Allow Me to Blow Your Niche Choosing & Research Mind

Now, before any of you shout at me for not answering my PMs

I CAN’T COPE!!!

Hahahaha!!

In fact, it’s getting to the point where I’m scared to write a blog post, as this typically spawns 72 PMs, 86 letters of hatred, and 1 marriage proposal (NO!!!! OLD FLUFF!!!)

Sorry, I’m spending 20-30 hours a week trying to respond, so I’ve kinda taken a back seat for the last month or two, and not bothered, LOL, sorry, so if you have received a response from me, feel lucky, Haha!!

I will try to get back to everyone, but let’s face facts there are so-called “SEO experts” that would happily charge $200-300 per hour, and probably provide less help and information.

No, you won’t be getting copy and pasted answers from me, or simply be told “follow the training”, or quoting some SEO guide from about 10,000 years ago. I do actually take my time to understand your issues, and then see what I can do to guide you.

Therefore, I have calculated that you lot owe me $1,852,538.

So, if you could kindly send that to my paypal account - hahayomommanotsomuch.com - it would be greatly appreciated.

RIGHT… that’s housekeeping over, so where were we?

OH YES, I was about to Blow Your Mind.

Okay firstly, do as I say, not as I do.

What I mean by this is that I use what I’m about to show you to constantly start new websites.

However, you know yourself that you should STICK TO ONE WEBSITE until you see some semblance of success.

That said, once you kinda know that “your methods” are going to work, it’s much easier to replicate the same process over-and-over again.

So, I’m not adverse to doing what I’m about to show you 4 or 5 times a year.

Find niche, research niche, find 50 keywords, smash out 50 articles double-quick, publish on website, wait.

If I start to see a website take off by about month 4-5, then I put more effort into that website.

This may involve me producing more content, simply creating article templates (as I’ve shown you here), and then hiring a writer to do the work.

Then again, I may just do the following, “Ere, Old Fluff, what you doing? I started another niche website behind your back, but here’s 2,000 keywords, can you write these articles by tomorrow please… and hurry up?”

Okay, let’s get to it.

How to Find a Fantastic Niche

You’ll typically hear that you should be “passionate” about your niche, when it comes to blogging.

I don’t 100% agree with this, although I do believe this very depends on you as an individual.

I think the main reason you are told to stick to something you love and are passionate about is because if you don’t then your motivation and willpower will no doubt start to wane, and this is when you give up.

However, this all comes down to mindset, and how you deal with your own negative thoughts.

This is not something I can teach you (well, actually it is, but it would probably involve writing a book).

Anyway, I know that I can now use this same process on finding niches that I have absolutely no interest in.

To me, it’s the excitement of starting something new and seeing it grow that ignites “passion” in me.

And as I say, I personally don’t have to do any writing, although I do like to do all the research myself.

Right, let’s find a niche.

What I like to do is to go to Google and type

List of Hobbies Wikipedia

Into the Google Search Bar.

And this is what you get.

Impressive, right?

There are different sections pertaining to different hobbies, plus they all also generally have their own Wikipedia page, which you can use to your advantage too.

Okay, let’s have a look through general hobbies.

Now, when I look at potential niches, I do it completely different from most.

Go on, admit it, whenever you have thought about choosing a niche you immediately think MONEY.

Don’t lie to me, you know it’s true.

Your first thought is, “How Can I Make Money From This Niche?”

My mindset is completely different because I KNOW I CAN MAKE MONEY FROM ANY NICHE.

Yes admittedly, my business model may be different to what’s mainly taught at WA, but this also makes it so much easier for me to monetize ANY website.

Okay, niches, niches, niches, here’s one I like the look of

GLASSBLOWING

I know absolutely nothing about glassblowing, I have no INITIAL idea about monetization,

BUT

I know I can find some fantastic keywords, get some great rankings, and receive a huge amount of traffic.

And as long as you can do that, you’re in the money.

Right, now I click over the Glassblowing Wikipedia page and have a read, take some notes, etc.

The Niche Research Stage

Okay, firstly you’ll want to look through the Wikipedia page, especially the Table of Contents.

This could give you ideas for different categories for your niche website, as well as potential keywords to go after.

As an example, Free-Blowing and Mold-Blowing are two things that I’ve never heard of, but they are obviously things that people who practice glassblowing or wish to take it up as a hobby would perhaps already know about.

So, when I do my keyword research on Google, I will definitely be using the phrases “Free-Blowing” and “Mold-Blowing”.

Next, you want to find forums within your niche, which will also help with research.

Simply go to Google and type in

Glassblowing + forums

Here’s the results, so as you can see, lots and lots and lots of glassblowing-related forums.

You could literally spend 30-40 minutes a day reading a few forum threads for a couple of weeks, and have enough content ideas to last you a couple of years.

A Quick Word On Forums and UGC

I just wanted to cover what a forum and user generated content is, and why I think these are easy rankings if found on page one.

Basically, I was asked this question yesterday, so I’ll explain it here.

User Generated Content is exactly what it says, it is a website where all the content is created by users or members.

Sound familiar?

In effect, the Wealthy Affiliate platform is USER GENERATED CONTENT.

So, a website which has been created for the sole purpose of allowing people to hold discussions with each other, ask and answer questions is user generated content.

The most obvious ones that we all know are Quora and Reddit, but also things like facebook groups, twitter and instagram feeds, etc.

However, every single niche on the earth will have a dedicated forum, it doesn’t matter how obscure, you will potentially find a forum around that specific subject.

Now, the reason I believe they are easier to rank above comes down to Search Engine Optimization.

Google will generally rank an article based on how relevant it is to the query typed into the search bar.

But, having your article well optimized around that keyword can potentially boost your rankings even further.

So, this could simply involve having your keyword in your title and the first paragraph.

Using the keyword in one of your subheadings.

Adding relevant images and videos to your article, which have been saved to your desktop USING THE KEYWORD.

Relevant internal and external links, you know the spiel.

Now, most user generated websites are actually high authority websites.

This makes sense, as the majority of them have been around for years, they typically have BILLIONS of discussion threads, and hundreds of thousands (or in the case of Quora and Reddit - millions) of members.

However, even though they are authority websites, the results you find on Google page one HAVE NOT BEEN OPTIMISED AROUND A SPECIFIC KEYWORD.

Therefore, if you write a RELEVANT article around a specific search term and you then OPTIMISE that article, you stand a fantastic chance of ranking above USER GENERATED CONTENT.

Plus, for the 100s of you who have tried my methods now - YOU KNOW THAT IT WORKS.

Back to Niche Research

Funnily enough, while I went onto the google search page for

Glassblowing + forums

I immediately found an EASY TO RANK keyword among the People Also Ask section.

Here it is

What Happens if You Inhale While Glassblowing?

On page one of Google we have

REDDIT

QUORA

STRAIGHT DOPE FORUM

PLUS - there are also two fairly low authority websites on page one - look at this, Domain Authority of 1 ranking on page one for this keyword.

Anyway, back to the forums, use these for your research.

As I’ve mentioned, even just spending 30 minutes a day for two weeks on various glassblowing forums will increase my knowledge immensely.

I’ll take notes, quickly look for keywords if I come up with an idea, etc.

Realistically, in this first couple of weeks I want to learn as much as possible about glassblowing and come up with at least 50 keywords.

Finding Those Keywords

Right, I’m sure many of you are already aware of my methods for finding EASY TO RANK keywords.

My Formula to Rank Number One on Google

Plus, something else I want to get across is that you should be looking for the keywords that other people AREN'T already writing about.

Don’t get me wrong, pretty much every keyword in every niche will have some competition.

But, why would you want to target the same keywords as a website that is 10 years old, has 5,000 articles on it, and has a domain authority in the 90s?

Basically, this is the type of keyword research that MOST people are doing, and then they’re wondering why they're not getting rankings or traffic.

If you think about it - if Google has a choice between ranking two equally well-written articles that are relevant to a specific search term, are they going to rank Mr. 10 years old with 5,000 articles or YOU with your 2-week old website with 4 articles, all with 7,273 affiliate links each?

It’s no contest is it?

This is why you need to find UNDERSERVED TOPICS to write about.

Sod the traffic figures, go on admit it, you’ve NEVER received the amount of traffic to a RANKED article that a keyword tool tells you will.

And this is why I don’t use keyword tools - you’ll only ever really find keywords THAT EVERYONE ELSE HAS ALREADY USED, plus they don’t know how much traffic that keyword gets. They’re guessing based on historical data.

So, I NEVER WORRY about potential traffic for a keyword.

If I go to Google, find phrases and questions via Google Autosuggest, then I KNOW THAT THERE IS TRAFFIC FOR THESE ARTICLES.

Google Autosuggest is simply another way of saying, “Google is suggesting these search terms and phrases because GOOGLE HAS KEPT A RECORD OF PREVIOUS SEARCHES MADE ON THEIR SEARCH ENGINE.

So, if anything comes up in Google autosuggest, NO MATTER HOW WEIRD, there is traffic.

Case in point, I’ve spoken about finding Google Autosuggest keywords for my exercise site, and finding the weirdest of keywords, which then produce 1,000s and 1,000s of monthly visitors.

In fact, some of my best traffic articles are based around peeing or pooping yourself during a certain exercise.

See WEIRD… Plus, you would NEVER find these types of keywords via a keyword tool (because not many people have written about it before).

That’s another point about finding keywords that no-one else targets and finding UNDERSERVED TOPICS - you can guarantee that some very big, high authority websites have come across these keywords, but decided they weren’t worth the hassle BECAUSE A KEYWORD TOOL TELLS THEM THERE IS NO TRAFFIC.

I swoop in,,write the article, and within 3-4 months the article is getting 1,500+ visitors a month.

In your face authority website, I’ve written the article that you deemed “below you” and now I’m ranking, getting traffic, and making money.

REMEMBER

You write an article around ONE keyword

That article will eventually rank for 100s of keywords.

If you target a keyword that no-one else is targeting (found via Google Autosuggest - so REAL queries searched for by REAL people), then you should rank very quickly.

That ONE article is now gaining authority because it is ranked at the top of Google.

The following month Google says, “Oh look, I ranked this article immediately for the main phrase because no-one else is targeting this. Let me now find another 10 relevant keywords within this article and rank it for those 10 searches”.

The following month Google ranks you for another 20 relevant phrases, and so it goes on.

This is how an article increases in traffic month-after-month.

It’s NOT because the ONE keyword you targeted is now receiving more visitors, NO.

It’s because you’re now ranking for more-and-more DIFFERENT BUT RELEVANT keywords for the SAME article.

I have also previously written about how to increase traffic to articles that are already ranking.

How to Get Even More Traffic to Your Already Published Articles

I just want to also give you a really quick example of what happens when you write about underserved topics on an already established website.

So, for the exercise site I have started to focus on topic clusters again, Here’s the blog post I wrote about this:

Allow Me to Blow Your Topic Cluster Mind

Now, I’ve been concentrating on the exercise, bench press, for the current topic cluster.

I already have around 50 articles on the site about bench press, but I’ve found another 24 keywords this week, and have set about writing them.

However, this time I’ve been putting different things into the Google search bar to see what autosuggest comes up with.

Basically, I’ve been typing in bench press and then just two letters afterwards:

Example:

Bench press rs

Bench press ar

Bench Press cu

Bench Press st

I just want to see what autosuggest, well, suggests.

Here’s what I found from typing in

Bench Press st

I like the Bench Press Stuck at 225 query.

So, this means that people have been typing into the Google Search Bar queries relating to their bench press being stuck at 225lbs.

So, the SEARCH INTENT is WHY is their bench press is stuck at this weight and HOW they can burst through this plateau.

So, I set about ANSWERING SEARCHER INTENT in the form of an article.

The article was published at 11.38am on Monday 11th July.

Here it is ALREADY ranking at number 2 on Google.

Additionally, a REDDIT post is ranked at number one, so by my reckoning I shpould overtake this within the next week or two (my article is RELEVANT & OPTIMIZED, Reddit is NOT OPTIMIZED)

Plus, having checked my analytics, this article has received, up until 8am this morning (I have my analytics set to PST, so 8 hours behind the UK), visitors already.

Not only is the article ranking at number 2 for the main search term, in only 44 hours and 22 minutes of actually being live on the internet, the article has received 63 visitors.

Are you starting to see the beauty of targeting UNDERSERVED TOPICS THAT NOT MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE WRITING ABOUT?

Final Thoughts

Okay, that’s part one done with.

In part 2, we’re just going to have a refresher of my keyword research methods.

However, I am going to find 10 glassblowing keywords and SHOW YOU EXACTLY HOW I FOUND THEM AND WHY I KNOW THAT THEY WILL RANK.

Sound Good?

Until then, it’s time for you all to go and find the forums in your niche, spend 30 minutes a day on them for the next 2 weeks, and find yourself 50 EASY TO RANK keywords.

Of course, you can start a completely niche as outlined above, but I urge you not to get overly distracted.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Find one niche, spank the hell outta it with keyword research and articles, eat, sleep, repeat, SHOW ME THE MONEY!!

As I always say, STOP COMPLICATING THIS.

Success in any walk of life is always about LEARNING THE BASICS AND THEN JUST FOLLOWING THOSE (don’t complicate it).

Let me know when you’re ready for part 2 - Glassblowing Keyword Research - and I shall publish.

Shall we give it a week? Just so I can ignore my 101,865 PMs again, LOL.

Thank You For Reading

And, of course, if any of you are doubting Partha's methods, then I can assure you that our first collaborative website, based on a pretty weird niche, is shaping up to hit the 10,000 visitors per month mark by the end of July, at which point it will be 10 months old.

Truly organic traffic - no asking for comments, no links to it on our profiles, etc.

You can't win them all, Diane! You'll just have to stick with the guitar-playing husband you already have! 🎸
I hope he is doing ok with his foot fracture(s)! 😊

That's wonderful about your "pretty weird niche" website!
Frank

Don't feel bad Diane I was turned down too.

Lol, it's all about having long hair for me, and Partha can't compete with Tony on that!

He was told he can finally remove his support boot yesterday, after 5 weeks, so things are improving slowly. Thanks for asking!

That's wonderful news! It's a great feeling when the walking boot finally comes off. 😊

I broke the 5th metatarsal in my left foot many years ago when I was a medical student, so I know it's no fun. They put me in the morgue to watch autopsies and read pathology slides until I could keep up during patient rounds.

wow that's amazing - congrats!

Sounds gruesome Frank. Hanging out with the dead would require some form of libation for me!

Hey, Steven

It's all part of the educational experience so we can better care for the living! 😊

A little libation now and again is cool. 🍻 🍺

Hi this is maybe a stupid question but will you include affiliate links on the articles?

Okay, this is where a "slight change of mindset" needs to come in.

Sure, the initial purpose of building a niche website is to "Make Money Online".

However, when you focus solely on this purpose it can become obvious to your audience, and this is usually very off-putting.

Think about how you've felt in the past when you've gone into a shop and you're suddenly hounded by a pushy salesperson.

This is the same as "pushing" affiliate links on a website.

So realistically, the "mindset change" needs to be

"I am going to create a website that I will eventually build up to be the most helpful resource on the topic of XXXXX" (XXXX is your niche)

Therefore, you would say that the MAJORITY of your content is focused on SPECIFIC PROBLEMS & ISSUES that people in your niche face.

And the MAJORITY of your content is solely based around "answering" these queries WITHOUT trying to sell anything.

Essentially, you're building up trust, and getting to be known as someone who is really, really, really helpful.

Going back to the "shop analogy" again, have you ever purchased something that you didn't actually need or want, but simply because the sales assistant was the nicest, most helpful, and loveliest person you've met?

Basic human psychology, we tend to buy things from people we like and trust.

I wouldn't want to put an exact number on it, but potentially 70-80% of your content is purely informational and helpful.

So, as an example, looking at your current "niche" that you created before you came to WA, some of your articles would cover things like:

Why Have I Lost Weight But My Belly's Got Bigger?

Should I Do Cardio or Weights if I've Only Got 20 Minutes to Work Out?

Why Does My Lower Back Hurt When I Do Planks?

So, purely informational and helpful.

Your "affiliate links" are best placed on a blog post that is a review of a product or service.

So, let's stick with the Working Out theme.

A famous influencer has a product solely based on "How to Get 6-Pack Abs"

It has videos, ebooks, charts, calorie counters, etc.

And they offer an affiliate program.

You write your review and you include your affiliate links in set places within your review.

Your review covers

What the Product is
Who's the Product by
What Do You Get With the Product
Features & Benefits of the Product
Pros & Cons of The Product
What You Liked
What You Didn't Like
Your Overall "Rating" of the Product (Yes I recommend, No, I don't recommend, and Here's Why)
Conclusion

So, at the end of every section you could have some text inclusive of your affiliate link.

"Get Started With Debra's 30-Day 6-Packs Abs Program Today"

(The above is a very basic outline by the way).

Then as an example, in your article about

Why Does My Lower Back Hurt When I Do Planks?

You could LINK to your PRODUCT REVIEW

"Now, that I've sorted out your lower back issues from planks, no doubt you'd love shredded and rock-hard abs. So, take this opportunity to check out my personal review of Debra's 30-Day 6-Packs Abs Program"

Essentially, all your visitors to your "purely informational" articles can be "steered" towards your product reviews.

This way, you are still being HELPFUL, and not coming across as a "pushy salesperson".

Make sense?

OMG I died 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 old fluff? Marriage? When’s the nuptials? 😂🤣😂🤣🤣 I couldn’t even get to reading the article you posted before busting my gut! That was hilarious!

Why am I excreting fluids when I read this? This is revolutionary, that's why. Thanks, Partha, I cannot begin to tell you how useful your information and your methods are. I will not try, as you have enough people blowing up your skirt as it is.

Your ability to distill it down into simple language that even I can understand is a skill.

I could take every article you have written and put them into a book and I am sure with Mel's help I could be an Amazon bestseller faster than Google would rank me.

Partha the maverick, and why you need to listen.

Alex

🤯 as always Prince Partha! I love the way you breakdown everything so beautifully and simply! Always to the point and spoken so nicely. 🥸🤪

It really is about keeping things simple stupid! Over complicating and overthinking is the root of all evil!!

Yup. Digging into the nitty gritty of research and providing awesome content around it...

You're awesome for sharing this info with everyone here in the community. Just more and more lil "gold nuggets" and proof in the pudding. 😎

Keep on keeping on, I've definitely been doing similar things with my sites and yeah, growing and growing and growing!

I feel like most folks just don't have the patience for how "long" and how much "time" it takes to get ranked in Google with valuable and truly helpful content...

But we have to keep in mind that most businesses don't start taking off until the 5 year mark, I'm talking brick and mortar, bars, mom and pop shops, etc...

So compare 5 years to the 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or even a year until you start really seeing the numbers roll in...

It's a no brainer 😊

Love this business! 👍
