I may as well go with it for as long as I'm able.

Who knows when the writing and publishing streak will end, LOL.

I mentioned in the comments on the related post I have linked to above that the great marketing genius, Seth Godin, is up to about 7 years of writing and publishing every single day to his blog.

Now that takes some doing.

Partha

Yes! I am looking forward to the results of your 100 days!

What ever do you write about every day? And how long does it take you to write one article?

Being new, I'm just hoping to get one article written every week. The research takes most my time but I enjoy it. But an article every day? It sounds impossible! lol

Good job, btw
Lynn

Oh Lynn,

What you doing to me - I could write an entire article in reply to this, LOL.

If I have you're blessing, I may actually answer this question Fully, quoting you, in an article next week.

Research and writing, much the same as anything in life, becomes easier with practice.

I can guarantee that if you keep at it, you'll look back in about 6 months time and wonder what all the fuss was about.

You'll find that one article a week soon becomes two, then three, and it builds from there.

If you thnk about it, by the time you've written 50, 100, 200, 1,000 articles in your niche, you're knowledge of the subject will literally have exploded.

I will say to never compare yourself to others, as this can be disheartening. But the more you do, the better you'll get.

For me, I havea two-pronged approach to writing an article.

I wil already know the subject I am writing about that day.

I set a timer for 45 minutes.

In that 45 minutes I will research, but I MUST have an article title, my subheadings, and introduction written in that time.

As I research, I typically find 4-10 points on the subject matter and note them down.

These are my subheadings.

I don't need to know the ins-and-outs, just a basic concept.

After 45 minutes, I'll take a break for about 15 minutes and walk away from the computer (as it's me this will probably involve eating a huge amount of food and then doing 100 push ups because I feel guilty, LOL).

I'll come back, set a timer for one hour, and then just go for it.

As I say, you'll understand your niche better-and-better the more you write about.

Ideas will pop into your head.

If I know the concept of the article well, I can usually finish writing within that hour.

The article could be 1,500, 2,000, 3,000 words long depending on how well I know the subject matter.

Just to make you feel better, there are days when I have about 50 words written after that hour (it doesn't happen often, but it still happens).

Sometimes the brain just wants to do it's own thing.

A good practice is to actually write without any pressure of publishing.

I journal every morning, but you can actually do the same for your niche.

Get a pen and paper (remember them??), set a timer for 10 minutes, go to Quora, Reddit, or AskThePeople.

Type in your main keyword and see what questions come up.

Hit the timer button and just write.

Write anything, it doesn't have to perfect, it doesn't have to make sense, it doesn't even have to be correct, it doesn't need keywords, just write.

No-one but you is ever going to read it.

If you can't think of anything to write, then write the question down over-and-over again until something clicks.

You do this for a couple of weeks and your mind will be swarming with article ideas and niche-specific knowledge.

Right, I'll shut up now before this does actually become an article, Haha.

Partha

Thanks for the reply, Partha. Everything you said is very helpful! I will try the 10-minute timer thing tomorrow.

And if you decide to write an article about the answer to my question, you have my blessing to quote me if you want. No pressure.

Thanks again for all the helpful advice.

Lynn

I am not one to offer advice to anyone in WA but I am a person of common sense. My observation is that you are a one man Racing car writing content who reaches the finish line before being satisfied. I would offer that analytics would provide answers but that is false because with out observation of same you are growing exponentially on your websites. So writing is not your problem, audience is not your problem, work ethnic is not your problem & money making is not your problem but you seem to answering all those questions with answers by Production. The only thing that I would suggest is Increase all you Goals and start again to master the new mountain & Best of Luck to You but I don't believe you will need it.

Hey Edward,

Your advice is always welcome, plus I totally get what you're saying.

I do indeed check analytics, but probably too often, as I've alluded to.

And, as you quite rightly say, this does provide me a great deal of insight.

I think for the moment though, I have put the blinkers on and solely concentrated on production.

If I'm being completely honest, I lack in other areas, and they probably hold a "fear factor" for me too.

So, it could just be a case of "better the devil you know".

However, your insights here certainly ring true for me.

You're right and well spotted.

I realise there is a vast array of other areas for me to tackle.

So yes, I think I will relook at my goals at the end of these 100 days.

There's still so much to learn for me, and many mountains to start climbing.

Thanks Edward, it's appreciated.

Partha

You are a serious writer Partha. Enjoy your blogs so much

An article a day! Going viral and not checking stats, bloody hell Partha, you are a phenomenal wonderman.

Seriously that is truly outstanding, well done, I can’t wait to read your blog post on April 10th.

Question, how long is each bit of content? Is it a response post?

Anyway well done 👏👏👏👏👏🥂

Hahaha,

Hey Cordelia.

Oh trust me, at times it's all been a bit of a struggle.

Tbh, it almost feels as though it's ingrained as a habit now.

Who knows how long this writing streak will go on.

I do believe that the great man, Seth Godin, is now at over 7 years where he has written and published at least one A DAY to his blog.

As for the posts, looking at it from J & R perspective (best not mention them by name here, LOL).

Last years 90 articles were mainly staples and pillars.

So, for me, the staple posts were around 2,300-2,800 words.

I only had about 5 pillar posts, between 3,500-5,300 words.

36 of last years posts were product reviews, most of which are 2,200-2,500 words.

This years 76 articles (up to and including today) are 22 product reviews at about the same levels as above.

A couple of staples and everything else is response-style posts.

Literally, find a question, and then answer it.

My response posts are generally in the 1,600-1,900 words range.

The blog post I've linked to in the article above guides you through my process of keyword research.

I still use alphabet soup, but also came up with a list of about 50 words that I put before or after my seed keyword, and I see what Google Autosuggest comes up with.

Anyway, thank you Cordelia, always lovely to hear from you.

Partha

Really detailed information, just what I love to read, J&R would be very very impressed, it's what they preach and talk about nearly each and every you tube video.

I'm really inspired by your progress, from any angle you have achieved one helluva success, with or without income, which if it's not coming in already is just a matter of time. Oh yes Mr B you are a serious role model 👌👏
